Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2020 AFL Fixture

Demonland

It's a favourable fixture for us. Decent from both a game fixture and financial position.

Unless we absolute [censored] the bed again, we should win 12+ games, which means finals are realistic. It's up to the coaches now to create a different gameplan and not stubbornly stick to something outdated that is not working.

All things considered it’s not that bad, considering next year is our away ANZAC and QB games we cannot afford a repeat of last season. Lots of Sunday games but if we’re being honest besides Melbourne supporters no one wants to watch us play at the moment.

Don’t mind it, a few short turnarounds which aren’t ideal but hopefully the new fitness staff get recovery right. 4 finalists from 19 in the first 7 rounds, get cracking boys.

Add a trip down the highway as another certainty in Life. Hope we smash Ess in R7 on our turf as the away team.

From a financial standpoint, it is awful. Most of our MCG home games are against low drawing interstate sides. If we have another poor season we're going to be back where we were in 2013 with 13k people going to watch Melbourne vs GC.

We were awful this year and this fixture reflects that.

Looks pretty average for the $$$, only playing Pies and Tigs (Carlton maybe) at the G as big drawing teams.

Geez Gill really wants little Gaz to be cherry ripe for the finals,

As per usual Geelong get kissed on the proverbial - only 2 interstate games after round 11 (Port and Brissy) they have 6 at GMBHA including 3 in a row in rounds 19,20,21 and 4 out of 5 in rounds 19-23 (exhausting trip to Marvel and the Saints in round 22) and then the remaining games split between the G and Marvel (the G is not an away game for them - they play there 5 times in the season)

We have a similar run against the Eagles. The only time we are the home team against them is in the NT. Since 2010 we've only played them at the G twice

Some other inexplicable quirks:

  1. Including next year, only 1 of our last 11 games against Adelaide has been at the MCG (2016). That does include four home games in the NT though.
  2. We haven't played Brisbane twice in a year since 2013.
  3. Next year is only our third home game against Carlton since 2008 - 11 of the last 13 games we've played have been their home game.
  4. Next year's away game against Essendon will make it 14 of the last 16 games between us as their home game.
  5. We haven't played Essendon twice in a season since 2005.
  6. We haven't played GWS at Giants Stadium since 2014.

We're hosting Anzac Eve and Queens Birthday plus a home game against Carlton. Plus the bank from our NT home game vs Adelaide. Pretty good from a financial standpoint.

Don't think so.

Of our TEN Sunday games a max of 4 are in the FTA time slot, if Ch7 schedule all the Sunday 3.20 games.  That is really horrible for sponsors.  We have no Thursday or Saturday night games so no sponsor exposure there either.

The extra game at the G for losing Darwin will really cost as we lose the NT money and will be lucky to break even on the replacement game at the G, as they are are all against low drawing or i/state sides.  Hawks is a big club but their fans don't go to ho-hum games.

Also, I don't see this as a draw that will attract many new members.  In fact we may struggle to keep those that we have.  Other than Rich and Coll there are very few Home games in the 'must-go-to-as-it-will-be-a-ripper' category.

As an aside, losing Darwin has not benefited us at all from a travelling view as go i/state 7 times.  So we still have 3 long haul flights: 2 to Perth and 1 to Alice.  I'm pretty sure the NT games have counted as 2 long-haul games.  Next year the Darwin trip has been replaced with an additional trip to Perth.  iirc correctly we don't usually travel i/state 7 times (6 away + Alice).

I think our draw is ok. 3 Friday night games is a bonus. Sunday footy is back for us which was always going to be the case.

I do get why the draw is worked around the big clubs playing in prime time but it is still annoying to get shuffled off to Geelong and Hobart each year.

Two things I don't understand about the draw -

-  Why is round 23 floating when there is a pre finals bye in place

 - And why can't we play all 17 teams in the first 18 weeks of the season (19 with a bye week)? We play Geelong, Sydney, Carlton and North Melbourne for the first time in the last 5 weeks of the season. I believe 7 out of the 9 Round 23 games see teams play each other for the first time for the season.

Take me back to the way it used to be where every team played each other once first then the double up games.

Anzac Day & QB’s are ours so didn’t  have that financial bonus in 2019 ??

OK it was last year. But we're 3 home v 14 away against them since 2005.

If we're any good next year, and we need to be, then we can get plenty of exposure from:

  1. the away Friday night game vs Brisbane
  2. the Saturday twilight game away to Geelong
  3. the three game MCG stretch of Sydney, Collingwood and Carlton in Rounds 20-22.

Remember, in Round 21 2017 we drew 53,115 to our 1.10pm Sunday home game against St Kilda at the G. Both sides were pushing for finals.

Just going off the totals it's actually pretty fair. Hawks and dogs probably a bit higher than deserved and Saints and Giants unlucky but overall reasonable balance of performance vs big money clubs

That is chicken feed exposure to a sponsor.  And does nothing for improved memberships.

Of the 3 games in round 20-22 only the Sydney game will be FTA.

Pies twice. One being tbe qb game. And bombers - though not as home team. Tiger's anzac game is on a Friday night and if we have a good start to the season we might get 85k.  Not so bad.

If Geelong want to play Home finals at GMBHAXYZ Stadium then they should be stripped of all Home games at the G during the year.

Not bad. Not sure why we have to get nth again in r23 in hobart but looks like that will be a game to go to, turn it into a few days of a holiday.

See we have to play geelong again down there. In the middle of winter saturday twilight. Yuck. At least make it in autumn or spring. The only way to stop this is for melbourne to become consistent keep winning and the crowds come. Why can't we play geelong at our ground for once.

Not a headline I wanted to see though that essesncum have been gifted a favourable draw to.

Is there any chance Geelong can actually play the last round away from GMHBA stadium. They have played at GMHBA stadium in the last round every year since 2012 onwards. This 1 reason i believe there finals record has been crap since as they have too much of a soft kill.

I think that game coincides with the olympics so it will probably not be on the main channel

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
