Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Splitting of Pick 8

DeGoey grew & really filled out after being drafted. There was no way of knowing that would happen. Roos suggested that if he had known this would happen, the Dees may have drafted him.

Where there's smoke there's fire. I can't remember any recent surprises at the pointy end of the draft that contradicted the media's rumours about our picks. e.g it was rumoured we weren't keen on Mccartin and would go Petracca and Braysure. Same with Oliver over Parish.

I think the last completely random high pick was Gysberts? Cook doesn't count as we were trying to get Lynch.

I’d like to start by saying I love Angus and am a massive fan, I’m not put off him by his output this year for we’ve seen what he’s capable of. I was disappointed when his name was throw up at trade time, I actually think he’s done more to date than Petracca but that’s another discussion for another day. This also isn’t a retrospective should of / could of....

I just thought at the the time (from what I’d read and heard on the radio) that Roos was heavily into DeGoey. I would of thought the recruiters have been tracking these players for years and have a list of needs from the coaching department but ultimately the coach has the final say as he’s normally the first to go when the club isn’t performing.

At the moment are we into Jackson as much as the media / draft commentators are? For many on here it’s a forgone conclusion, so far the interview that was posted on here last week Jackson, Young and someone (can’t remember) were all being considered at pick 3.

That's the first I've heard of any link between Roos and DeGoey. Are you sure there was any connection at draft time, not just the Sundance Kid rewriting history? We were linked to McCartin as part of the clear top 3 choices and that was it.

What we do know is that Roos had a relationship with Mark Brayshaw and was undoubtedly a fan of Angus. Big body midfielder, good family, it's all the stuff Roos preaches. He had trained with the club as part of the AFL Academy.

The Jackson link to pick 3 started with Cal Twomey reporting about a month ago that his name kept coming up with Melbourne. This was when he was around the 10 mark in most rankings and mock drafts. Jason Taylor then included him in the names he liked at pick 3 on the podcast - given Twomey had already reported it there was little point denying it whether true or not.

Before all of that the draft media were pushing Young and Serong as the pick 3 candidates. I don't know for sure that we are picking Jackson but everything is leaning that way and I don't think it's because the media has influenced our choice.

The fact that several draft commentators have now moved Jackson up their rankings or linked them with us is because it's either true or they are all lemmings, but it's wrong to suggest our recruiters are suddenly swayed by media projections.

I reckon it's more likely a strategic falsity being planted by our recruiting team and FD to enable us to take our real target in Green. Mere speculation though at this stage. Will be interesting to see who we go with.

Wonder whether they are considering moving down from 10 and strengthining hand next year, leaving 28 as is. Maybe Geelong at 14 or GC at 15 for a future pick of some sort. Not sure what future picks those 2 own?

Doubt it given we gave up heaps to get out of next year’s first round and into this year’s

Lever was very heavily considered here due to Paul Roos rating his leadership ability. Roos compared him to Paul Kelly and Brett Kirk in terms of leadership and his ability to have a huge influence in terms of driving a positive team culture.

I believe the failed Trengove swap with Richmond was to be able to select Lever.

Mathew Kruzer and Nic Nat

Agree on NicNat (finally, but for years he was for me limited to  a highlight reel. His impact on games when fit now is excellent).

Not so much on Kreuzer. He has never dominated they way big blokes are supposed to and it's been a long time since the K Cup. (We weren't even tanking then! They were.)

Meanwhile Buckenara (far from my most favourite person) has Jackson at 17 in the Hun today, although it's unclear if that is how he rates him or where he thinks he will go. I think it's the former. Maybe he's setting us up for a bagging when we pick the kid. I don't pretend to know better than those who watch these kids for a living but LJ makes me nervous. I'd be happier if he was a Victorian or Tasmanian, or even from SA. But once with us home is a long way off.

In Twomey's latest phantom (and he seems to have got the ball rolling on Jackson during the Taylor draft interview) he writes: "Jackson will be the first ruckman to be picked inside the top 10 since 2011 when he has his name called, with the West Australian expected to head to Demonland.

Thought it was strange, as it's not a commonly used phrase. Made me think he'd been reading the forums.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
