Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

There will be money up for grabs in the next six months for organisations that have projects ready to go.

Following the GFC we saw that schools and community groups that already had plans in place were the ones immediately given stimulus funding.  This of course meant that the money for projects was not necessarily awarded according to 'need', but rather who could get their projects started the quickest to get people working.

I was working at a school at the time that didn't have a pressing need for a new science lab, but they had just so happened to have drawn up renovations specs as part of their ten year plan.  That lab was almost immediately funded and built.

So, I think there will be an opportunity.

so true..to use that cliche.. shovel ready projects will be prioritised

Push the AFLW and VFLW angle together with the elite medical centre etc etc and you're ready to go. The great thing about Casey is that the long lead time facilities such as the ovals are already there. Indoor training centres gyms etc are relatively simple things to construct.

The land is there at the Berwick goals end.

Yes I know we would all love to be at the MCG but this is there now !!

IMO we should have a space at the MCG itself for our memorabilia. That is our home.

Unfortunately " turning a dollar" does not equate to making a profit. And as I said the club did a business case evaluation on this years ago, and the answer came up negative.

While we have heaps of memorabilia etc, a good part of it is to be seen in the Admin section in AAMI where we have the 12 Premiership cups displayed.  Yes I agree we would all like to see it.....but that is a museum, not a social club.

No other club has a "social club" today unless it is co-sited with a poker machine venue.  Given that we are dumping that option, we should not be investing in a venue that would only be used for 20 days or so out of 365 each year. Social clubs have gone the way of the dodo.

Has anyone thaught about the " human growth " factors for Casey and Cardinia. Now that is long term thinking but maybe the club needs to indulge in that line of thaught.

The club did when they first moved there, and it was one of the reasons that they did.

At the time I was told that 5000 families were moving into Casey every year.

With the average family having 2 kids, than meant 10,000 kids each and every year.

This is a nightmare for schools i.e. building them to accommodate such a big influx every year...you probably need new primary school and 1 new high school every year while that rate of population increase is happening.

And that is why the Club was running "Read like a Demon" and various school programmes.  Get the kids interested before the age of 10.  Get them barracking for the local club...now named the Casey Demons....all that is needed is some success to truly lock them in.

Someone mentioned memorabilia and I can attest to the fact that MFC has one of the finest collections you can imagine. It like Richmond, Fitzoy and Collingwood is a history lesson on the wedge that extends out from the G through this suburbs. Most is in storage and it is crying out for somewhere to house and display permanently. IN Manchester they have a magnificent museum at Old Trafford but there is an equally impressive museum in the heart of Manchester dedicated to football An inner city location is a must as visitors to the city would be attracted, then your coffee shop could pay its way.

I suspect social clubs, like pubs have been hit by drink driving laws, but I think they have a place as long as they are part of a home base which should include a club museum along with admin offices. Having seen the Hawks museum, and the Bombers and the Pies halls of fame I can vouch for the fact they are very evocative and have real appeal to diehards. It's a shame we have nothing like that. Even Fitzroy has a space at Docklands given over to old Lions memorabilia.

Those who attended Gutnick's fund raiser back in '96 would remember the Demons memorabilia in the old change rooms where that event took place. It was wonderful old stuff that is otherwise unseen. I reckon a home base, with a museum cum Hall of Fame, training and office base and social event spaces would still work, especially in the vicinity of the MCG because it is so well served by public transport.

It would also give the players a sense of their place in history. Imagine story boards about the great unexpected victory of 1926, the arrival of Checker, the achievements of Bluey in the Battle of Britain as well as on the field, the other blokes lost in war, the Red Fox story board, the extraordinary achievement of two triple premierships, the indigenous Demons, the Northey and Daniher revivals...there is so much material to work with to make a brilliant museum and Hall of Fame that would be an enormous drawcard.

That is a long winded way of saying I respectfully disagree.

Agreed. Any Facility built will have a meals area. Just make it bigger. When Supporters come in, it is available

Memorabillia can be incorporated within that space

Functionality..

As long as it's not fenced off behind the MCC gates and is accessible to all supporters.

I've been opposed to Casey but really the only reason is that I don't want it to be a disincentive for players thinking of coming to us or players wanting to leave. Having a base around the MCG would be great but if we can't find something optimal we have to be pragmatic. Casey offers the space to work in but is it too far out to expect players to travel? Let's assume most live around the Brighton/Toorak area suburbs, whats the travel time out to Casey? We don't want a Saints/Seaford situation on our hands.

Yeah, nah. Edwins makes sfa $ and has poor foot traffic.

Go there most days and you'll see it is a marginal business at the best of times, despite what some club fan boys might say.

Now and for the foreseeable future it is absolutely useless as a business.

Social clubs, museums, footy cafes are a great way to waste precious club money. Emotion does not equal profit.

Normally I am in accord with you MS so I am surprised to find myself vehemently opposed to your ideas on this. Without a base, and without something that tells its story like a museum or a physical Hall of Fame, a football club, any sporting club, is just an idea. That's what we have been for years; a concept we carry around in our heads but with nothing physical to show for it.

Seinfeld said sports fans are merely barracking for a shirt so when a player changes teams/clubs it's a matter of "Boo. Wrong shirt!"

That's us, an idea represented by a shirt. I'd like something more.

Fair enough pit.

Personally I'd like a MFC bar for supporters at our HQ, but if it does not make a decent profit year round it simply cannot be done. Same reason why we declined the Edwin's cafe site. Making a profit will be so critical in the next 5-10 years.

I wouldn't be opposed to a foyer museum in our new HQ. Glass cabinets with cups, jumpers, medals, Alan Jokovich's tight shorts, etc. But I cannot see us spending much on these types of things.

Seinfeld also said "sometimes the road less travelled is less travelled for a reason!"

we should have some kind of Hall of Fame/museum - it should be housed in the MCG though

This is why Mfc fails to a large extent.   We are the child who hasn't left home.

We are still under the parents roof.   So we don't/haven't forged our own pathway,  home,  and individual identity.  We are a flag,  a Concept as said,  a Theme song about loyalty, not about winning.

So we are a bunch of rusted on loyal losers,  who whinge about others ways.

There is no belonging,  just a preference in the minds of a few.

We need more than this to be a successful club.   Checker gave us our identity, for a few decades,  until those in the Mcc tore it apart.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
