Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I support it.

As usual, the biggest concern is the risk of injury to any player.

WHy dont the AFL just donate just donate the money themselves,   god knows they have enough.

WHy dont the just get the millions from  Marvel/Disney?     This game would be a bad idea and is not needed.

My thoughts exactly. I would prefer a telethon with as many big names involved.

Trotting out Gawn, Oliver and May for a non-points contest doesn't really peel the skin from my banana but the cause is much greater than all of our collective concerns to be fair.

To cap it all off, the AFL will do a bastardised version, like The Contenders (SA, country Vic, Nth Tasmania, NSW and NT) vs The Challengers (WA, city Vic, Sth Tasmania, Qld and Ireland) because the only thing they're good at any more is ruining anything of any value whatsoever.

I'll go out on a limb here and say I like the idea, the players who get to play in this game will treasure the opportunity and plus it will sell out in a second and raise lots of $$$ for the cause. Players can get injured any time, look at the Smith and Sloane for the AFLW Dees side. I reckon Clarrie, Max and Trac would love a big V jumper to show the grand kids

I don't need a 'gimmicky' football game to motivate me to contribute to a worthy cause.  Thanks to the outstanding work of the NSW RFS, and a decent slice of good fortune, our tiny property in the Snowy Mountains is still intact (albeit surrounded by miles of gut-wrenching desolation).  Sadly, there are many thousands who are far less fortunate!

Surely the AFL, players and fans can just donate to the cause without having to hold a watered down state of origin game.

The AFL has already made a statement saying they will be looking at ways to support communities long term. They also mentioned they're engaging their corporate partners and engaging with the relevant bodies to determine how else they can help. The SOO game is just one thing they're looking at doing among many. Why do people automatically think this is all that has happened and will happen? It's not cutting cynicism, it's just chest-beating naivety of a kind.

Many AFL players, clubs, officials and corporate bodies have already donated. Many more wouldn't have been publicly known to.

The other part of it that has been publicly spoken about, and maybe you guys just missed it in your rush to be edgy, is the acknowledgment of all who have worked so hard through the disasters so far. That would be a key part of this game should it go ahead.

And as far as injuries go, the proposed date is the same as the second week of the preseason comp, so the very same players would be having the very same competitive hitouts anyway.

Honestly, the automatic boohoo responses here are embarrassing sometimes.

Crazy as this sounds if they were to go ahead with a match I think this is one rare instance I would support them going the path of AFLX. Only because it appears to be less impact on the body, less players and I think you could make it into a carnival style atmosphere. A state of origin round robin AFLX would (I feel) minimise the risk of injuries to players and could be billed as a bit of fun.

Personally though I would prefer them going down the path of doing a telethon with them pledging to match dollar for dollar.

Full-scale telethon involving a re-creation of Ch7’s “World Of Sport”. Handball comps, wood chopping, stationary bike racing, coach’s corner with many, many Ballantyne gift packs and Patra  Orange Juice Carton’s about the place.

It's very fortunate that we have very few who qualify for either team

Injuries if they occur surely would only happen to MFC players if selected.

A good time to have the second best ruckman in my opinion

Let the others get on with it.Yawnnnn.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
