Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Frosty trade should have included something along these lines even if it meant giving another lower pick and/or a player in the vein of what they are looking for (ruckman...was Pruess an option?).

According to Mahoney Preuss' name had been mentioned but no details.

I assume we would not stand in his way of getting a position as first ruck if it was offered. (Not saying it was,)

I’m satisfied with Langdon and Tomlinson - but I was just hoping for one more trick eg,  Elliott, Sam Gray or Butler.

I’m now hoping they split pick 3 and get two or three really good first round standard kids.

And perhaps Sam Murray as a DFA.

Langdon is a big step up and Tomo should be handy.  But was hoping for two Ron.  A decent goal kicking KF / clever mobile medium forward as well as a proven genuine small crumber.

Might have to wait till next trade in 2020.

Unless we’ve identified someone in the draft we like for a small/pressure forward position I would be extremely disappointed if we came away from the trade period without having filled that (so clearly) vacant spot in the team.

I would not be surprised if we pull a late trade out of the blue. The trading with Carlton chat from Tom Browne just shows that we are clearly not done.

So many inside 50s, so few goals. Staggering that we wouldn’t have been going all out to trade in some forwards. Without them, sadly I reckon we will be even worse next year.

How do you know we haven’t tried to get a small forward in?? Or a forward at all??

and for people jumping up and down for a small forward, do you just want to bring in someone for the sake of it?? Even if they aren’t that good??

Heaps of people keep being picky about so many players and finding their faults as to why we shouldn’t bring them in and then people just want to bring in someone cos we have a need, even if they aren’t good enough.

I agree we need a better small forward, but they actually need to be an improvement on what we have. I don’t think butler is an improvement on his recent form, gray possibly is, but I don’t think they are someone we need to chase hard.

Fair call Yoko, and credit to the club they chased Elliot to fill the forward role so they are at least trying something (I was concerned last year when we traded Jesse out but seemed content with our remaining forwards).

There’s plenty of time remaining so hopefully we will be able to improve the forward line, you have stated in another thread it’s something we’re pursuing.

Hogan was part of that forward line so the answer doesn't carry a lot of weight...

Maybe we have another tall forward in mind.

Garlett too

I guess they're banking on full seasons from Melksham and Hannan but I don't think we have that natural small forward. None of our forwards really have "goal sense" ie the ability to find the goals when snapping out of a pack or from a pocket. That's something we desperately lack.

Not when we were up and running they weren't.

Hoges was good in the first half of the season until injuries kicked in

Garlett virtually won us the game up at the Gabba in Round 3 but wasn't a big factor in the season, from Anzac round onwards Melksham, Hannan, Spargo, Kent and AVB were the important ground level forwards in 2018

Hogan was good in 2018, but the way we entered 50 this year even J Cameron would struggle, we had a weak draw in 2018 grew in confidence towards the end, then with a harder draw and injuries the wheels fell off this year, I think 2020 will be the real Melbourne I'm tipping us to be competitive every week and finish 6 -8th,

I have a similar view I wonder if we will be correct?

He didn’t actually say he plays the same position.  He said they have options Lever, May, OMac, Petty, Hore, JETTA and Hibberd.   It makes perfect sense.

Frost is not a great loss at all.

Well he was asked how are they going to cover the loss of Frost. Frost is a key defender. Jetta and Hibberd have no relevance to this. They both also looked like they would be lucky to be playing AFL footy in 2020. They are not going to match up on Ben Brown. I fail to see in this context how that answer makes perfect sense but each to their own if you want to cop that.

I can deal with losing Frost but I am not okay with the club banking on Oscar or Lever as our second tall. Our whole recruitment of key defenders has been and continues to be a mess.

Also poor form from Terry and Kane not to probe pick 3.

Petrevski-Seton is trending upwards and is a good zippy mid, albeit not a particular goal scorer at this stage. I can't think of any other smalls we consider other than Fisher.

Great post as usual mate. I still think we (and the club) want a bit more x factor in that forward line to go with Melksham, Hannan, Spargo and AVB. We really need a match winner. Unless Weideman really comes out of nowhere, we'll need to trade or draft that player in.

Do you reckon that injuries to TMac, Weid, Melksham, Hannan and AVB and having to play Fritsch back to cover injuries down there had anything to do with it?

More talent there would be better but we clearly made a very solid play for Elliott and Yokozuna is reporting we're in the mix for another forward.

Staggering you don't acknowledge this.

Unless something comes up really good I'm expecting us to hold firm till draft night.

Once the indicative draft order is soughted, clubs will start putting their feelers out as to who's taking who.

They generally have a fair idea who's takiing which player in the top 10 and once that's known I think we might get some offers in for 3 in live trading

Can't remember who mentioned McKay but I'd give Carlton 3 and 26 for 9 and Mckay

There’s a reason why every year we target our players and we get the deals done. While idiots like Essendon sit around and wonder what happened at the deadline.
Chest beating doesn’t get you the players you want. And being notoriously good to deal with makes us an attractive proposition for both opposition clubs and players seeking trades.

Also lol at Bell asking about Angus in the Langdon deal. He probably wanted Angus and pick 3 for Langdon, so to virtually trade a future 2nd round pick and steak knives is a big win.

Well said Jaded, we are becoming like the Cats and Hawks who identify what they want/need and just get it done. Be nice to follow their successes on field.

Dockers supporters are fuming over Bell here in WA, last year they felt he was cutting his teeth but his performance this season especially in the Hill trade hasn't enhanced his reputation

Be interesting to see how the purple mob go next year.

If they end up losing Hill, having already lost Langdon, they might struggle on the big expanses of Optus, like we've struggled on the G.

If I'm them I'm going to complete the rebuild and assure Longmuir we're in for the long haul.

Their backline with Pearce, Hamling, Ryan and Wilson is good. Logue is going to be a good defender.

I'm sitting Bell down and saying get 12, 18 from St Kilda, if you can get steak knives get them

Pick 6 goes on Jackson that gives you Darcy and Jackson for 10-12 yrs. Lobb can give Darcy a chop out whilst Jackson develops

Pick 12 goes on Robertson they need midfield depth and this kids a born leader

Pick 18 goes on Sharp unless someone bids for Henry. Sharp is a beautiful user of the footy and will be Stephen Hill's replacement off halfback

Pick 22 goes on whichever of the above you didn't get. I'd even consider taking Sharp at 18 to guarantee him and let Henry go backing myself to take Elijah Taylor with a matched bid

I see this draft as their opportunity to set themselves up with a variety of positions filled. The bonus for them is they're all WA boys so no go home factor

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
