Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It was embarrassing at the time and it's even more embarrassing now. 'To Hell & Back - an underdog story of a 17th placed teams' surge up the ladder to 9th'.

I haven't watched a second of this crap. I've enjoyed the extra behind the scenes stuff this year and have really enjoyed what Ben Gibson has brought to the table but stuff like this just reeks of a club that has no idea. How much more urine can this club take from its supporters and members? We're a club that likes the idea of success but has no idea what it looks like and how to get there. We'd want to be ripping some band aids off during this off season.

You should watch it, it was really interesting.  Gave some interesting insights into the running of the club and some of the people behind the scenes.  It was a membership promotion, not a manifesto.

Very strong opinions from someone who hasn't watched a second of it.

Is it something that I should have watched at the time and not now in retrospect?

The series had some really interesting training footage and content. I enjoyed watching Burgess at work (If only Goodwin had an inch of Burgess' motivational capability). The rest of it, in particular the title, is cringe worthy. Particularly now in hindsight. The club needs to minimise the social media fluff pieces this off season. It will put the members even further offside.

Strip the title back and assume it was called "Melbourne's 2019/20 pre-season".

Would anyone care then?

I suggest the answer is no.

Because, if you watch it, you'll find that it was a well-made series which showed us members what we were doing in the 19/20 off-season to try to improve our 2019 season.

It wasn't designed to tell a story to members that we assumed we'd win the flag, or even make finals. At worst, it was designed to show us all that we were putting in hard work (which, if you watch the videos, you'll see we did) to try to have a much better 2020. Which, of course, is what we all wanted.

The title gives rise to flak but title aside, it was fine.

And I think it's rich in the extreme for someone to tee off about it without having watched it.

It was a good watch and gave a really good insight into the inner workings of the pre-season. The Bennell stuff is sad in retrospect given in one episode he says he’s done with alcohol and really wants to put his best foot forward.

Congratulations to all involved.

It was enjoyable to watch, but jeez the title was way off and taints it. Never made it back from hell. Been 56 years now.

If the club does another one of these, just name it preseason 2021 or something. Don’t get ahead of ourselves.

My take on the title was that we went to Hell and then back there again.

Nothing will ever beat the titles "Hotter than Hell" and "Dynamic Demons"!

Speak to any filmmaker and they'll tell you that titles can be one of the hardest, most subjective things to get right. Thinking of the target audience it's a bitter title to take as nothing other than a premiership will truly bring us back from the hell we've been through. I don't think it was them getting ahead of themselves, the "back again" was the journey back through pre-season to bring the football club back together READY for the new season.

Call it "Melbourne Football Club Pre-Season Documentary 2020" and people will probably say, "wow that's really unimaginative".

No, it was silly to call it “To Hell and Back” before anything had been achieved.
Other than that, it was very well put together
I hope it can be done again, with a less provocative title

This is spot on. The content and production was great, I really hope they do it again it was a great insight to what goes on. Just the naming was terrible, I don't think any Melbourne supporter would be angry if it was just called Melbourne Football Club pre-season documentary.

The Highway from Hell would have been better. Doesn't indicate we have got anywhere yet but we know what we want to leave behind.

I love language, and how it influences people and their emotions.

So, the marketing department have gone with an often used phrase 'To Hell and Back' for a title of a video, that shows in great depth the back ground workings of a team, who want to connect with supporters that they are doing their best (not really for the supporters, but for themselves).

By using this phrase, the marketing team have unwittingly provoked supporters into believing that the intention with this phrase was that the team was in no doubt of getting back in to finals at a minimum this year.

If they went with the phrase 'To Hell." would the response from some folk be different?

Choosing to be angry, disappointed, (entitled??) because of a mere word, is...well... [censored] hilarious.

Look beyond the title and look at the content.

Nothing strange as folk they say, nothing strange as folk...

Could not agree more adding " and back" suggests we are winners now. Which we all know is far from the truth.

I didn't really like the to Hell part of it either, the club decided 2019 was pretty much a write off year, should've been left in the past.

2020 Vision (as cliche as it is) probably would've been better. Anything that was focusing on the present rather than what was in the past or to come.

Anyway, the club might not go down the route of a similar documentary but I hope they keep providing us with some quality content, that was certainly the main take away.

I know many will say "thank god" but I'm a bit disappointed the club hasn't continue this this offseason. Was a great entree to the season and had some good insights for fans. I wish they had the balls to say get stuffed to the detractors and just do what they want to do.

Agree. I mean really, the thing people are complaining about is just the name. The actual production itself was fantastic.

Likely the same people that complained about it are the same ones we see hear complaining that the club's media department don't do enough and our website sucks and there's never enough marketing/communication...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
