Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

i'd always thought caulfield race track ticked quite a few boxes, but i wasn't aware the redevelopment was going to be this big.

i presume that tall buildings inside the track will have harsh height restrictions, so administrative facilites might need to be on the outside periphery of the track

and finally, the time to move in might be too many years out. it's a huge development.

i wonder how much consideration the club had to this option?

Only just saw it mate.

And Morrison's clearly intent on killing the economy. Since the Libs took over in 2013, they doubled all national debt since Federation (since Federation!) in 6 years, in strong economic conditions. But you'd never know it because Costello runs Channel 9 and The Age, Murdoch still has the largest circulation of newspapers and Sky News, the ABC has been gutted (turning into the Government's mouthpiece as Tony Abbott said they should be), Channel 10 have Joe Hilderbrand (need I say more) and 7 West Media may as well be the official mouthpiece of Gladys' State Government.

There's multiple instances where countries have defaulted on loans and the CCP have stepped in (see Sri Lanka), which is why Andrew Robb's deal for the Darwin Port to his new Chinese company that he sat on the board of was so traitorous.

But in terms of our club, in the short to medium term (the next decade), we'll survive because there's money at stake and the AFL is a multi billion dollar business. But in the long term... unless we start winning, I don't think we'll survive.

Taking CCP money entails political compromises. It means we throw Taiwan under the bus. Before we do that, we might to want consider if there are any other democracies of 20-odd million in Asia that we might want to preserve...

We are Melbourne, our home is in the MCG precinct and we shouldn't compromise because the decision will impact our club for the next 50+ years.

The thing that will impact our club for the next 50+ years is regularly playing finals and winning Flags. The rest does not matter. It does not seem to have hurt Hawthorn training at Waverley. They have a large membership and lots of GF wins from there. It's the GF wins that brings members and money not the training ground geography.

For the project to be on scope, rather than on time, it needs to be in the MCG precinct, as per the Facilities working group.

Why not demolish AMMI park and get the Storm and Rebels to play at "Mickey Mouse" stadium and totally rebuild a facility for the MFC. Would be an ideal location with a bridge over the railway lines to the "G".

Haha, I really don't like my previous post. The debt stuff is nonsense. Sure, the Fed Gov has issued more debt than Labor did, but they spent way more money than Rudd/Gillard/Rudd did and since the AOFM (Treasury) chooses to issue debt after the spending has occurred in order to provide corporate welfare to financial institutions and secondary market players, the debt has increased, but there is no burden. There is no need to issue debt at all since QE has killed the overnight market and placed downward pressure on IRs. I'd argue it never needs to issue debt again - the short term IR is the anchor for all commercial IRs in the economy. They should merely anchor off a ZIRP.

The RBA has also bought up billions and billions of state and territory debt since March last year. Its entire $200 billion JobKeeper spend was then offered to be converted to bonds to market players, and then the RBA repurchased these bonds in the secondary market. In other words, it was issued to banks for a quick gain and then swallowed back up. Now it sits on the RBA balance sheet and when it matures, it is transferred back to the Treasury as a dividend. It's not a debt like a household debt.

There is literally no reason to take CCP money. It's dumb and based in a neoliberal lie that we need DFI. Dumb move by the Napthine and Andrews Governments.

I could list 100 reasons why not but I won't waste yours or my time.
From everything I hear the Gosch's paddock area of the AAMI Park precinct is a viable option that's being explored.

Our new president has close links with govt, VicSport, Tennis Australia and the Tennis Centre Upgrade committee. If only she could convince the govt to include elite indoor training facilities in the next stage 3 upgrade for use by the worlds best tennis players in December/January and MFC the rest of the year. And surely there is a potential social club venue already existing in the tennis complex somewhere that could be commandeered for MFC in season. The tennis centre is under utilised for most of the year. That would give us admin in the Southern Stand, elite gym/training faculties across the rail tracks and a social club inside the Melbourne Tennis Complex and our training ground at Gosch’s across Swan Street. And I still think we should demand access to train on the MCG once a week during the season. At the end of the day the Tennis Centre is a huge under utilised asset, it is in our precinct, surely we could work something out with the govt.

I really don't understand the obsession the MFC has with having to be within cooee of the MCG.

As you have highlighted on many occasions OD, all avenues close by have either been taken (Westpac centre) and/or are not economically viable or likely in an access/ pre existing community space / public reserve sense.

Personally I feel like we’ve missed the boat on so many MCG precinct options that being in that area is now seen as a luxury to me. If it happens then great but I don’t think it’s something that should be an absolute requirement.

I do think we should be within a close-ish distance from the city but greater Melbourne exists into the outer suburbs. So inner suburbs such as St Kilda, Elwood, Caulfield etc should definitely be on the cards. Hopefully Roffey and he connections gets the job done, god knows we’ve been waiting long enough.

No mention of a football oval or anything football related in that article.  Appears as if they are looking to cater for almost every recreational pastime bar footy.

For The board and a substantial number of members the G is set in concrete and will considers nothing else RN.

And so we wait for the miracle to happen.

The fact that Collingwood is in our territory pisses me off and I am sure it pisses off alot of you as well. MCG is or home and further away than the Westpac Centre is basically handing the keys to them.

Just make Jolimont happen. Tell the Yarra Park snobs to sod off.

Just seeing that Carlton has made such a big thing about Ikon Park becoming an elite standard facility for their womens team has got me thinking about whether that should be a carrot that we're pushing with the new location. Make the ground not only the training venue for the men's team but have a section dedicated to the women's team and make the facilities of a good enough standard to host matches there rather than as well as at Casey.

EDIT: I think it's a mistake to pull away from Casey too much given the positive inroads we have made in recent years, they should play a mix of home matches there and potentially at the new digs.

As i have been saying for years, the tennis centre should have been at docklands, or Albert park.

A walk across the park to celebrate at Jolimont after a win at the MCG would be awesome! Anyone know how the negotiations for the below are going?

Sadly, I believe a passionte group of Jolimont locals who use the parklands were powerful enough to cease the feasability test on this one in 2019.

There was also issues re: the rail line.

Can you confirm Jolimont has been ruled out? If not, surely this is the best place for an MFC home.

Can confirm, although there are options nearby.

I’m quite partial to the Caulfield Racecourse idea, but whichever option we go for, it has to be an actual legitimate option that we proceed with in earnest and haste, not another bloody non-starter.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
