Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2020 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Good luck to Collingwood compiling a decent list with just these picks:  14, 16, 65, 66, 68, 75, 91, 105, 116, 122, especially if Reef McInnes is taken before 16 or they consolidate some picks to go up the order to get a top player before someone bids for him.  Either way they will be drafting players with picks > 60 (which will all become 50ish).  Of course they may 'Live-Trade' their 2021 first pick for two good 2nd round picks (after McInnes is taken) to give them more picks in the first or second round.  Even then they will still be taking players at low picks.

Their list management looks a right old mess, not that that is a bad thing for the rest of the comp.

I feel for every kid who gets drafted by this mob.

Could we trade 18, 19 and 28 for 14 and 16?  Is that a win win given how many players the pies have to take - we might be able to get the two that we have our eye on most.

That could work.

I reckon there will be a lot of 'second guessing' other clubs moves so the pick swap you suggest could come into play if a player we really want is likely to go earlier than hoped and where McInnes goes to the Pies.

A lot of Live Swaps will be happening on Wednesday night!

I think it depends on where they believe McInnes will be bid and if they want him.

If they believe he'll be bid before 14 then this could be a good deal for them - they'll lose 18 instead of 14 and will have an extra pick up their sleeve in 28.

If they believe he'll be bid after 19 it could also appeal because they can pay for him with 28 - if we hold 14 and 16 and "agree" not to bid and they hold 18 and 19 then the only risks that exist are GWS at 15 and Richmond at 17.

We might telegraph that we're keen to bid on him at 18 to lubricate a deal.

AFL Draft 2020 power rankings: The top 30 prospects

The Australian puts us in the race for Brayden Cook

20. Brayden Cook

Forward/wing, 188cm, 74kg

South Adelaide/SA

Ranking points: 120 (SANFL U18)

Clubs that would suit: GWS, Adelaide, Melbourne

After growing 7cm in the past 12 months, Cook has rocketed up draft boards after a number of eye-catching performances at under-18 level. The 18-year-old has real X-factor, speed can take a strong mark – as a forward target or behind the ball – and is dangerous around goal.

Dan says:

When he is on, his impact is up there with the best of this draft class.

Jordan says:

Cook can take the game away from the opposition – he won a number of games off his own boot this year. Not many can do that.

They have Carroll one spot behind him -

21. Jack Carroll

Midfielder, 187cm, 79kg

East Fremantle/Western Australia

Ranking points: 126 (WAFL Colts 2020)

Clubs that would suit: Adelaide, Brisbane, GWS

Carroll enjoyed a strong WAFL Colts season, winning 60 per cent of his possession in a contest and averaging 23.1 disposals and five clearances. He’s got class on the outside but his work in congestion is now the major string to his bow and he can also be used across half-back.

Dan says: I have Davies and O’Driscoll just ahead in the midfield pecking order, but Carroll shapes as a promising candidate for a club searching for a contested ball-winner in the second round.

Jordan says: The Josh Kelly comparison has been made and the more I watch, the more I see it. Development of his contested game has been a real highlight this year.

They have a great get out of jail free card in father/son picks.

With another Daicos due soon and Kelly back from injury to go with Moore and Daicos otherwise they would be a mess.

Moore is excellent.  Daicos looks like he will be, as does his brother next year.  The Brown brothers are yet to show much.  So not sure those F/S are enough to offset an aging list and having to take 6 draftees with 3-4 of them as latish picks in this draft.  They will have 2 very good NGA players with McInnes.

They would be lucky to have more than a handful of very good players aged 20 - 30.  Most of the list is C to B level journeymen.

My main point was it has been terrible list management to have to take 6 draftees in a highly compromised draft when they don't have much currency and an uninspiring list.

If we hold and use our current picks, this would be a dream result. I expect one of or both those players to be off the board by the time our picks come around. If we could land either of them I'd be happy. Both have attributes we lack and have potential to become long term AFL players.

I'm  not disagreeing 'Lucifer'...let's hope they keep up the good work.

...but imagine if they didn't have the father/son picks?

Also think Buckley has had an easy ride with his mates in the media...might change next season if performances drop off some more.

Any footage of Jack Carroll actually playing footy ? I can't find anything ?

Sydee, I saw the 2019 AFL under 17s futures game last year at MCG. I know there is footage of him still on YouTube from that games which you should be able to access.  I saw some further WA Colts games which you may locate for East Freo.

He is a highly skilled left footer with good pace (3sec 20m time) and evasive skills. Can win his own footy but ideally suited to a wing position imv. Needs a year or two in the gym as most 17/18 year olds.

I watched Q1 of the futures game he looks balanced but didn't do a great deal in that quarter and looked a bit light physically even at that level - very short sample I know

Eddie Ford seemed to go ok - surprised he isn't mentioned in the top 30

Agree. Eddie Ford was excellent in 2019 and NAB league as an underager.  Perhaps he is underrated in the system as other youngsters are athletes and Ford is a footballer first. Obviously this years lack of any under18s matches hurts his chances. But I’m sure he will get drafted. My view is that given the lack of footy, some are resting on combine results for getting excited by those stats. It’s a tough year for recruiters. Importantly I’m glad we have JT on board.

Most drafted (a few in the rookie draft) but Kaine Baldwin, Jackson Callow, Sam Collins and Will Parker missed out. Baldwin had a second ACL operation during the season and Parker chose cricket ahead of footy. The other two are Tasmanians (sorry Nasher).

Really good points made here. And yes a bid for Coleman is not to be ruled out.  It would force the Lions into consideration of keeping Coleman or Crozier.  Also Gulden is a great runner and very skilled.  It’s a shame that the Swans have their academy zone (a very biased draft) as Gulden would be a good get. Again JT might make them have a think.

Watched the Lions v Swans last night.  The Swans got a big bonus again with their Sydney academy zone.  Got Mills and Heeney.  Now Gulden and Campbell both look ready to go young midfield stars.  Gulden should get the Rising Star for round 1.

Swans could surprise a few and be a chance to compete for a finals berth.  And the kid Logan McDonald could be an absolute star.

Need to get this post and video deleted. Ffs. Jack Carroll is exactly the tall skilled midfielder we need at MFC. Dees trying to push up to 1st round and I think it’s not just for Findlay Macrae. Jack Carroll is better imv and hopefully JT is onboard.

He played a ripped game for the Blues tonight !!!

Swans in 2020 probably did the best out of any club in this draft.

JUH of course was a gift for the bulldogs.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
