Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Went to Freo in the Langdon trade I think.

Correct...sorry.  It's still part of our picks on the AFL's 'club by club' ladder but yes, clearly shown as part of the langdon deal by each round.

For me that's Serong given he is ranked right up there in the top 5 and we need a quality small forward.

Some are suggesting Weightman but he is ranked much lower than Serong and not sure he is worth a pick 8 unless we split and grab him later with a pick 25 or so.  I haven't seen either so they might both be rising potential small guns and worth it.  Maybe someone on here has seen them up close and able to fill us in a little.

Is there a decent highlights video of Serong showing the traits of a pick 3?

I had a look on Youtube and the 1 video I saw left me horrified that we would consider the kid with that pick.

Looked fat, slow, and zero agility.  Surely there must be a vid showing something special?

Serong played inside midfielder all season though. He played forward when he was younger, but now is an inside midfielder, so I'm not sure he fits that need. He's definitely a talented player though, so wouldn't be unhappy to have him in red and blue.

Weightman was rated between 20-25 during the year, but has risen recently as a bolter. I was keen on him a few months back and posted about him in the threads about other potnetial small forwards for future such as Kobe Farmer, Ksiah Picket etc. We're apparently keen on him, so pick 8/9 might be where he bolts to. He's a good small forward. Has pace, has a good leap, hits the scoreboard, provides pressure. He'd walk into our team round 1 IMO. I'd be very happy to have him in red and blue!

Yep, i think the FD is willing to back JT's assessment and 'reach' for him, ensuring he is on our list.

Thanks that gives a bit of an assessment at least.  The extract below seems to indicate he is worth a bit more note than the power ranking's 28....

..."clever and classy at ground level, he takes his chances, he's a good user of the ball on both sides of his body and he loves flying for big marks. He spent some time later in the season playing up the ground in the midfield, where he can use his strong tank. Has star factor."...

So we split pick 3 for say 6 and about 25?  Use 6 to ensure we nab Stephens who, outside of Rowell & Anderson, looks like the must get jet.  Another run & gun outside mid to eventually join Langdon, replacing Stretch as depth on the list (initially), till he finds his feet.

Then grab Weightman with 8 as the small (walk up?) classy small forward.

We are then still left with a 25ish pick.

I’m with you on drafting Stephens, he could become a gun outside mid, but I suspect we wouldn’t take him at 3. Maybe at 6 though, so I hope we trade 3 out to GWS & get something back.

That would be ideal. Then use pick 25 on a tall of some sort such as De Konig.

This is where I will forever scratch my head at this time of the year.  This isn't having a direct go at you, Buck, but there seems to be this theory that 2 picks at the later end of the Top 15 are better than pick 3.  I'd be taking pick 3 every day of the week over something like 11 & 15.

Not only that, the theory is that trading away Pick 3 to someone like GWS, so that they can use that pick to get someone, AS WELL AS this Green kid.  So in effect, we are actually making them stronger while diluting our own picks.

It makes absolutely no sense to me, but then I'm not the one on the big dollars sitting in the Football Department.

I suppose it depends who they want and if they think they will be there.  I agree that 3 and 8 will be juicy, and I would be very happy with that.  I think that there will be more of a mad dash at the end, and we could improve even further.

A pitty we aren't in the running for Bruce LT.  25 might have clinched it.  I know nothing about De Konig.  Research time!

Agreed ...3 seems too high hence the split with GWS for 6 but.....what if someone nabs him even before then?

Outside run and silk for us is much needed and tbh the players outside the top two till about 12 have all been rated as not that different in terms of a stand out.  It more comes down to getting the best 'potential' talent for what we need.

For me all roads (for us) in this particular draft in that top 12 lead to Stephens & Weightman.

Whilst they are only highlights and not many at that, Young seems more like a classic inside(ish) mid who bombs alot.  That worries me and also we are already well weighted with inside mids.

De Koning is 200cm utility. Named All Aus fullback, but hasn’t really found his best position. Could become a KPF/2nd ruck type we’re lacking perhaps. Will go anywhere from 20-50. There’s not many talls in this draft so not many other options.

We get 8 by giving away 26, 50 and next year's first and you think we should give up 3 for 6 and 25? That isn't happening.

Young played a bit inside midfield, more so to show recruiters he was capable and versatile. His clear best position is in defense as the distributor with a huge boot - think Shannon Hurn type. While he can boot it long, he definitely doesn’t bomb it. He can pinpoint kicks 50+ meters and is the best kick in the draft by a fair way. His kicking skills are the main reason he is rated a top 5 pick. Those skills are exactly what we’re lacking, so he’s probably the best fit at pick 3. Won’t be unhappy with any of the other names thrown about though, as they’re all elite talented youngsters.

pick 3, pick 8 not to be used on players, taken to the draft

But then says trades can occur up until the draft, 'worse case scenario we use pick 3, 8'.

I'm thinking they'll be pushing GWS right up until the draft

Great strategy by the Dees, make GWS sweat all the way to the draft if they don't want to deal with us.

Yes i saw the talk on his elite kicking and there was one vid showing him in action with a crazy 45 meter or so 45 kick to a player inside off the wing or HB, but the other highlights showed him mostly bombing.  Just saying.

we just gave up 26 , 50 and next years first round for pick 8

why would we now give up 3 for 6 and 25 ?

there would have to be way more in it for us to give up 3 now

It definitely won't be for 6 and 25.

I could see us offering GWS 3 for 6 and a player and maybe even the Tomlinson compo pick or that pick 6 and another first round pick.

In other words why would we give away 3 for a first and second when we paid a first, a second and a third for 8.

IMO we just tell GWS we are nominating Green at 3 if we still have it.

Ok so my only reasoning was that there was some talk that we MUST come in to the draft with at least three picks.  A swap as i suggested still gets us what we want (assuming) in Stephens with 6 and leaves us with 8 for Weightman plus the spare third pick required to come in to the draft ie; 25ish.

If that third pick isn't a must then sure...scrap everything i have suggested and i would agree 200% !

Spargo is no small forward imo but we will know by end of 2020 if he's def a bust anywhere else (OD i know you already think he's there...to save you from unnecessary typing!?)

Bedford has shown very little glimmer of hope at all imv from the few matches i've witnessed and looks that way.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo
