Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The more you post, the more I think the first word of your username is superfluous.

Ha ha Gee that response has had a lot of thought?

I feel that the answers to our disarsterous season are not overseas. Maybe spending more time of developing our game plan & improving our skill level across the board may show significant short term improvement, rather than jetting off overseas looking for the answers.

That's just me.....& happy to cop the criticism for it. Not sure Simon Goodwin can afford the luxury of travelling o/seas for a so called development searching trip. He's no Alistair Clarkson.

Maybe you could contribute your thoughts on where our improvement should be & perhaps what they are going to find so far away?

Listening to Neil Balme on SEN this morning was a salutary lesson on just how the modern day coach needs to change, as well as general management practices of any AFL club.  Hence Richmond's recent success, when not long before, they were seen as a basket case, with moves behind the scenes to remove the President and Board in one fell swoop.

Maybe that is what Goody and co are searching for during their O/S trip.  Hardwick did a similar thing before the 2017 season.  I say, give it a crack.

Goodwin needs to change (by his own admission), Buckley has, Hardwick has. How Goodwin changes will be critical to our club.

With his shiny new team of coaches everything has to go right.

these  trips can be valuable and probably even better that he's doing it with Richo. They need to be on the  same Page because if we are 0 and 4 all hell could break loose.

I agree - I have no issue with them going to the US to obtain knowledge from other professional sports, bond with each other etc.

But I really hope the real learning is derived from looking just across the road at clubs like Richmond and Collingwood, where the head coaches learnt not to squeeze it so damn tight and trust and believe in those around them.

Load of BS.  Off to America for PD.  Again, a load of BS.

[censored] America.  Jesus bloody Christ, go and get some [censored] PD from the Hawthorn Footy Club FFS, or Richmond, or West Coast.   Imagine the furrowed, inquisitive brow of Goodwin when he has an equivalent 'leadership' course educated yank coach talking about how they drive culture and standards and all that other [censored] that flows out goodwins boring [censored], uninspired, 'leading' voice.  The truth is, US professional sports franchises don't carry on with all this 'leadership' BS.

Speaking of poor coaches, ran into Mark Neeld on the weekend.  He is running the Geelong United Basketball Club.

Continuously trying to develop and complicate the gameplan stifles the players and bogs them down. Goodwin needs to pull back a bit and let the players play to their strengths, just "trying harder" isn't going to help anyone. Getting away and learning from different organisations offers fresh perspective and can help blow away the cobwebs.

From the outside it appears that both Hardwick and Buckley took some time to transition from the ruthless mindsets they had as players to the renaissance men they have become as coaches. Both were given the required time to do this (but only just) and their respective clubs are now better for it as a result. Personally, I think Goody was a little further down this road at the time he joined us which gives me hope that we won't have to wait quite as long to see the benefits.

Yes the fact he is going with Richo is good. 24/7 talking about how to make it work, strategies, tactics, leadership etc

A clear plan hopefully with a strategy of how to execute it and engage everyone else around you.

Goodwin’s trip would’ve been meticulously  planned with Mahoney like any decent performance development plan is in any serious organisation. This is about Goodwin’s personal growth to make him a better coach, leader, mentor, etc.

People who scoff at this and label it a junket are quite frankly, imbeciles.

Buckley had taken Collingwood backwards for 6 consecutive years, before he was told to ease off the players, evidently by Maxwell, because they were miserable.

Tigers were a basket case, couldn’t win a final, even in the year they broke through2017, remember a loss they had against GWS mid season, snatching defeat from arms of victory in last couple of minutes, due to lack of leadership, & defensive frailties! End of 16 supporters tried to overthrow the board.

Sometimes, a few minor changes can have a major impact, add a little luck with injuries and the draw, or just a hot streak of form and an opportunity can open up in front of you. Dogs in 16, Tigers 17 and even Brisbane this year.

As was previously mentioned in many sports get your defensive structure correct, don’t over complicate the game plan for the players, improve your skills, keep pressure up across the field and you can go close!

1. Our backline maintaining a defensive structure should be one of the things that change, and 2. our mids covering a lot more ground defensively. Richo at St Kilda exploited both so will pass on learnings and Burgess plus recruitment of Langdon and Tomlinson should help with the second.

Add a few wins and some confidence and we just might get a pleasant surprise in 2020.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
