Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cornes Staggered By Dees Decisions

While a 5 year contract until 2024 seems high to some, remember that he will be a Restricted Free Agent at the end of 2022 when he can walk to any club and we get a compensation draft pick which would most likely be in round 2: #25 to 40 range!.  At least this way we can avoid the FA angst and keep him for 2 years beyond.

Our young talent is getting increasingly closer to the UFA date.  Salem and Hunt are UFA's at the end of 2021.  Petracca and Brayshaw at the end of 2022.  Oliver and Weideman in 2023.

The challenge for our list management is not only to manage the salary cap for all but to also ensure that our best players do not walk away as FA's right when we need them to contended for finals and premierships.  And 2021-2024 is that window!

If we need to give them an extra year or two contract terms to achieve that and to lock them in, hey I'm all for it.  Especially if we can't give them top dollar.

I must say I've never really awarded Kane Cornes too many ticks in the credibility column.

What the [censored] is wrong with locking up a proven very good player?

The Lord of the Manor has arisen from his reverie!  Or enforced holiday? Your somewhat weird humour is needed.  Welcome back!

MFC did not give him a 5 year contract but extended the current contract ending 2020 for 4 years.

By the way how may premierships teams did Cornes coach or did he ever work in list management?

He's a firemen but maybe he likes to light fires under supporters for his amusement.

So tell us which soft tissue issues we had in 2019?  Then compare that with Collingwood for example.

So tell me which other club, professional or amateur, allowed players with diagnosed soft tissue pathology to return on the field, when the game was either a dead rubber or over.

Joel Smith...May...Viney

Elliott has the dicky hammys over a long period.  Same with Ben Reid.  Elliott went to Germany 12 months ago, and little wonder he didn’t come here.  It is not the high tech placebo stuff that I prefer with Collingwood; it is the basics that we didn’t get right; starting with Viney’s foot years ago.

Like a bricklayer who can’t even get the mortar right.

MFC has locked in Harmes, hence eliminated any threat of losing him at end of 2020. Maybe backended the contract to free up salary cap space for potential short term future deals. Glass half full or half empty.

Fair bit of shooting the messenger here. In the AFL media you are encouraged to make provocative statements. The fact that Cornes does this regularly shouldn't mean we all get our knickers in a twist... Cornes hates Goodwin, Cornes never coached, Cornes is a [censored]... He's just a guy with an opinion. No different to us. Relax.

Cornes and his ilk are simply part of the footy talk industry. They are paid to provide opinions. They construct these opinion pieces on the back of a theme or a few issues. An exercise in creative writing nothing more.

Footy talk is just a microcosm of the media at large. Turn on any electronic device and news programs have become a cacophony of talking heads all voicing and shouting opinions, no different than the boys in the pub.

Their opinions are no more valid than any supporter or footy fan. And they are only contracted because they are ex-players not because they are more intelligent, or better informed or have more insight than the bloke in the pub. In most cases they are less intelligent and have less insight than the bloke in the pub.

Comments are made to create a reaction and stir up discussion. And the businesses that engages these bods demand comments and articles that provoke. And the agent provocateur usually can achieve that simple aim. It’s not hard given the insatiable appetite that the mob has for this crap. And we are part of the mob. Reacting, commenting, becoming outraged with people and issues that we should ignore.

Cornes is second rate let’s face it. And that is probably being kind.

As Ron stated earlier, the decision to recruit May and Lever were good decisions at the time. No one criticised the decisions at the time, indeed it was the opposite. We had become a destination club.  Other clubs were chasing them and presumably  were prepared to pay big coin. They were recruited for strategic reasons as part of a plan. The fact that they have spent most of the time on the sidelines does not make the decision to recruit them poor. But so much opinion is based on hindsight, which is stock in trade for Cornes and the footy scribes (never call them experts).

The Harmes deal is arguable but there is no doubt that if he has another good season other clubs would have gone after him. There is not a contract negotiated that is without risk.

My only criticism is the Frost decision and that is debatable. In short, there are differing opinions. With Frost only time will tell.

Couldn't agree more !!!!!!!!

No matter what kernels of truth may or may not exist in what this guy says, he is nothing more than a troll.

He says what he needs to say to deliver clicks, shares, comments and other engagement to his employer.

I honestly don't mind Cornes. He isn't concerned about taking calls from supporters to abuse him over something he said or got wrong. He also needs to say something provocative to have something to discuss.

Re his Harmes comment I think he needs to up his game. Rather than say "I don't think Harmes is worth a 5 year deal" he should double down and say "and I'm willing to fight him in the Octagon to prove it.".

History repeats?

Journo is critical of the MFC.

MFC supporters and the club go ape-droppings, shoot the messenger, and basically ridicule the journo.

MFC invariably fail and end up a laughing stock.

Journo invariably proven correct...again.

Couldn't hack it as a firefighter where you quickly get found out for being an O2 thief .

Wouldn't have liked being lambasted when his ego got in the way.

Much easier in the media where you can say what you like and have pot shots with impunity.

It has to be said - if he deprives a fire of O2 by being an O2 thief himself, he would indeed be quite an effective firefighter

Cornes drank too much SA water and fluoridated his brain.

??? This make no sense. All capital cities have fluoride and it is monitored to be at levels too low to affect brain function. Apart from that his statement was only a little off the mark and made a lot of sense on some questions.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
