Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Interestingly today's draft is a state-based one, so if players nominate Victoria, they can either choose the Melbourne Metro zone (every team except Geelong), Geelong or the entire state.

If players nominate Queensland, they can either choose a zone of residence (Brisbane or Gold Coast) or the whole state.

Every year the girls look (and probably are) fitter, stronger and better skilled.

I used to get embarrassed at the skill level watching AFLW when the comp started, but every one of these girls nowdays plays footy better than i ever did. I reckon they are also tougher at the contest lols. Guess it was only a matter of time, and they will just keep getting better.

Humble pie time.

Welcome to MFC.

Remember reading on the MFC website the other day Luci we recruited Libby Birch at the expense of Pick 8. Trade perhaps? Not sure about our second round pick though.

We traded our first and third round picks for Libby Birch. We lost our second round pick because we retained the player (Casey Sherriff) we picked up as compensation for losing Daisy Pearce last year - not really clear on the rationale behind that one.

Given that we lost players to both Victorian expansion clubs and have come in so far down the draft list, I really don't see how we can hope to improve this year. Having Pearce back will be great, but she hasn't played for a while, whilst the pressure will be on Birch to perform.

Thank you.

Bulldogs got 2 first round picks for losing Kate Brennan and another player to start up clubs.  Last year we lost several players to start up clubs and got nothing picks.  And it seems wrong to give up a second round pick for Sheriff.  I would have thought our last pick in the draft would be more appropriate, if any as we used the Daisy comp pick for her last year.

Like you I'm not optimistic of finals, especially if the AFL use the silly Conference system again and we end up in the difficult side like last year.

I was wondering the same thing with the first few rounds.  Were they used on the Irish girls as well?

The Irish players are rookies so we didn't use any picks to get them. Freebies! The lack of early picks was basically due to expansion and our trade for Birch.

The Daisy thing kind of makes sense to me. We lost her, got Sherriff as her replacement. To bring Daisy back, we either had to get rid of Sherriff or use a pick to keep her. Based on her VFLW form, I think worth it for a known quantity.

It's hard to know how we'll go next year. St Kilda and Richmond's lists have essentially played together in the state league; less the case for West Coast and Gold Coast. Brisbane and Freo were ravaged by expansion. As were the Bulldogs, but they've got the cream of the crop in the draft, players that might have immediate impact like Prespakis this year. The Pies come in off a VFLW Premiership and looked very strong at that level - will it translate?

As for us, we do have one of the most stable lists and have been on the edge of finals each year. Never forget that we had more H&A wins than the Runner-up this year! Still, we'll certainly need some players to step up because the standard continues to rise. I have zero concerns about Birch though.

I can see the thinking behind the players we got at the draft, which is reassuring! I love that Colvin's highlight reel is pretty much bumps and tackles.

It was good also to see a couple of Casey players get picked up: co-captain Garner and Bentvelzen.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
