Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Social Clubs still work for all sorts of ethnic goups, look at the Venuto Club Bulleen. Successful venues are far removed from the old image of boozy blokes on a match day. In truth, even in the day they made most of their revenue from function booking and were a Community asset. People wanting to come and look at trophies and museum pieces were always a  minority. Any half decent marketing/catering dept would be able to have a high occupancy rate for dining/function rooms in a modern venue. Think community, community, community to access Government funds.

This is it exactly imo, Hff.

And why Gosch's can work for us.   Because of the stations proximity,  and with the  'G'.

If they can make it work great. It's a "nice to have" though, main thing we need is facilities for players and staff

Venuto Club has 90 pokies sucking about $7mill per year away from the community.

Fair point MS, I am not an advocate of pokies.  My main point is it needs to be a Community venue, does not have to be large but must have modern facilities that are in demand by the community. Otherwise I do not think you will find any politician of any persuasion supporting a footy only project.

Priorities:

1. MCG sized training ground with good surface. Another oval/space nearby for breakout groups.

2. Modern gym, pool to AFL standard. Preferably open indoor training space too.

3. Admin centre in same place as above two.

10. Social club/bar.

No doubt with covid 19 our training home base will be impacted due to funding by both gvt & club. Going forward this should be explored as the fisherman’s bend development will see another 20k population in the next decade or two. Ground needs development, club has some  theme song, very close to Mcg, much easier for members to get into vs current aami park & demon shop...

Blues to press ahead with redevelopment, even in  CoVid19  financial times.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/442017/blues-set-to-press-ahead-with-ikon-park-redevelopment

The big clubs take the risks... and bank on their support base to get them thru,  +  with pressured help from the AFL.

That's how they get Big, and how they stay big.    They take the chances,n for the things they want.  Be it players or club developments.

They are Not Afraid to take financial risks, even when in financial situations.  They DARE to Win.    and I can't stand them.

If you give supporters the function areas they would like,  they,  those who would like to be out of the house,  will attend,  and spend their money in support of the club.  Even for Weddings, Funerals,  Interstate games,  the Bluey,  Board meetings,  AGM's,  etc.

Just because many rusted-ons here,  would not go to these equal status events;  many would, and many more  'yet to become demons',  would also like the connection to this club,  such a facility would allow us.

It is easy for Carlton to “take risks” when they have already received $35M from state and federal governments for their redevelopment at Princes park!

Maybe, but George do you know how hard Carlton have fought to remain and prosper at Princess park despite continual resident objections for the past 40 plus years. The Princess park residents make the Jolimont residents seem like an amicable bunch.

This is the whole point goto.  the government's  didn't just throw the money at them...  They had to apply.  They had to Seek,  and to Desire,  and to take the Chances required, to Get It Done.

That's the difference of mindset,  between the clubs.

One club has its umbilical cord still intact.

The other club is independent,  and has had to  'grow-some'  to survive,  and survive it does,  very well,  as an independent club.

Guts,  is whats needed.

And they don't even have a Railway Station,  linking the Melbourne CBD to all the East and Sth East suburbs,  right on their potential doorstep.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
