Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Last week Rivers, Jackson, Pickett, Tomlinson, Brown and Landgon went on a 3-day camp with Goodwin, Jetta and Gawn where they learnt about the club, life as a Demon player and played some casual sports.

On a different scale but it reminds me of the program the Hawks have to take new recruits to walk the Kokoda trail.

Terrific initiative.

Footnote:  I wonder if there is a hint in the attendees of our next captain...

As opposed to the boxing camp where Maloney would belt the bejeezus out of the new recruits to toughen 'em up abit.

Given our new recruits during Maloney's time can't see his methods worked too well.  Don't think there are any left!

The draftees are 'millennials' - a whole new breed on whom old school methods don't work.

One of them being that he's not yet a Dees player, only "training with".

If that's the case it gives you an idea of how tough his position is this summer. Allowed to train with us but treated as an outsider and not part of the team. Then on 6 March, if he makes it he's suddenly part of the team he's been treated as an outsider to. Seems very short sighted and culturally backwards. Wouldn't you want to give him the best possible chance of success on and off the field. I would have thought being made to feel a part of the Club was more likely to do that than being made to feel that you're not part of the Club.

There's a good chance the club wasn't allowed to take him. There's some strict rules they have to go by having someone train who isn't 'officially' on the list. I think he'd be certain as to what his position in the squad is and the club will be doing what they can so he doesn't feel like and outsider, all the training photo's show him smiling and laughing with the others.

I think that this is more likely the case.

He has kids and may have opted to stay home with his family. The others are likely all single.

No the reason is he is not officially a Demon as he has permission to train and then the Club can offer Harley a rookie list spot.

Really  to think that the Club wouldn't ask him if they could shows how negative and unrealistic some fans can get!

I wouldn’t have thought not “officially “ being a Demon, would have stopped him from going on a 3 day camp, if he wanted to.

He is officially training with us and involved in all club activity, I would imagine.

Unless of course you know otherwise.

No I don't officially know anything RL.

But AFL have rules and procedures and he is not under a contract to Dees yet, also which prevents some freedom to Harley.

Harleys  main role is now to convince while with the Dees that he is worthwhile for us to give him an opportunity and offer him a contract some time up to March via the SSP method.

I think you’ll probably find that the idea of the camp is to introduce these kids not only to the club, but also to an AFL system that they have never been a part of. I’m pretty certain that Tomlinson, Brown, etc weren’t invited either.

(edit: corrected by It’s Time... Tomlinson etc were on the camp)

MFC article on Club site said Tomlinson Langdon & Brown were there too.

My bad, I didn’t notice that. Apologies.
Then I guess the answer is that the AFL has rules regarding those invited to train, only being allowed to train... and I imagine the club would see more benefit in having him training than hitting golf balls and playing table tennis?

Not sure the AFL can control if and when Bennell wants to go to a driving range or to playback yard cricket with some friends. He is permitted to train with us after all.

I doubt the AFL would dictate what the training comprises. I'm sure the players that went away would have been doing some training around whatever else they were doing.

Club might have decided full time training was more important at this point.

On a sidenote HT are you getting the smoke I'm getting. I'm in the East near the coast. My backyard's full of billowing smoke. Never seen anything like it before. I can hear the boats on the harbour are having to use fog horns so must be so thick there they can't see through it.

Wow, just had a look at a webcam. The harbour is completely blanketed. If anyone's interested here's a live webcam. You can barely see the Sydney Harbour bridge.  https://webcamsydney.com/

It just occurred to me that it might be insurance related?  As he's not yet a member of the club, and only has permission to train, could it be that he's only insured against club training accidents? (I know, clutching at straws ?)

The smoke where I am (inner west near Marrickville) is the worst we have had to date.  I went out for a coffee and my daily constitutional, and arrived home with a sore throat and heavy lungs.

I hear that liquid refreshments are a good antedote, so if you're suffering too much, head in to Dulwich Hill this Saturday arvo where my band is playing.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
