Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Half-Time breaks

If it ain’t broke then don’t mess with it. I believe the players need a decent half time break. They are pushed too hard as it is with the modern game. Will lead to more injuries. As if there aren’t enough already.

Maybe less cool down time will be beneficial injury wise.
Gotta be better than playing matches in Darwin.

Shorten HT? Wtf for? Give the players some time to recharge FCS

should be shortening the quarters. With all the stoppages these days footy has changed to 33 min quarters. Games go for 135 mins plus. Bring it back under 120 I reckon

This is just further proof the game is run by the media and any changes have nothing to do with the supporters, clubs or players.

Gil "Rubber Stamp" McLachlan is supposed to be the custodian of the game but in fact he is the custodian of channel 7's interests. But cheaper pies.

Apparently the proposal has widespread support from clubs and players.

As a fan, I don’t like it at all. Some people want to go for a smoke, some need food and try taking 3 kids to the loo and not missing any action. You will be hearing a lot more of “ Down in front.” They could ask the people every now and then about something like this you know.

If they prefer less cool down time just place high nets around the boundary line to eliminate throw-ins.

AFL are looking at halving half time break. Going to 10 minutes instead of 20 minutes, as reported on 7 News. To take place next season.

I don’t know how much it’d impact players. Would impact my ability to slot a beer at half time.

first they gave away our draft pick and now theyre trying to get rid of my visit to the frank grey smith bar

The MCC might have to allow drinks in seats. Revenue will take a hit. It’s hard enough getting a beer in the FGS in 20 minutes. They will be forced to pre pour beers

Friday games should start at 7.20 and would be done by 10 - actually all night games should start at 7.20.

Isaac Smith was on the radio this morning and said as a player 20 minutes was too long but thought Clarko would not like the reduction.

Only failing is Auskick will be given the [censored].

Other than having to put up with much less total half time  drivel on 7 what does this achieve?
I do think 20 minutes is far too long but how about phasing it in to 15 for starters?

As has been mentioned, and I know it is very early pre preseason, but plans are made and fitness regimens commenced based on what has been happening forever .

Still, if there is, for a welcome change, only one unnecessary rule change over this inter seasonal break then I suppose we should be grateful.

That may be the plan all along. Float the idea of the extreme (10 minutes) but after the anticipated outrage then agree to compromise at 15 minutes. Personally, I'd be happy with a 15 minute halftime break. But I'd also want some other time saving changes, such as Lucifer mentioned. In addition to getting rid of the ruck nomination rule which clearly delays ball-ups and throw-ins, I'd like to see the time after a goal restricted more. It's been allowed to creep out over the last couple of years so there's an ad plus time for a replay. That's unnecessary.

Apparently the main reason for shortening quarters is because it will improve the television product. What a great idea. I imagine stakeholders like caterers, fans in attendance and players would be wowed by that.

Why don't they simply computer generate the fans in the grandstands and get it over with? You get full houses every time, all the noise (not only roaring for the teams, but for the sponsors too!), you don't even need the stadiums. Gosch's paddock and a computer can replace the MCG.

I agree with this 100%.

I never watch a night game past half time, the break is just long enough to realise I've probably had more beers than I should and cut myself off and call it a night. If the break was halved, I'd just keep plowing on

well the multi colored seats at use at the Gabba and some other grounds are there to deliberately trick the TV cameras into thinking htere are people there so why not.

The thoughts of a CGI roman gladiator like crowd could be a start.

There will also be the health and safety issue with tens of thousands fans all rushing in haste to get to the toilet, food kiosks and bars in a mad rush to avoid the queues. Order is bound break down and some of those steep stairs are dangerous. Also fans in their seats at start of quarters can expect at least 5 minutes of annoying  interruptions by other fans rushing to get back to their seats.

Imagine if a small kiddie ate a bad chip and got sick. Better for them to stay home and watch on the big screen. They can then be shown ads for healthier chips. Or, non-healthier chips. It's the consumers choice! Win-win-win!

They've been trying to make the live thing more like the TV thing anyway. Loud music to keep our tiny minds occupied, ground announcers to tell us who's playing (in case our feeble concentration has drifted) & the score that we can see right in front of us on multiple big screens ... it's time for Gil to bite the bullet and answer our subconscious cries for help and ban live attendance completely (without consultation, otherwise it just wouldn't be right).

They want to reduce half time breaks to 10 m and quarter time breaks to 6m so as to reduce the length of games for TV but they are also talking of introducing a set number of player challenges to umpiring decisions! Endless score reviews and now player challenges will blow out playing times.

Oh and goodbye Auskick, so much for the importance of kids footy.

Shorter breaks will be a real disadvantage to young teams, especially in finals.

Expect a lot of 4th quarter fade outs.

OMG. What if one of those young teams is GCS? Or Carlton? Does Gil understand what he's doing? All this meddling could kill the very thing he loves.

NO!

The half time break is the right amount of time  for both players and the rest of the humans involved in the game to take stock, regroup, converse, make something to eat, be social with people at your house who aren’t as interested in the game as you, and the list goes on. Plus why would sponsors want less available airtime? Who is asking for this, and who would it benefit?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
