Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sumich was his coach, of course hes going to talk him up,.

We arent drafting this kid, its all a ruse to get Freo to pay through the nose for pick 3.

And Sumich seems to have an axe to grind with Freo so he may just be playing nasty so Freo miss out on him or as you say pay up big for pick 3.

Taking a ruckman with a top ten pick would be almost as stupid as taking a midget with a top ten pick. Have a look at where the likes of Nankervis and Lycett, the most recent premiership ruckmen, were taken in the draft, to say nothing of all the decent ruckmen changing clubs for third and fourth round picks in trade week.

The chances of finding a top class ruckman in the draft are miniscule - we have simply have to find two 200 game players with our top ten picks.

Who's to say Jackson won't play 200 games plus?

He is a very good player.

I'm very nervous that we are going to take him with pick 3.

History says taking talls in the top 10 is a 50/50 proposition at best... going with small/medium type players is a much safer bet.

I also think it's better to trade or pick up mature key talls as free agents rather than draft them.

I'm really hoping we take Young with pick 3 and then if Jackson is there at 8 then go for it.

FYI my brother is mates with Luke Jackson so I'll do my best to get inside gossip....

I assume if we take Jackson at pick 3, Taylor (the professional recruiter as opposed to us keyboard amateurs)  believes that he'll clearly end up being among the 5 best players taken in the 2019 draft after his career is done and dusted.

Isn't the art of recruiting is to identify a player that has what it takes it to be a genuine AFL player down the track, not just pick a kid who dominates against other kids?

That being said, it certainly appears to be a ballsy move if we pick Jackson, and Taylor would seriously need to nail at least one of pick 3 or 8.

We'd almost have to win the flag to ever get in the conversation for signing a gun tall as a free agent. They come around so rarely and usually go to the best clubs who have won flags. Lynch - Rich, Buddy - Syd even Frawley to Hawthorn.

Trading for talls, sure, but May and Lever are also about as good as we've ever done there.

Trading for depth rucks is easy, trading for a Grundy style game changing ruck isn't.

The only reason Jackson is in the conversation for pick 3 is because they think he could be a game changing level of talent. If they really are confident in that assessment then they have to pick him.

Taylor has said on the podcast that he doesn’t see Jackson as a pure ruck, but as a key forward and ruck. He was glowing of his continued improvement post-champs, especially up forward.

He’s certainly a unique talent. Young is a solid, meat and potatoes choice as a high level role player at half back. This is where it’s hard to select ‘best available’. Who is better, the high floor solid half back whose ceiling is known, or the unique but very raw key forward ruck whose base is low but ceiling is much higher?

I think I hope that we pick Jackson .... just to watch this place burn to the ground on draft night! ?

Shades of Mick Turner by Sumich here, I just don't see anything overly special about Jackson. And that kicking action really has me worried from a KPF point of view.

Pass.

When you think about it when have Dees ever worried about a recruits disposal?

NOT EVER who????

If we were to pick by disposal skill Young and Stephens would fit our needs both good disposal as part of pptheir highlights !!

I’m really warming to the idea of Jackson.

Losing Tim Smith and Frost, we’re down a couple of talls. I know we picked up Tomlinson, but I’ve also written off Pruess.

Just makes sense for list balance. Bradtke will take time, but also looks more likely to end up a forward. Gawn won’t be around forever.

And if not, it’s just another nudge to GWS to give us a proper return for pick 3.

Why write off Pruess ?

Reckon at his age he is just coming into his prime and his tank may well be perfect with 9 or so kg off his frame That's serious stuff and a gamechanger on his already good talent. He was getting tired after his first run in the ruck each quarter so his ability to pace himself for a full game now should be no Problem.

Time will tell but Jackson must have an X factor IMO to be taken st No 3 and his ground ability plus his jumping  might be this I imagine.

Dont think he will get through to 8 now for us.

Could be bluffing of course !!

Jackson will almost be undersized if he went into the ruck (unless he grows significantly), and up forward his kicking would make him a liability at accuracy (like Casboult).

He does a few things ok, but masters none, whilst displaying the dreaded word of potential (another way of saying he hasn’t achieved it yet).

Bring in players with already established qualities.

Most clubs made a mistake passing on Grundy and letting him slip to 18. But this bloke is no Grundy.

100% do not take a chance on a tall ruck fwd unless they are a athletic freak and gun

Which Jackson is exactly. So you're already wrong.

You've already made a stupid statement not long ago questioning Harley Bennell mental state on the back of no evidence.

I'll back our recruitment team any day over some random who clearly has no idea.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
