Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Speak for yourself, just because people don't bag the club does not mean they accept the performances of the club

Not to mention there is bugger all we can do about it anyway.

The maximum list size is 47 which figure includes up to 3 Category B rookies. You don’t draft Category B rookies - you select them if they fit the criteria.

The discussion about drafting is limited to the primary list and Category A rookies of which we can have a total of 44 (currently at 39).

I will need to look further, but I have a feeling the total list number is no longer set at 44 and is variable. So potentially another 5 senior players and 2 rookies, making a total of 47 including our 1 cat B.

Edit - Just to clarify, you're quite likely right, just saying I will look into it more so I can be accurate going forward.

I don’t know how that’s possible without further delistings (unlikely) as we have 35 on the primary list and 4 rookies making 39 of a possible 44.

Yep, I thought it had changed late in 2017, but the most recent rule book I can find is from just before then and states it as you have put it above pretty much.

In saying that, there's still the opportunity to take Brown as a DFA. Should we take him, then Bennell as a rookie (as has been mentioned in media reports), it still leaves us with the mandatory 3 draft picks/spots.

So it looks like we’ve gone off Murray and are looking at Brown now.

In his draft year, Mentone Grammar’s Brown was bit of a rival to Brighton Grammar’s Jack Watts. I think he almost upstaged Watts when he represented the AGS against the APS so it would be somewhat ironic if Brown’s career ended in the red and blue.

If we get this guy, what, will he get $250-280k?

Watts would have stayed for what 470-500?  Howe for an extra 50k on his current contract I am told unreliably.

I think the extra 220k gives you more flexibility.

I just can't work out the overall strategy and big-picture here?  When you get rid of treasure and lure in trash, you have no choice but to gamble big (Bennell/Murray) and scrape the bottom of the barrel until your finger nails bend backwards.

I can smell....a big rebuild in 12 months time and....

Clarko or Ross Lyon - 6 year deal 2021/2/3/4/5/6.  Ross Lyon + EI = flag.

People are talking like this bloke is a complete potato.

He did manage 3 goal 20+ possession games in consecutive weeks/wins over Brisbane and North back in April. And he also managed a 4 goal 25 possession 9 mark game at Adelaide oval on a Friday night later in the year.

He kicked 21 goals in 16 games which is serviceable. How many goals did T Mac manage in his miserable 16 games this year?

That's how most footy fans react on the internet. Every player is either a superstar or a complete dud, there is no in between apparently.

If he was 26 then i would be all for it. But he will be 30 next year and if we are just bringing him in for depth only then I'd like at Josh Walker who is still only 26 years of age, solid body and someone who has had an impact up forward and back.

Sure, but he kicked 21 in a team that played finals (albeit briefly). How many would he have kicked with the way our mids delivered the ball?

I'm not against picking him up to increase depth. But at nearly 30, how long are we realistically going to have him on the list? One year, max.

Solid backup at the very least.

Agree, take him Weeds well you never know what ur gonna get. he would want to show sustained improvement in 2020 otherwise we will struggle to kick goals. Take Brown for Insurance I reckon and he might just surprise

We lost our number 1 KPF in Hogan, then lost the depth of Pedo and T Smith couldn't get on the park. We were essentially 3 tall forwards down last year and haven't addressed this hole yet.

We've got depth down back now, so I expect Petty to be shifted forward more. We need that forward depth, so signing Brown makes sense. He's nothing to get excited about, but he fills a need for us in terms of tall forward depth and a proven goal kicking option.

You would get at least 2 years out of him and turns 30 at end of next season.

There was something about Weid in rehab, from a hip cleanout and that could be a big factor with Brown, as he would be extra cover for a late start by Sam.

Not sure why all the angst towards Brown. He has proved over the last couple of years to be a good back up option for Essendon especially whilst Daniher has been missing. He would be more than capable of been a back up, put it this way his a better option than what Tim Smith would have been

Hi TGR. I'm still interested in your response to the above question. I, too, would like to know what you meant with the above. And, while you're at it, who's the trash? Or am I just wasting my time expecting you to substantiate your commentary?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
