Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

When Will It End

A sizeable number of the Population are racist, some countries have higher ratios than others but humans are still basically tribal/racist.

I dont ever see that changing in fact it is probably getting worse.

I have ( because there is little I can do about ) accepted that these things will keep happening.

i just voice my disapproval and get on with life.

Reminds me of the dilemma of pest and feral animal control.  Generally, once they are out and mixed into any large ecosystem the idea of removing them again is just a fantasy.  So the strategy has to shift to containment and keeping them to as small a population as possible while 'hardening' the ecosystem where possible to limit the damage they do.

In social terms, I guess that translates to always keep the pressure on the [censored] and always keep your own piece of life as clear and safe as possible.

On the other hand, when you think of the sheer scale of progress in the last thirty, fifty, hundred years, it is not completely impossible to image as future where racism is truly, truly marginal. The closer we get the easier it gets!

Good on the club for their stance on this issue.   Nobody should have to put up with that nasty rubbish.

No doubt some will be sneering, accusing us of being "woke", "triggered" and "virtue signalling".

I don't agree with your last paragraph, I think the problem is getting worse.

i certainly agree it is getting worse in many parts of the world, fanned by rising nationalism and xenophobia

on the other hand it is improving in other parts

Agree with both your comments, but can you improve my day by telling me where it is getting better?

I think the internet is actually making it worse, it gives racists a voice and introduces them to like minds which emboldens both.

Hmm... It is getting better to the extent that it is now a fight and not a bashing.

Being aggressively racist, and a whole lot of other obnoxious and predatory behaviours, now come with a price.  As long as we keep making that price be paid, behaviours will change.  It'll be an unpleasant process because the grubbiness will have to keep being made visible.

Ironically, the process could actually be described as a kind of social darwinism.  Bitter laughter ensues.

true, social media gives a voice and platform to the more undesirables

where better? why here in australia, od, believe it or not, though it does get somewhat obscured by the fog of social media and hypocrisy

I am struggling with that idea dc, my experience is the reverse perhaps my personal situation makes me more exposed then others.

I think racism gets more prevalent in proportion to Population Growth.
On the Surface it seems not so bad, but Australia is still a very racist Country. It goes on in Melbourne every night, whilst most of us sleep.
Police working the night shift deal with it every day.
violent crimes and racism.
Education is the only way to lessen it, but it will always be around.
humans like their own, most of the time.
The Indigenous Community has to get stronger and keep being strong. I hope they do it.

You forgot “gaslighting”. I had never heard of woke until last week when the term was used by Barack Obama, since then I keep hearing it from numerous right wingers re The Deputy Prime Minister and his woke inner city lunatics.

I think most of the accusations of woke are directed at issues of perceived or real (justified or not) moral panic

It will continue to get worse thanks to social media.  These people now have a platform to share their 'views' to millions of people and, thus, the above happens far more than it should.

It's disgraceful behaviour, but what can we do about it?  Everything put in place doesn't necessarily seem to be working all that well.  We continue to bring more and more attention to it, yet it seems to be happening more than ever.

your problem,od, is your memory of how blatant it used to be, certainly what i call little 'r' racism

i liked lg's analogy " it is now a fight and not a bashing "

it will never totally disappear, people will naturally gravitate to a group and be wary of other groups. the more  pressure a group is under the more that group adopts groupthink and more the tendency for that group to discriminate against other groups whether rational or not. racism is just a form of of discrimination and competition. Demonland is a prime example but our discrimination is not based on racism  but most time is quite irrational

The thing of social media is that it gives these wankers a platform to spew their garbage from the comfort of their keyboard/phone. It gives them the voice to say these things they’ve been thinking with little risk of repercussions, I can only hope investigations into this idiot uncover who they are and they’re able to be named, shamed, and fired from wherever they work.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
