Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Assume the other 3% vote was for Jackson. Plenty of support now.  I’m still in the Young (elite ball use, aerial marking, leadership)  and  Kemp (pace, strength, versatility, star potential) combo. Both very impressive in champs.

I am with you completely, now we dont have 8 for Kemp Maybe Ned Flanders at 10

Not related to us but given the at least public surge of support for Luke Jackson and his potential as a player, is there any chance the Suns develop some interest in him at pick 2?

Don't think so.

Some recruiters have a mixture of Young or Jackson as the next best in the draft behind Rowell, pretty sure GC are not one of those. Anderson will be heading to GC.

I have heard some recruiters have Green behind Rowell. It would be interesting if Green went No.2. Who do the demons call? I had heard that Young will slide past Dees maybe a few spots. And recruiters from some clubs have had a few discussions on how good Noah Anderson actually is.

We’d take Anderson at 3 if he slid. IMO he’s the best prospect in this draft. He’s proven to be the best offensive weapon forward of centre. He’s a proven ball winning midfielder who can also play outside or up forward. At 190cm, 88kgs, he fits the tall midfielder prototype and is a smooth mover like Bontempelli. If he was there at 3 and we overlooked him I’d basically give up on the club ever achieving success.

I hope we would take him without batting an eye. But I did hear GWS do like Green.

I personally would be bidding on Green because i think he's close to a sure thing in terms of a quality AFL player and because it means that Ash won't be taken at pick 4 which pushes guys down

opens a very real possibility for us to get one of Ash or Young at 10.

and if they don't match we get Green and they take Jackson and those guys are still a chance to make it.

I’d take Anderson without a second thought if he was available at 3. I’m not sure about bidding on Green, I don’t think we lose out by getting him and I do hate the thought of GWS being able to get 2 top 10 players. I’m now leaning back towards my initial pick of Ash at 3. ? Glad I’m not deciding who we go for. ?

I’m going back to the game between Casey v Under 18 Australians that was played in April with the Aussies overrunning the Dees in the second half when the Casey coach took off most of his AFL listens.

At the time, most of the Under 18s were relative unknowns – today they read like a who’s who of the draft.

The standouts were Matt Rowell, Noah Anderson and Hayden Young who imposed themselves as potential top ten selections.

On review, a number of others were good in patches and outlined their potential including Tom  Green, Brodie Kemp, Jeremy Sharp, Trent Bianco and Caleb Serong but none of them put in what you would call an outstanding four quarter game. They did however, place themselves on the “to watch” list.

Since Luke Jackson and Kysaiah Pickett have been anointed by the draft mavens as the likely MFC top 10 draft picks, these are my impressions from my rewind of this game.

Jackson was one of two Aussie big men who was strong in the ruck, showed some athleticism and copped a knock in the second quarter. However, I wouldn’t go into raptures about him on that performance.

Pickett showed flashes of brilliance, was very clean and fast at ground and dribbled a nice goal through at the end. He’ll be an exciting player if he can adapt to  the game at the highest level.

However, this game didn’t do anything to convince me that either player should be selected at 3 & 10 respectively.

I'm assuming you witnessed this one live Jack as it's nowhere to be seen on video.

You don't mention Ash anywhere.  Was he in this team?

So on that basis would you would recommend a bid on Green with 3? Assuming it is matched we then nominate Young? Or?

And what would you suggest we do with pick 10?  I can't see either of Ash or Young slipping through to 10 if we don't hit them up early with 3.

Would love to hear your take pls.

It was shown on Foxtel and I recorded it. I think someone linked that game to a thread on Demonland a little while ago - I’ll try to find out.

Lachie Ash played and started really well but was quiet after half time.

I’ve been in the pro Green camp since seeing him play for the Allies but on this game, he wasn’t in the category of Rowell, Anderson or Young.

I would pick Green at 3 but it appears that we aren’t in that frame.

I noticed Green had a so so game (eg; vs SA) followed by a cracker (vs Vic Metro) where he matched Rowell and, only my op, but was the best player afield.  Imv a very good sign from this match as he was up against the best rated in Rowell and they actually spent a bit of time matched up on each other.  Would not hesitate to bid / take him with 3 either but who knows where we are at.

Young and Ash next on 'best available' imv.   Flip a coin i'd be happy to land either at 3.

You didn't mention your preference with 10?

If you can find that link to the Casey match that would be awesome pls.  Been hunting that one for a while.

Western Australia took out the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships with a five-point win over Vic Country in July.

A number of Sandgropers stood out including 179cm midfielder Liam Henry who is headed to Fremantle as part of its Next Generation Academy.

Western Australia appeared to have the game in hand when it led by 31 points but Brodie Kemp led a fantastic comeback with two late goals to put his team in front but a late WA goal stole the game back. Kemp was dynamic and put himself into top 10 calculations with his strong attack on the football. Hayden Young and Lachie Ash provided great drive off half back. Serong and Flanders were handy and did nothing to harm their draft chances.

Apart from Henry, WA mid Robertson was dynamic with 28 disposals, six clearances and eight tackles and Luke Jackson was great in the ruck showing some great all round skills.

So, on what I saw up to this game I would go for Young for pick 3 and Kemp for 10. I think Jackson would make an interesting work in progress but I wouldn’t pick him ahead of Young. If available I would still take Kemp at 10 ahead of Jackson.

The other player who impressed in the championships was Dylan Stephens.

What happened to the old adage trade in for needs, draft best available talent? All the gossip has us burning 2 top ten picks on outliers, not sure why. Jackson is not a need, a ruckman, very agile who could play forward but reports say he doesn’t have great hands. Then we are looking at Pickett who is a perceived need, an X factor small forward with speed, goal sense but rated later first round or second round. I think Taylor’s future will be determined by these 2 picks, although it’s not just him of course. I still believe we should bid for Green, take him if GWS does not match, or else take Young and then the next best at 10, be that Kemp if available.

Anyway let’s see what happens.

Jackson and Pickett are listed by most footy draft insiders in the media to be our picks.  That’s two from left field compared with the prior 10 options in this post. The 3% may hold the money after tonight. Wait and see and then pray for the next 10 years that the picks work out.

Young and Pickett.

Watching Young put his teammates into space on the G would be a sight to behold.

Pickett will get members out of theirs seats more times in during the first 4 home games than we were for the whole of last season.

Speak for yourself...the amount of times I left my seat to go and get another pint during the games this year broke national records.

My final comment before the draft itself is that I’m hoping if we do have Pickett in mind, that we split the pick and take 14 & 17 for 10 & 28.

Pickett is generally regarded as a mid 20s pick so I would take the punt on him lasting to 14 and picking up a better player at 17.

Nothing against Pickett - I just think we can do better.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
