Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah I did ... it's called a balanced view

You might want to try it sometime (if you're capable)

Again with the personal stuff. Why? If you have a personal problem with me (someone on the internet you've never met) you're welcome to message me to work it out, but this forum is for talking footy, and that's what I'm here for.

The coach who oversaw us chasing any good quality outside player/finisher available in the trade/draft period because he's clearly recognized he's got the balance wrong?

So, who were all these outside player/finishers we were chasing.

Since Goodwin has been in charge we've gone after Lever & May...and landed them.

This year we went after Langdon and landed him.

We had a dip at Elliot and missed, we picked up Tomlinson.

None of these are outside player/finisher types.

Langdon & Tomlinson give us some outside run no doubt but they are both, particularly Langdon very hard contested players as well.

Then if we look at this years draft all 3 are hard at it competitive players....

The coach doesn't like purely outside players, I'm with him there.

Nowhere did I say anything about non-competitive players.

Nowhere did I say the coach likes "purely outside players". In fact, I said the complete opposite and that was the reason the balance was being addressed now.

Please try to be accurate when rephrasing what I've said. (Unless of course you were doing it on purpose to suit your argument).

Langdon and Tomlinson have been penciled in for the wings. Pretty clearly that's an outside role.

Pickett (finisher), Jackson (finisher) and Rivers (skill) were added.

Elliot was chased. Martin was chased. Calls were made re: Papley. Weightman was very much in the mix. We didn't take Green.

I find it staggering anyone can look at that big picture and not think we were chasing more skill, finishing and outside players.

Garlett was allergic to physical contact.

Kossie seeks it out.

That is complete rubbish, you are  just ignoring other posts in this thread, which is normal for  you, for his size Jeffy had no qualms about tackling or contact, that's how he got the final shoulder injury, by putting his body on the line

1 bump in a highlight reel, against junior opposition, I have watched Kossie at training, he has some exciting traits, when he gets fitter, he will be good to watch but  he is  also not getting near to bringing down the bigger more mature bodies

Actually, I was a bit humbled by the response  and thanks everyone for the kind words. I must admit, on occasion, to participating in the derailment of a thread and cannot help myself.

On "Ology" I have a little permanent quote that goes " Never argue with fools, they will beat you with their experience".

I do need to take my own advice.

But clubs need both types of players don't they?

I realise it's not as simple as that, even 'outside' players need to go when it's their turn. But are we criticising an outside type player, in a team all but void of them, for not taking on someone else's role, or cleaning up after someone that failed?

Absolutely. I am not criticising Jeff. That’s the way he played.
but it’s also the reason he struggled to play Senior Footy last year

The Coach wanted more.

A Friday morning training thread derailed by Sunday evening with general list related discussion?  It's all just footy talk, i don't see the big deal or pity.

Near the end of the session I got Tye Hourigan’s family to come inside the fence near the entry gates and while we were chatting a fella in his 20’s came in with his dog on a lead and asked if it was ok if he came in to have a look. He was wearing Richmond shorts so I told him very sternly, “It’s a closed session and you will have to leave” He was very apologetic and left. Made the day even more worthwhile.

Lol.  Love your work worship.

Similar to your comments elsewhere, I do wounder if and how anyone could get much understanding of game plans from watching training drills and even circle work or match sims.  I guess the well trained eye might make some pickups about these things, but then, I guess that Richmond aren't exactly going to go changing their set-up based on what they just saw a 17th placed Melbourne's training.  I'm guessing the valuable information is all the verbal instructions delivered by the coaches at the huddles on what we are trying to achieve which can't be spied from the outer.  As @Earl Hood so poignantly noted, it's only if we can actually translate what we do on the track to matchday that anyone will take serious notice and there are no secret games, so the tactical game plan stuff is well on display for all to see then anyway.

I'm not totally dismissive that tactical initiatives at this point in the season can't / don't make a difference but agree with you that it's beyond most casual observers to pickup.

Convenient wedding.

Out of the injuries we have, Melksham is somewhat a worry for me.  I'm hoping that it's just a case of playing it safe and the Milkshake man plays another great season for us, but being the gun, pivotal kind of player that he is, it does worry me that he isn't out there.  He may not quite be on the Maxy kind of level of influence, but I think it's just as important that we have Melksham out on the park as Steven May.

I actually think that Melksham is almost the  general of the forward line as much as we are looking for May to be the general of the backline.

100% agree, he is the most important player in our forward half.

Probably been planning this injury for 12 months. Takes time to organise a decent injury.

You're right, it was a stupid call.  I didn't realise it was actually his wedding.

Just seems that as supporters we get treated a little bit like mushrooms sometimes, which is quite reasonable in a sense, as players are entitled to some privacy, but it does get a little frustrating.  Also me just going a little stir crazy waiting for the season to begin.

Back to the Garlett discussion; we should've kept him.

When ANB and Corey Wagner are the senior representatives of your small forward line department, you've probably an issue.

Nah. It’s worth asking if Dan Butler, Sam Gray or some other stop gap should’ve been added but Jeff was done.

Either way, I firmly believe once he gets over his untimely broken wrist Chandler will be ready to play. And a poor tank alone isn’t a huge reason to doubt Kossie

Yeah I agree the Butler's and Gray's of this world should've been sought rather than keeping Garlett.

But to not replace Garlett with anyone externally was strange. Therefore we probably should've kept him just to make our small forward depth chart look a little stronger for 2020.

Will Pickett play a senior game in 2020? The varying training reports around here range from "he'll be our number 1 small forward in all 22 games" to "he can't run out a training session, therefore project player for 2022".

I'm not happy with our small forward options for 2020 but hope to be proven wrong.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
