Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Kossie running rampant

jacko kicking 30.4 in his debut season, including one from 50m to beat Geelong by 1 pt

rivers spear passes leading to endless Rivers of goals (hey! See what I did there)

AVB return and total domination and the related “AVB made me cry” thread

Tmac domination across ground

trac Brownlow and 60+ goals plus AA then signing a 10 year deal (lolz at carringbush and GFC)

really brutal tackling

no big losses

bridgette McKenzie and Angus Taylor sackings

Minor rant incoming.

Last year was a horror show on just about every front. But the one thing that really grated me was how we let our opposition get in our faces and respond so meekly.

One example really comes to mind here is when Nick Blakey, a bean pole 1st year player with a dozen or so games to his name, buried a couple of our players in decent tackles then following that up by pushing their heads into the turf and letting them know all about it. This happened on 3 occasions, on the first two occasions our players just took it without showing any fight or aggression. Worse yet, not a single one of our players came over to help them out.  Only Frost had any pride to give a bit back and showed he wouldn't just accept being pushed around. What sort of team allows their players to be treated with such disrespect? It really felt like we gave up that day and it made me question our team culture.

So what do I want to see? I want to see the closest person to any contest where one of our players has been tackled, involved in a heavy collision or any scuffle, to go over and assist them. Whether its picking them up off the ground, giving them a high five, or pushing the opposition off them. Shouldn't be too much to ask, but happens far too rarely.

Just three things.

Viney to be the animal we know he can be consistently

Weideman to arrive as a power forward clunking marks and kicking goals .

Petracca to arrive as an elite player and rip games apart.

Yes your reply makes no sense and doesn't answer the question I asked you.

Maybe if you originally posted "the coach finally be able to play fit and in form players" it would be more understandable.

Id like to see Salem push the boundaries of his foot skills. We know he is a reliable good kick. They float a little and generally do not go great distance. Id like to see him kick it it harder and lower.

I agree ... but Salem might be under instruction to give the ball off with those dinky 15-20 foot passes.  Often sideways or to the boundary line.

Needs to be given more of a reign to set up forward forays ... Salem can now make time for himself and we need to see more productive disposal levels (and I'm not referring to DE% ... that stat is often overrated)

Melksham is terrific with ball in hand (when he gets it) and there are a few others that can be much more damaging with their disposal (notably Oliver,  Brayshaw,  Harmes,  Petracca & Viney ... as well as Salem)

With a number of others,  it's hold-your-breath time.  The eyes say it all.

And of course we need our players further afield to be sprinting on leads and making position on a consistent basis ... moving targets (at speed) will often catch the eye of a player with ball in hand.

Our forward line failed massively (last season) in that dept.

In soccer they talk about dynamic disposals and that description is self-expanatory.  In footy,  the measurements are often quite vague - just numbers that often don't make a lot of sense.

e.g. Tap outs and tap outs to advantage

But what about tap-outs to advantage that lead to a 'clean' clearance which can lead to a scoring opportunity Damo?

So,  with regards to the topic at hand,  what I would like to see is contained in paragraphs 3 & 5 (above)

One from left field: I'd like to see us win a game with a goal after the siren. AFAIK we haven't done it in our entire history, which is crazy seeing as it happens almost every year (often against us!)

#1  All players, and in particular our talls, to take way more marks per game than past seasons, especially Gawn,  as he is the most able to take this to the next level.  More marks in the midfield.!

#2  The whole team to not take a backward step, in the face of aggression.  To fly the 'D' flag, at every opportunity.   No single player to Not defend himself, when under intimidation.  Flying the white flag should be a ticket to the bench.

#3  An announcement on our home base and training facility at Gosch's,  with social facilities,  & the Pre plans for building.

Agree but even more important , I would like to see the FD getting someone from the Umpiring Department of the AFL  down to training to teach our back men how they interpret the rules so we stop getting pinged for free kicks.

Have requested this for last few years.

We need to find out what is wrong with our positioning and techniques as we rarely receive free kicks for over the shoulder or in the back while giving away both..

My quest started when we did not receive free kicks for being tripped while one of our players was disqualified for an attempted trip.

We must know how to execute the fundamental actions..

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
