Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

To be fair to @Axis of Bob, the AFL's coverage might well start today. I wouldn't put it past them.

It does in a sense, from 2pm today Twomey, Beveridge and Cleary will be doing a live stream panel discussion including interviews with draftee prospects and club officials.

Here's the line up if anyone is interested in watching.

Tuesday's line-up:

2.20pm - Sam Walsh (Carlton)
2.45pm - Hamish Ogilvie (Adelaide)
3.10pm - Adrian Caruso (Greater Western Sydney)
3.30pm - Cody Weightman
4pm - Kinnear Beatson (Sydney)
4.15pm - Caleb Serong and Sam Flanders
4.30pm - Stuart Dew (Gold Coast)

Surely being from WA, if he was any good, we would've had stories of drug addictions, criminal history, poor work ethic, and general bad mouthing?

Nah he's coming to us not from us. Mind you Steven Armstrong got dumped by us and went to Eagles and played in the Premiership winning team in his first year there. There's a few others better left unsaid.

Just an interesting comparison for those who are expecting him to be like Grundy.
In these highlights, Grundy shows very little follow up work or second efforts.
A better kicking action overall, but a few hacks at it when in congestion.
Regardless of what conclusion you come to from this footage, I think it's a relevant comparison.

So Max plays 90% in the ruck ( give or take..) and should and culd play another 6 years..  and we got Pruess as a back up, Jackson wont have a serious impact for minimum 2 years, he is not a natural forward at all. So why are we going to take him at pick 3?  You can never have enough good mids or skillful players.

Im not convinced on this bloke at all, im trying, im happy to take Pickett at 10, absolutely a player we need..

Is Jackson a left or right footer?

Just watching his clips again, he's kicking with both.  Some of the 'floaters' that people have been talking about are from his left, but he seems to be very adept using both sides of his body which is quite rare nowadays.

My mate, who goes for Fremantle, has been keeping a close eye on Jackson, this is what he had to say:

“If Melbourne pick up Luke Jackson at pick 3 it will be an absolute prize... he is Josh Kennedy esk in the air and Nic Nat on the ground and probably Patty Ryder in the ruck... if you haven’t watched his highlights tape, you should... he is full of talent and will dominate the comp for the next decade”

A bit over the top or does anyone share his views? Obviously I hope he’s spot on.

Nic Nat on the ground - hopefully, follows up with excellent movement and burst from packs, lays a mean tackle and kicking and marking need improvement
Ryder in the ruck - sure, sub 200cm ruck who has the leap and timing to easily compete with bigger men but isn't dominant at hit outs

Kennedy esk in the air? Not sure. He has size and he has mobility to be very dangerous on the lead like Kennedy but a ruck with limited forward experience is unlikely to match up to probably the best mark of the last decade.

Given the general consensus here is “it’s a tough one”, I’d be looking very deep into whether a kid Luke Jackson’s age is genuinely prepared and enthused to move to the other side of the country and stick it out for possibly many, many years.

None of us here could stomach watching a prospective champion leave just as he’s about to fully bloom, and I can’t help but feel the odds of this happening in this case are reasonable at the least.

If it’s a particularly tough decision to make between Jackson and Young, I would hope Young being a Victorian is a massive consideration. I’m not particularly worried about Green though. Does anybody miss Canberra?

The latest draft predictor from the Adelaide journo's has us taking Jackson at 3 and no bid on Green. Tactically GWS take Ash at 4 and Sydney make a bid for Green which GWS match  so Green goes at 5. Sydney then get pick 6(Flanders) Adelaide have 7 (McAsey) Freo 8 ( Robertson a W.A. boy) Freo have next pick 8 (Stephens) Carlton bid for Henry at 10 which Freo match. That means Freo get picks 8,9,& 10 wow. At 11 Carlton may go for Serong leaving MFC with pick 12 and in this mock draft Young is still there and so is Picket.

Some reporting today that Freo had cooled on Robertson and will take young with 7. Can't remember where I read it

Saw something similar. they're considering Young and Stephens with their two picks. Blues expected to take Stephens if Freo go for Robertson. so if we bid on Green we're likely to be able to take our pick from Ash, Kemp, Weightman, Pickett, Robertson

This Grundy kid goes alright. Any chance he slips through to 28?

That’s a really interesting video, comparing with Jackson. It shows that they are actually quite different players, especially at that age. Grundy is mobile, but he’s mobile for a ruckman, whilst he mainly relies on his really big body and beating up on midgets. Jackson’s movement for a 200cm guy is just off the charts, even by comparison with one of the AFL’s most mobile rucks.

So everything I seem to read is that he’s undersized for a ruckman but as a forward isn’t a great mark or kick. Not sure we should use pick 3.

So maybe's worth thinking of him as a mid. His stoppage work is what people are commenting on. His agility and size makes him a potential weapon at a stoppage. Don't get too caught up in the ruck label or the KPF label either. He can contribute in those two areas, but he's more likely to excel from stoppage.

I am wrong.

I read the AFL headline advertising the coverage from 2pm. Apparently that's 2pm tomorrow.

I don't know how I'm going to cope .... I'd been building to my emotional peak for this evening. I'm going to need a cold bath and some valium.

Me too. I came home early from a meeting to watch it. Popped the TV on and realised it's bloody tomorrow night! It's the AFL's Instagram page that confused me. They were banging on all day about the 2pm start. You're not alone, mate. :(

4D chess by Goody to recruit another inside mid is to simply label him a ruckman?

Sydney have said they probably won’t bid on green either

The only thing I can think of here is that Sydney don’t want to encourage teams to make high bids on academy picks given they have a few coming next year.

I think it's more likely ducks and drakes. All the clubs should be doing it 24 hours out from the draft. They're not particularly clever if they're not.

I think this is right. I expect that he'll play as a midfielder who can ruck rather than as a ruckman. He's likely an undersized ruck but an oversized mid and that could work quite well.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
