Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

"We just weren't prepared for what the game was going to demand".

That is inexcusable on so many levels.

Yes, but not the way in which it might appear here.
Knowing the impact of injuries and whatnot, the abject failure of refusing to adjust until it was way too late (and even then only minimally) is what's inexcusable for me.

What sort of adjustment were you looking for?

You realise that Ben Simmons is a point guard traditionally around 6 foot to 6 foot 3 inches, his athleticism is the reason he is able to play the position so maybe Goodwin is convinced Luke can play as a midfielder, is he breaking the mold like Norm Smith?

When Norm Smith played Ron Barassi as a ruckrover he changed the traditional ruck combinations where there was 2 ruckmen and 1 rover.

okay I'll play

Pies v Tigers 2019 first round.

Pies played a wonderful tactical game that beat Richmond who were at relative full strength.

Cannot remember Goodwin trying anything different all season.

I can appreciate there might be frustration at the lack of initiative within individual games. But I'm more interested in Goodwin developing a plan to win a Premiership which may mean sticking to a single plan until the players deliver it every time. Changing plans for individual games might not necessarily be in the longer term interest of a club trying to be Premiers.

I'm certain Goodwin and his group would admit mistakes were made. It's hard to grow or improve if you don't make mistakes.  And they were challenged by injuries like few teams before them, which is tough going considering the young list profile.

Btw, this ''plan B'' talk is a load of crap.  Everyone knew how Hawthorn played when they won 3 flags, they just couldn't deal with it.  Clarkson didn't alter their game style in season, just as Richmond played to their strengths this year.  Do you think Leigh Matthews had a plan B ? Ever heard ''From the Lips of Lethal'' ?  Malthouse won a flag going around the boundary to minimise the effect of turnovers.  He didn't suddenly start using the corridor during games they were losing.

All clubs adjust their tempo at times during games, throw a 7th defender into the mix, match up on a dominant player who's got off the leash, move a tall defender forward, etc., but that's not having a ''plan B''.

Flag teams don't worry about ''plan B''.

For the dopes (and they are numerous) - Goodwin was referencing the operations and the fact that the entire midfield group had delayed/badly interrupted preseasons where they could barely do contesteted work before January (some February).

Some on here just don't want to accept that fact ProDee.

Demonland  - home of the infallible

The Club from Bartlett down has collective blame for last year, this was acknowledged at the Forum

It is a new year, learnings, everybody's favourite new word, have been taken from those mistakes

It is Captain Obvious to state if we have a similar year Goodwin and others will be on very shaky ground

To paraphrase a wonderful phrase about modern art

'I could do better than Goodwin'

'Yes, but you didn't'

Iirc many of the successful coaches have said they generally adapt a game plan more to take advantage of some of the major strengths and general nature of the core/key players in the team and the general strengths of team as a whole, rather than the other way round LD.

There's no contradiction between what RN said and what LD said.

Not to mention that when the season did start we had on average 13-15 players unavailable every week.

Well if the coaching staff knew how unfit the team was in the early rounds, and were hoping to catch up over the course of the year, it seems logical to avoid a 'chatoic', high-pressing, physically taxing gameplay. Why not try to play defensively and scratch out a few low-scoring close games. To me, the stubbornness with which the coaching staff stuck with a plan that they knew wasn't working as early as Round 3 is just ridiculous.

That is pretty much what we did.

Except for the win bit.

Same old posters jumping in to attack any criticism of the club. Almost as if they just wait around on this forum for someone to call dumb. Seems like a dumb use of ones time, when we're all waiting for ACTIONS on the field and a turn around in results next year to actually prove the intelligence (or lack of) of any statements made.

Listening to the interview this morning, I gained more of an appreciation of what went on within the 4 walls of the club this year. “Players doubting the game plan”, “players losing confidence”, “players questioning the football department ‘s whole strategy”

Meanwhile, Goodwin a young coach is worried about the team’s ability to get it together at round 3. As the year progresses, he’s needing to keep the faith, the motivation and belief of the players, publicly provide explanations for every loss, and cop un-censored criticism from traditional media and of course social media, of which, we are part.

Imagine the experience of those underperforming players this year, those that came off pre season surgery and inadequate preparation; imagine the experience of Oscar MacDonald.

The fact that the club has retained 100% of their required players, traded on those that weren’t (Frost was a bad influence), attracted Langdon and Tomlinson, beat others to secure 1st refusal on Harley Bennell, is quite astonishing. Certainly not something that would have happened in the recent past.

I hated last season as much as anyone, but feel admiration for the players and staff and a growing confidence in where our club is heading.

Don't need to be expert to know Goodwind didn't have a clue. Was pretty much outcoached all season.

How about this - we make the 8 then you apologise and delete your account.

We don't then I'll do the same for mine...

Deal?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
