Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I've changed my mind numerous times on who to take, and whether we should split etc. constantly second guessing myself, at least i'm not a list manager.

Don't think Jackson makes much sense but could just be a smokescreen?

AM are you referring to someone in particular as the next potential Dusty or was that just a general comment re passing up on recruiting a genuine mid in this draft vs a small forward?

Nah who knows who the Dusty of this draft will turn out to be - but statistically speaking, at least a couple of the widely accepted top picks (Young, Kemp, Serong, Flanders, Robertson etc) will go on to become out and out guns (a couple will almost certainly be busts as well).

Yes, we're pretty set for purely inside mids - but Fyfe or Bontempelli would still improve our side dramatically.

Recent examples of us drafting relative 'unknowns' in the first round include Cook and Gysberts (I don't count Oliver, he was a risk at the time but nonetheless would have been picked in the top 10 if we passed him up).

No doubt we need speed, outside class and a small forward or 2, I'm just not convinced that any are top 10 material (with the possible exception of Henry). I'd take the surest bet at 3 and 8, then fill needs elsewhere.

People are quick to forget that our forwardline functioned well in 2018 with only Garlett as a genuine small forward (and he only played 11 games).

Keep it simple and draft Young and Kemp - both are extremely talented and neither are purely inside mids anyway.

For these reasons I don't believe we will be drafting him. Makes no sense on many levels. Won't be a no. 1 ruckman, too short. Apparently hasn't shown anything to indicate he will be a forward worthy of pick 3.

No idea where press are getting this from. If it's from the Club they must be spreading misinformation for a purpose. Maybe to spook Freo into a deal. Who knows. Jackson looks like a player you'd take in the late 30's or later. Too short, not skilled. Go figure.

Yep a whole 3cm shorter than Grundy thats going be the difference or not. Just put long stops and some bigger inner soles. Problem solved.

Lets not talk about his 5cm extra arm reach or his 5cm greater vertical leap though.

Apparently has shown plenty after the champs up forward playing WAFL colts. But I wouldn't know I've never seen him play one game let alone watched him play multiple times over 2-3 years.

For what it's worth it's 4cm.

Good luck to you being happy with a 199cm first ruckman. I'm not. 5cm extra arm reach and vertical leap compared to who? Grundy? Each to his own.

I've watched the highlights reel. Can't ever base much on them. Mine would be great but believe me very misleading. Ruck technique also looks very raw. The kids a project player. He could and quite possibly will be a star but then again he could be a bust along with a string of project key position players who were taken in the top 10 in the past few years.

quite so

drafting 18yo kids from school is a lottery

top 10 picks need to be taken on best available, not needs or speculation, even then there are no guarantees as we have seen time and time again

Do you think the club has looked at more than the highlights reel you've seen? There are other highlights reels that show a lot more than what's available on you tube.

Don't you think the club have watched him play multiple times, like they have with all the prospective draftees?

I've seen more footage of him play and he is very good. As are Young and Robertson and Kickett and Kemp, the club has to pick the best of them and I think they will.

Me too. But, without a shred of evidence, I think Jackson is the smokescreen.

I read elsewhere that this draft, unlike others, will be briefly best available before switching to largely needs based. It makes a bit of sense given the evenness of the draftees beyond the first few/handful.

I  like almost everyone else on here is clueless.  I’ve read a bit watched a very little bit. Don’t know more than that. It’s just ill informed opinion which is a bit of fun. Of course the Club have done their homework. The more I read the more uncertain I am of what they will do but based on the risk factor of taking tall KP’s in the top 10 and especially ones who are raw projects I very much doubt we will be taking Jackson at 3. Also on a personal level I’m seriously over watching our last top 10 KPF from WA disrupt the Club with the go home factor circus until he went home.

Podcast on AFL website with Cal Twomey & Shifter Sheahan has us taking Young & Weightman with picks 3 & 8 ??

This sounds good (or better than other combinations (if 2 x first rounders are a neat and tidy entitled 'draft receive' ) - no debts to other clubs in the future, as well. Two young fellas that we can develop and simultaneously, put development pressures on our very young and inexperienced mosquito fleet. In the last two years, we made quite a few of these selections that, for one reason or the other, have not yet matured into confident skill sets for the MFC. Then again, we had Frosty (the fastest and best) giant mosquito - so we gave him away for a few lousey bucks to recuperate  the wastefulness of the Club decision-making in the past; it's bloody sad.

One issue is the game evolves. Ten years ago small forwards were not the must. Richmond changed that. In a few years time it will be a new system.
I believe if we get it right on the park, those types of players we need at time will come. Really just need to draft the best players available.
The only exception would be key forward / ruck as they are a rarity.
I back the dees to hit back next year and if we can compliment Langdon, Bennell and Tomlinson with 2-3 ready to young guns this will be a hell of a team. Just need weeds and big Macca fit and firing.

The west would be more than happy (hoping) we take Jackson with 3 so they can mop up the talent and/or not have to use their pick 7 (Freo) to counter a bid from us on Henry.

They then sit back for a few years while he bloods himself with us then returns to the West with a few years experience and development under his belt.

Why wouldn't they (eg;  Sumich...their press chatter?) be be making such sugestions.

I have settled on Young at 3, and Serong at 8.  Jackson would need to be out of the box special to go at 3 in this draft, and so I think there are others better for us right now.  I also think 8 is so open, with Kemp, Flanders etc also potentially being available.  I think we would need to be offered way overs in value to trade down the order, and We can always have this as an option in play if the price is right - very right - to make us give up the chance to draft at 8.  The only way I see it happening is if the players we would want at 8 are already taken.

Demonlanders history has shown strong opinions and actually proven outcomes.

2014 - Petracca or McCartin.  It was a landslide for Petracca as pick 2 as we all hoped Saints would take McCartin.  CP5 has been proven and can get better. Brayshaw was a lock at pick 3. Tick. Tick.

2015 - again a tough call of Parish or Oliver. It was debated but the majority favoured Oliver at our first pick (#4 after nominating Mills). Parish was good and had skills. Oliver was strong, fast and had dominant potential.  Oliver’s selection has been well proven. Tick.

It was Weideman or Curnow.  Pick 9. The vote seemed to favour Curnow but marginally.  Curnow had been injured but was aerobically a better option. Weid was seen as the Hogan/Weid (chf/ff) for the next decade. Not quite how it’s worked. I still have faith in the Weid however he needs this year or the light is diminishing.  TBA. ?

2016,2017,2018 no first rounders due to 2015 future swap and then Lever (two 1st rounders) and May (Hogan’s pick).

So it’s 2019.
The poll shows Young #3 (elite foot skills, smart, aerial intercept) and Kemp #8 (pace, strength, versatility). These two have the vote but it’s a wider pack of options (up to 7-8 options with Stephens, Flanders, Serong, Ash, Robertson and now Jackson).

JTs comments on Jackson have seen a gold rush for him as pick 3 as a raw Natanui like aerobic ruckman. His come to AFL post basketball and is a WA product. Speculative pick but he has supporters.  Tom Green (Giants Academy) is Cripps like and if available would be absolutely the one.  I’m in for nominating Green and see what the Giants do.

I still support choice of Young who adds the elite foot skills we desperately need. He’s an excellent player who fits in.  Kemp has all the abilities of superstar potential. A future ruckrover most likely. I think we can consider a 1st round starter in 2021 (post ACL).  Wait and see now.

Really hopeful we'll get with Hayden Young. he's exactly what we need. and always get a bit nervous using high picks on interstate players with the go home culture in the AFL these days.

Very true. Young at 3. WA lads do get a big home sick and the lure of eagles is always a factor.
now Ross has left maybe freo too

Yep I voted young and serong a while back.

Young fills the obvious need of a smooth moving quality kick, he will come and replace Lewis

Serong is a mid who actually can play forward, I can see him and tracc playing rotating roles between mid and forward.

If Kemp is gone and Serong and Weightman are both available at 8, it becomes an absolute no brainer.

Young & Kemp or Young & Serong would be just reward for us supporters after such a [censored] year.

I'm not too sure on the Kemp hype however I must admit I have only seen a few highlights of the kid.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
