Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Same question, different wording. Any idea why he's in rehab? I don't recall any mention of an injury.

Think he took such a battering, they are just building him again, told me he is fine, he is only just turned 20  so I assume they don't want to break him

Neither he nor Weid have any visible strapping anywhere

I’m really liking seeing Pruess returning trimmed down. Whether or not he makes it is another question but there’s little doubt he’s trying to emulate Gawn’s example and why wouldn’t he!? He said when he came to the club he wanted to learn off Max and to progress into a better player, he’s got a long way to go but these are good signs.

If i was the new fitness man I would assess the players who ended the season early by putting them in the rehab group so I could monitor their progress from the injuries, until I was satisfied they are upto the increased workload of the full training.

Our new fitness man is being conservative so these players get in a full preseason and the best shot at playing the full season.

Today’s bugbear:

Extravant balancing left arms waved above head high.

See: Petracca and Nietschke.

The pace of the game is too quick to waft your hand like an orchestra conductor. Extent it out for balance but at the same time keep it in tight and quick.

Petracca’s high ball drop has hurt his kicking efficiency and Nietchske doesn’t look quick enough to be a good afl player unless he’s got very good skills.

Sharpen it up lads.

Petracca's ball drop height sometimes it is ridiculous. The bloke can kick he just needs to drop it closer to his knees than his shoulders. For a number 2 draft pick with skills you would think this should have already been addressed.

He's changed his ball drop. In 2017 he wasn't dropping it as high and was hitting them quite flush.

Something has changed along the way.

Petty ended the season sidelined with a groin injury. I assume he's over that so it could be something else.

It was mentioned earlier in the week that James Jordon had built up considerably over the off season. Here’s a photo from yesterday’s training. He looks like he has a bit of a way to go still.

Would any of our track watchers like to give us a comparison of the development of these three young blokes drafted 12 months ago:

• Tom Sparrow (2 games, injured for parts of the season)

• James Jordon (0 games, would have been close to senior selection at times)

• Aaron Nietschke (0 games, ACL early and out all year)

I would imagine that Sparrow is the most advanced. What are their prospects for selection in 2020?

In fairness to Saty your posts praising Kev's amazing training reports were thinly veiled attacks on Saty.

In fairness to Dazzle, you manage to miss or seemingly allow the thinly veiled attacks coming from the other way, Andy.

I love this time of year but loathe it at the same time. It’s rinse repeat year after year. Invariably turns into a petty [censored] 90% of the time.
It just seems as though some posters get a little more leeway with petty potshots because they get to training.

Does it really matter? Lewis Jetta would be close to the best kick in the AFL and he does it.

Doesn't  Lewis still hold the record for the most consecutive points kicked?

Also had some concussion issues apparently, so potentially that could factor into no contact training at this stage, but only guessing.

Not sure if it was a record but he kicked 19 points in a row from debut before he kicked his first goal. I was there the day he kicked his first goal. It had become a thing week after week as he kept kicking points. Everyone started cheering his every shot hoping it would break the drought. His last consecutive point looked like it was going to be the drought breaker as it headed straight through the middle and the whole ground were out of their seats cheering but at the last minute it veered off and hit the post. It was hilarious. Then finally he kicked his first goal. The place went nuts. It was like Plugger kicking his 1300th. Needless to say things got a bit better after that start.

To me, Jordon is the least physically developed of the three. I was expecting him to put on a little size over the off season but has come back in much the same shape. Nietchske is quite strong in the legs and was running well in training on Monday. But i'd say Sparrow is the most AFL ready of the three, and he has great size. I'd say he's added another 3-4 kgs to his frame. I could see Jones handing over his position to Sparrow mid way through next season.

That's all right gentlemen, I know you can't handle a difference of opinion, you must always be right

@kev martin reports are excellent

Bit more depth than mine, but then again we get a cross section of opinion/observation, isn't that right?

Only thing I don't like, is blokes being derogatory about a players ability, when they have never played at AFL level, at least the player is having a crack at AFL level,  perfect example is Omac, but then again you can post what you like anonymously

On Spargo, they had his boot off, looking at the top of foot, so not sure

Sorry that's a pretty inane comment.

People have opinions all the time about sports they haven't played. Doesn't make them invalid. There are over 700 accredited media in the AFL and I estimate probably around 70 have played the game. So what? Some are good commentators some are bad.

Pro tip: If you don't like reading other peoples opinions don't go on to a football fan site.

I have no issue with an opinion, it is where the words spud or useless are used

I get as frustrated as others sometimes, but the player is having a crack, think some use it to make themselves feel better

They are soon found out

As for the media, gave Mark Stevens a complete piece of rubbish last year, he was so close to actually going with it

Media = next headline these days

I go to training I watch the players having a crack

I’d be interested in how tall and heavy Sparrow and Jordon are now. Jordon was 6’1 when drafted so he could have easily added a few cms and kgs making it harder to look ripped as he still developing.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
