i have previously asked about Port Melbourne and am encouraged by the detail others here have provided.Docklands is already identified as an expansion zone and it may be that there will be some openings. I note that There is a closed Uber site on one map and that could be just the first closed site.

The MCFC has some powerful branding and image features which i a model sure you would recognise. We have a lot to offer an adventurous partner.

Under these criteria,  I think people will start to go out and socialise once again,  like they did in the 60's and 70's. 

The idea of building mega wealth,  IMO is over,  and the middle-class will shrink back to where it once was.

I think we are witnessing the end stage of capitalism as its been since the late 80's...  under the auspices of the likes of Rupert,  Thatcher,  Reagan,  and even Keating.

 

Greed has its own cost,  and it will take its toll.

Yes I know it was a bludge and that there was corruption.  I worked my life in construction,  and with the ASC&J and BWIU, which turned into the CFMEU.  Mega unions to counter Multi National companies power.

We used the equivalent of waxed baking paper in the toilets,  sometimes you would find news-paper to use,  whilst in the offices they had toilet rolls.

This happened, and the push of the conservative side of world politics started to grow and rebound again in the late 80's,  and continued its rebirth,  we ended up with outsourcing our telephone inquiries to Asia & India,  our manufacturing sector to Sth Korea, then onto China.

We closed suburban bank outlets, etc etc, minimising services and maximizing margins...  for who?  for the shareholders , the few...  at the expense of the people, the community.

 

This all led to a more greedy populous, who was more afraid of losing their gains, than they do their fellow Australians.  Fences went up from a 1.7Mtr fence to a 2.4Mtr fence,  and high front fences with spikes, and outdoor security cameras.

Even gated communities...   reminds me of the Mcc.

 

This is where our so called advancements have delivered us to,  the direction we've all accepted.  And its been the wrong way.  this is the Capitalists way. 

I am Social democrat/small c capitalist.   This fitted well in our community, in the late 60's and the 70's,  thru to the late 80's.

 

We have lost our way, and we area about to pay for this.

It was a going concern until that greed and selfishness that grew into our community, stopped us thinking about who's hands built the cars we were buying. 

Mostly females and other young families,  trying to buy a home and have a family, bought cheap smaller Asian cars.   Homes were becoming more expensive.

 

The Asian companies undercut our own car industry,  with our hard won higher wages and conditions, and started to take the market share.  

Thru robotics and higher technology, they grabbed our market and ran away with it,  selling more and more imports into our nation. 

Then the small car concept for females and families,  morphed into large vehicle markets and imported 4wheel drives.

 

Abbott called out GM about its future plans,  after the Liberal federal government had already announced it would not continue to subsidise our local car manufacturing sector.

Abbot sensed with the lack of subsidies, that Holden would follow Fords announcement to leave Australian manufacturing. 

Abbott was happy with GM's announcement to leave,  and basically said to Australia,  "I told you so".

 

BUT,  more to follow.

With Ford and Holden's commitment to leave Australian manufacturing of cars,  Toyota no longer had any reason to stay manufacturing in Australia,  so they followed with their intent to leave, and to Import their cars into Australia.

Great business this, creating more exporting of Australian revenues to Asia.  And more expensive imports coming in.

At the expence of local jobs.

Fantastic balance sheet by the liberals.   

 

They sold out Australian workers, who use their hands to build things, Australian things. 

And... the liberals sold out Australia's World Way 2 veterans,  who came home and went on to build family businesses, only to have them undercut and run out of business by cheap subsidised imports.

Australian Power Steering to name just one.   A fantastic man who built a great Australian business, and who looked after his workforce like they were family.  Undercut after he retired and left his sons in-charge.

 

This story is repeated over and over again.

 

The Liberals sold out my Uncle,  in all these ideals of theirs. 

My Uncle risked his life, paddling a kayak across Sth East-Asia,  under cover of dark,  to help bring the Japanese invaders to their knees.

They undercut my WW2 veteran father,  who fought in the Jungles of New Guinea,  who had a large chunk cut away from his back, by Artillery shrapnel. 

He who worked in the Construction industry,  and got me started there.

 

Real Australians.   Who built what was an Egalitarian Australia. 

 

It has all been pulled apart,  by the greed of the current Big 'C' Capitalism. 

 

Homes are too expensive, and should not be an investment, nor a commodity.   They should just be a home.   Negative gearing is the work of the dark side..

MFM   Glory days of old. 

Dees were winning plenty of flags, The average supporter had sub standard facilities, women were not allowed to participate in the game. Thugs and bash artists ruled suburban grounds. TV replays only showed the last quarter of games which rarely featured Melbourne anyway.  The Queen was adored, even came to a game at Arctic park, women were in the kitchen, domestic violence was rampant, migrants copped abuse. Oh the glory of it all. You need to speak with some of our wonderful young people and young demon supporters to get some optimism. i am sure it would do you good.

Not sure why having the MCG close by is an issue? There are as there are 3 other tenants also using this as their home ground ..  Sure we have history but we can’t train on it.

I think it's more to do with the fact that we were born out of the MCC. We are not tied to any one suburb like all other clubs, we are effectively the MCGFC.

But i agree, if we aren't able to train on it, there's little point besides the romanticism to keep us within a stones throw of the G.

Hello fellow travellers.

Had to spend a couple of days in the city while friend attended funeral and I had a small plaster repair job to attend to.

Boral Nth Melb depot is closed due to some rail project and the only place with stock of 90cm Cove cornice within reasonable proximity was the head office in Port Melbourne. They were not used to n

handling the quantity i required but were able to stifle their humour long enough to obtain the single stick I needed.

I did use the opportunity to cruise around "The Port" and found an amazing space. If you haven't been down there get down andhave a look around. The pPort ground is a compact ground surrounded by buildings and doesn't have a lot of options 

BUT

There a a few very large sites including an aircraft sized hanger for lease. There's still plenty os space with established large businesses and a lot of smaller industrial sites. Melbourne university and Melbourne Grammar have sites including the Edwin Flack running track. The HWT overlooks the old GMH testing grounds which has prttye impressive banks and sme apparent lighting. Looks like plenty of room for development.For balance the CFMEU office is strategically located and they advertise at the Port ground.

The government wantts to open up this area and a boutique community stadium and entertainment venue would fit very nicely amongst the residential and business park sectors.

If MFC isn't looking at This area of Melbourne they should be alerted to its potential. If there are any demonland reader she with any influence at Board level please get them to have a god hard look. 

I would be interested in comments from people like Nev who has good corporate judgement and even the Martian who seems to have local knowledge, but please get down and have a look. It might not be the MCG but its closer than Casey with historic links to the city.

The country and state are going into massive debt to get through Co-vid, I'm sure giving AFL clubs large sums of cash for training facilities is extreme low on their priority list.  Unless of course your are Geelong/Hawthorn or Collingwood.  Giving Melbourne money won't win anybody an election or even a seat at Federal or State level and that is all it is about.

That entire Fishermen's Bend area is all under control of the Government and big developers. I've always thought we could merge with Melbourne Grammar who surely can't use their facility much during school hours but carving out a chunk of the development otherwise would be very hard to do. 

There's all sorts of stuff available online if you've got the skills to comb through what is and isn't locked in.

But they want shovel ready,  as the first-in,  first-served.

 

IF.... we had already had things simmering on the back-burner with plans drawn up,  we would be right in the box seat.

Hey it's not that much of a project brief unless there is no plans for an alternative site .

Detail of our status, potential , relationships do not alter if we are looking at Goschs ,MCG railway or Casey

obviously site acquisition would require research and I am sure the govt has already comprehensive reports of anticipated populations etc.

with an assurance of established partners these projects can be produced.

I think we would have the partners to help... but we should have already had been meeting,  to workout the requirements and layouts of buildings for  Admin;  Footy dept;  Training and Medical rooms;  Board room;  Function rooms and cafe/kitchen amenity.

 

The requirements of what the club would need now,  and how they could be rearranged for different sites. prior to final decisions on a location.

That would have been a shortcut to being almost shovel ready,  and the Pre Design plans and engineering concepts.

 

The thing is,  I don't think we've done anything more than just chatting about,  and possibly looked at Yarra Park north,  and may have had some concept sketches drawn,  that would be my guess.

I feel that the club thinks its too far off, and never really gets serious about it.

 

Port wold work but only n competition with Casey fields. which we already have.  Unless we want to undo our alignment which ci think would e another back step as we are so far down the path with them now. 

We went to Casey because its a whole region of new growth, and we do need that.

We have to have our presence at Godsch's;..    And we certainly can fit two ovals on that space,  if we send the rectangular stadium up the street,  or across the road to the Clay tennis court site, with minor modifications to fit the Storm's playing surface over there.

We are Mad,  if we do not snap up Gosch's for ourselves,  and it will, (with 2 ovals) leave eddies single oval venture in our wake.

It gives us Prominence,  Exposure from Rail and from Freeway and Punt Rd;  it gives us the easiest access to our Hub. Via these same transport essentials,  and and easy access to the Mcg.

It will help us to regrow our supporter base from the exposure and ease of attendance. and also for the same reasons will give us some cash flow from attendances,  and to our clubs store front.

 

We are already working-out on the best piece of real estate to suit us,  and we don't seem to realise its potential;  because it seems no-one can visualise the concept and its structures.

And also some existing supporters just have never adopted the idea of Casey.  I think there is a certain snobbery with this,  and also a lazy reluctance to being prepared to travel, to our 2nds side.

These types just don't want anything to change at all.   Even if we die because of it, after they pass.
