Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Id like to hear how many games he saw Pickett and Jackson play in person

Whilst I can't say whether he has or has not seen either play in person although I bet he did (at the very least at the state carnival).

Please ask why we didn't bid on Tom Green @ pick 3

I'm not being smarty pants but i woulkd have thought the reason is clear. They wanted Jackson and ran the risk of not getting him if GWS called our bluff and letr us have Green.

A secondary reason would be as good as Green might be we have plenty of inside bulls and no athletic freaks capable of playing as mid, forward and ruck.

I think it was Fifty-5 had a theory that Pick 8 may have been acquired from North with the intention of using it on Jackson.

Could you ask if this was the case and we then subsequently had to use pick 3 on him as we became aware of other clubs interests and that he wouldn't make it to 8?

Another question of interest for me is, if he likes certain players that we miss out on in a particularly draft, how much dialogue is kept with said player or manager in the hopes of planting seeds for a trade further down the track? I suspect this goes on a bit with an example possibly being Langdon who we were reportedly keen on in his draft year.

As a follow up to Cal Twomey's article today (which said we chose between Jackson, Flanders and Young at 3). It seems we threw away the opportunity to draft a top 5 prospects at 8 so that we could address a need. We only ever had one intention with our 2nd pick (which goes away from what the club has always said, take the best available early).

Seems obvious that they tipped their hand when they made the pick swaps with Adelaide, and the odds of them passing were tiny. If they did pass then we get one of the top mids in the draft who can impact next year instead of a developing ruckman who maybe able to become a mid and who maybe could play forward but will most likely be playing at Casey next year.

Have s funny feeling unless We decide LJ is in for a developmental year he will find away to feature fairly strongly in the AFL on our forward lines and even on the ball.

Naturally he may start at Casey but I don't expect him to stay there all year.

Aldo bullish about  Kossie who will will his way into a senior opportunity early on.Ehether the big gap btw Casey and AFL is too far can only be tested with senior games.

No 32 Trent Rivers May even start in  Round1 as he looks a fine fit on a HB flank with Lever   snd Hibbo/ Jetta beside him..His presence could  well keep Oscar out if the reckoning for a KP post.

I believe BB in hindsight this call is the right one  that the team desperately needed and   will be the most important pick for the next 5 drafts.

To get a small skilled and fast dynamo with defensive skills and footy smarts was a necessary part of our players puzzle to get X factors into a largely stereotyped but  fairly talented group. (LJ is also this type of player )

We desperately needed Kossie or Weightman and although no star mid was left we don't know now if Rivers might not end up starring alongside Clarry and Gawny in the future.

That pick swap from 8 to 10 and 28 that Cal Twomey has  lauded on his presser on afl.com.au on our draft could be crucial to our furure hopes and success.

Time will tell but I am bullish about our drafting and list plus our  fitness which I think will take us a fair way back in 2020.

He didn't mention any names but did mention that he was starting the interview process of a few players. We didn't press him because his mobile connection was breaking up at the end and we had limited time.

He flew over here to watch Jackson play in 3 out of his last 4 games. Not sure how many he watched in person before that.

Jason said that Jackson was the first player they interviewed back in February. Safe to say they have been into him for a long time.

The odds might have been tiny has would not take green, but clearly they did not want to take ANY risk of not getting jackson. And didn't.

The question of whether that was the right decision is a different one to the one you initially posed. I think.

And it wasn't Taylor would answer they are backing their judgement

Well done on getting Jason Taylor on the podcast guys. Good stuff.

I like Jason Taylor. Comes across as a good guy. Plays his cards pretty close as he has to but full credit to him coming on.

Would have liked to know his thoughts on the media knowing our selections at 3 & 10 a week or so out from the draft.

JT didn't give much away, but that's to be expected.

Trying to read between the lines I think the 3 most interesting things he had to say were:

1. When asked about the Gold Coast's first 2 picks he wouldn't comment on the clubs draft board but there did seem to be an undercurrent of Jackson being rated very very highly. Possibly at number 2 on the board and hey maybe even number 1 (although I doubt it). There's no benefit to putting your neck on the line further by publicly stating he's ahead of one of the Suns boys but it was reassuring that they made the Jackson pick proactively and not because it was a draft heavily weighted to the top 2 picks.

2. That the difference between Pickett and Weightman really came down to Pickett being more of a crumbing specialist with slightly better pressure skills whilst Weightman has the better aerial game. Sounds like they rated both of them and team fit became the deciding vote.

3. Powerful seems to be the word JT likes best for Rivers. Promising for his midfield potential but also hopefully means that from early in his career he knows how to knocks guys off the ball and use his body.

What type of phone do you have?

If you have an iPhone download or go to the Podcast app (the icon is purple) search Demonland and download or just click on the latest episode called Draft Wrap Up (Jason Taylor).

I’ve never used an Android phone but if you download a podcast app you should just be able to follow the same instructions as above.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
