Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

If you've got an iPhone, the NAB League app has footage of every player from every match. Not sure if it's available on Android. Probably the best way for general punter to see footage of these kids for now until the AFL website starts putting up highlights close to the draft.

Ok i have an ipad so that might do it.  Many thanks LT

That's changed now, this is an update

https://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/27802450/afl-draft-power-rankings-rowell-back-top-afl-draft-nears

There are a lot of changes but Weightman is still outside the top 20.

Flanders at 4 with a good bio.

This one has Weightman just inside top 20. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-draft-2019-top-30-prospects-draft-rankings-afl-indicative-draft-order-matt-balmers-rankings-matt-rowell-noah-anderson/news-story/cb11a9251dd6a277a028f90551d5efa4
8 out of top 10 are Victorian. I suspect even recruiters read these rankings and then pay closer attention to the higher ranked players, which is maybe why guns like Cripps, Fyfe, Grundy etc are more likely to slip down to lower picks.

It has also been said (by the interstaters) that these rankings are too vic centric and that there's a few from out west that should be higher up and are getting a bit of a short shaft.

I noticed this mature age forward from the SANFL prelim played a very nice game.  Probably a tad short for what we need but apparantly he is rated the most accurate of any pro footballer going around at the mo including at AFL level...

I reckon you take best available. That seems to be Taylor's philosophy too. Let's not go back to BP-like recruiting.

You do know we selected Jimmy Toumpas because of that philosophy.

Absolutely. This would be sensational.  Both could be absolute stars.

Young’s delivery and aerial marking are exceptional.

Kemp has all the qualities of a Dangerfield clone.  He’s worth grabbing and waiting 12 mths (if JT and Mahoney and Goody have the guts)

It’s still Young at pick 3/4 and then likely at pick 8 it’s choice of Kemp (hopefully) or Stephens or Flanders or Ash. Though likely Crows may grab Dylan Stephens first.

Not that we need another genuine inside mid but there's a smokey who got a late invite to the combine after being left out of the Vic Metro's Squad.

Not overplaying the combine but just out of interest he came 8th in the vertical jump, 1st in the 20m sprint and 6th in the yo yo.

Supposed to have blistering break away (from congestion) speed which allows him to escape outside, with the 20m combine result appearing to back this up.  Something we truly lack with our core insiders at the moment and something i've been calling for us to address (as a weakness) for quite some time now.

I notice he was selected as an 'around the mark' player for the Aints in the Twomey article up there.

I'll try and check for some highlights off the NAB app tomorrow.  Some on Bomblitz are rating him in their top prospects (with Essendrug needing inside mids).

Anyone seen him up close who can shed some light i wonder?

Sam Philp

An inside midfielder with great speed, Philp has transformed his game to develop more hurt factor as the season went on, becoming a premier midfielder in the NAB League while many of his contemporaries were off with Metro or Country duties. When they returned he matched it with the best of them and could be one of the feel-good stories of the draft given he missed out on Metro selection. Just bullocks his way through stoppages and is hard to stop around the ground. His strong season was rewarded with a National Draft Combine invitation, meaning at least four clubs like what they saw in 2019.

A cautionary tale on Draft prognostications. There's the good, the bad and the ugly in here:

The best player out of the 2017 draft was a mature age recruit with a chequered history and he went in the 20s.

Last year, two of the best recruits were undrafted (Stack) and a mid-season draftee who had been in prison (Pickett).

If we are considering 8 for Weightman, wouldn’t it make sense to just bid pick 3 on Henry to [censored] up freo. We consider 3-8 being of the same quality anyway. Pick 3 Henry (Best small forward in the draft) and 8 on Stephens or Kemp.

I prefer Henry/Stephens over Weightman/Young.

Worse case it will chew up Freos pick 7.

Sometimes, the experts just get it wrong. Worpel was considered a solid footballer as a 16 to 18 year old but the perception out there was that he was too slow. As a result, he fell out of favour but he’s worked very hard under Clarkson and has been a real achiever.

Charlie Spargo was regarded very highly as a 16 year old but his problem was that he never grew. That, together, with his injury woes in his draft year, saw his stocks fall in his draft.

Such things are likely to happen over again as time goes by no matter how much money and how many personnel the clubs employ to do their recruiting.

Thinks Flanders is a chance at 3, along with Young. Also says that the Dees are considering trading 3 for two picks in the teens (wtf?)..

They better not give our picks for later picks?

I hope they are not that stupid?

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
