Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2020 AFL Fixture

An extremely favourable fixture.

First half of the year especially.

Absolutely zero excuses not to make finals next year and I expect a top 6 finish minimum.

We do open with West Coast (away), GWS and Richmond within the first six weeks, along with a second road trip (but to the Gold Coast).

But the period between ANZAC Eve and Queen's Birthday (Essendon, Port, Adelaide, the Dogs, Hawthorn, all at the G except Adelaide in Alice Springs) is nice.

It is always foolhardy, though, to look at opponents in October and forecast difficulty in the following year. No doubt some sides who did well in 2019 will fall back and some who struggled will improve.

We manage to play Cats in Geelong again. Anyone know when we last played them at the G when playing them once for the season?

2 home games from the last 12 fixtures not including the final.

Why is that a negative?

There was a kick in it in our round 22 game and we were operating at about 60% rat power.

With a reasonable list that translates to a 5 or 6 goal win.

Because North very rarely lose over there and we always end up losing by under a goal

And we also came within a whisker of winning down there a few years back when there was a massive gale blowing to one end.

We play that ground quite well.

Agree. If we can snag one of the first two games (both tough - though i well pleased we play the giants at the g not up there) we can bank a few before half way i think.

I also expect a top 6 finish.

However if we to have the injuries and more importantly the number of players in rehab next season as we did this season we won't make the finals. not an excuse per se. But a reason.

That said i simply can't see it happening. For one thing i have only heard of one player going in for post season surgery (Oliver i thought but it could be another player) and the players will have had an extended break to get fresh and ready.

The Geelong away game is ridiculous. There's no commercial justification for it either. We'd get more at the G against them than they would down at the Cattery.

I'm all for the game being a commercial beast, but this particular fixturing is neither fair or commercially just.

How we allow the AFL to do this to us every year is beyond me. A disgraceful permanent feature of our draw.

Fine with all of that given what we dished up in 2019

..except...

The rediculous 3.45 start in Perth first up likely to be in insane heat.  Why not start it at 7.30 and avoid the sun factor?

Boys will lose so much weight and conditioning in that one match alone they'll be stuffed the following week.

Becomes a must win or we more than likely go 0-2 after GWS at home.

2014.

Including our 2020 game there, it will be 10 of the last 13 home and away games between the clubs at Kardinia Park. One of the other three games was Geelong's 2017 home game against us at Marvel, too.

So of our last 13 home and away games vs Geelong, they've been the home side 11 times.

2 things guaranteed every year. A game in Geelong and 2 games against the Saints

2014 also the last season we didn't play St Kilda twice.

They want home games against Victorian sides down there.

The AFL won't send Collingwood, Essendon, Hawthorn or Richmond down there.

The Dogs, North and St Kilda are all being sent down there next year as well as us. Carlton avoids it next year but has been there the last two seasons.

Until the AFL sends the four bigger clubs down there, we're going to keep getting sent there.

This is where the smart coach thinks about week 2.

Preuss to play so Gawn is not exhausted etc etc

a 0-2 start would see our season under the pump.

We have a similar run against the Eagles. The only time we are the home team against them is in the NT. Since 2010 we've only played them at the G twice

From a financial standpoint, it is awful. Most of our MCG home games are against low drawing interstate sides. If we have another poor season we're going to be back where we were in 2013 with 13k people going to watch Melbourne vs GC.

We were awful this year and this fixture reflects that.

We're hosting Anzac Eve and Queens Birthday plus a home game against Carlton. Plus the bank from our NT home game vs Adelaide. Pretty good from a financial standpoint.

Win one of the first 2 and that could be a positive change. Is North and us now the round 23 feature game ?

I bloody hope not. I mark it down as the most miserable game of the year every year. The only thing we get out of it is wind-burn.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
