Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What to do with Pick 10?

If we bid Green at 3 the best move for GWS if they want to match is to trade 4 for a 2019 pick in the teens and a 2020 1st rounder.  That way only the 2019 pick and later picks get swallowed up and the 2020 1st is quarantined. No doubt they will have this contingency pre organised if they plan to match.

Could that put them in trouble next year though? As in, do they have a similar academy player to think about then? There's a heap of them next year isn't there?

not thilled with this constant trying to split the picks and take us further down the pecking order. we only have a very limited number of slots available. we should be taking the best players we can. Quality not quantity.

Would you rather fill our list spots with first and second round picks, or one top pick and a bunch of rookies? If anyone should know about not putting all the eggs in one basket, it's Dees fans.

Stephens, Kemp, Young, Ash and Robertson are players I would happily take at 10 ahead of Weightman.

Agreed. I really hope we don't split 10 again, I doubt we will be in a position to get 2 top picks in for quite some time this draft could really set us up of for a real flag tilt.

Could Pickett slide to 28 or is that way to optimistic?

My uncle coaches the Sydney under 17 northern development squad and he said the Swans have 2 players coming through next year as good as Heeney. I've shared this before and will try and track down the names, not that it really bothers us I suppose

I'm not sure how having an extra 1st round pick next year is a disadvantage?

That's why I was asking questions about the specifics of next year's academy picks. Just wondering who they have coming through, and if it just means their first rounders get burned next year anyway in the same they would this year. Hopefully that makes sense?

They traded their 2020 1st to Adelaide in the deal for 4.  Getting a 2020 1st back offers flexibility and scope next year and is far better than trading down for 2 picks this year that would definitely be swallowed up if they match.

My question was about what their academy player status is expected to be next year though. I get what you're saying, but was interested to weigh up the chances of it pending what they have planned to do/need for next year. Cheers.

They have Green’s brother, Josh, available next year. He played in the U17 All Stars futures game this year

Cal Twomey said a couple of weeks ago Pickett would be out in the 30s, he said this week he'd be late teens. Who knows. Fingers crossed I guess

Are you hinting around p5, for 10 and a couple of future picks?

As I said, I'll be surprised and exceedingly disappointed if we took Weightman at 10.

He's simply not a top 10 talent.

One skill that I believe  you are underestimating about Weightman PD is his goal sense.

Boy do we need a smaller type busy bee and in oppo face which I believe is Cody's mantra.

Henry is best but Cody 2nd if we are to balance out team on forward skill.

Pickett might have more tricks and he is ferocious as well but may not be there at 28. Also do we want both?

That is assuming that we don't do any more pick splitting.

Happy for Jackson or Young at 3 and Weightman 10 and Pickett / best Key Position player left at 28.

97 or about 70 may be a surprise VFL or SANFL or left field  type Like a AVB..

Thats a fair haul if you then add Harley and Brown Maybe Sokol from WAFL and on top of Langdon and Tomlinson.

"New recruits" like AVB Neitschke Joel Smith And Hannan And KK Lever And May even Melksham Tom Mac  and Jetta all fit and firing would make an unbelievable difference to skill confidence and ability to see out games and follow a decent game plan that must be implemented for success.

Coaching snd Fitness seems to be going to a new  level. Am intrigued by Alan Richo's role. Under wraps and bit like Brendan Mac over the board.

And not a Basket Case in sight I might add!!

Surely this was based on an expectation we’d split 8 for picks in the teens.

I think we expect Pickett to be there at 28.

Hope we hold it, speaking to a few in recruiting and development in WA word is top 6 to 10 in this draft are rated a lot higher than the next 20-25 who they still feel are ahead of next seasons batch.

I think the needs basis of the clubs in front of us will see one of Ash/Young (i expect GWS to take either at 4), Kemp, Serong or Stephens to be there at 10.

I'm happy to take a Jeremy Sharp or Elijah Taylor with 28

Any chance at all Freo don't take Robertson, mate?

I feel in these situations and it's definitely strange to go from a Prelim to 17th you can afford a little bit of room to take a risk with those picks.

however, i would only do that with 1. if we take Jackson we should take best avaliable at 10

if we take Green or Young we should be able to take a weightman or Pickett a little early if that's who we really want.

I see a bit of the MFC trying to be too clever in this.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
