Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not sure I agree. There are a few Demonlanders who are far more negative. Exhibit A:

Our window is closed with these numpties running the MFC. Tomlinson was the worst player in the GF and has struggled to be in the best 22 all year. He is only OK at a few things but not great anything. Offering  Frost, our best defender, more money would have been better value. Elliot is fragile and overpriced we would get better value out of Butler. Langdon is OK but not top tier and won't make up the difference for the team to be successful. There are about ten players at Freo I would rather target. May is an overpriced spud that no other team was gullible enough to want, yet he is the most secure player on our list. MFC is stuffed. Everybody sees Melbourne coming.

Just listened to the podcast. Refreshingly open and transparent. Yes, individuals may have personal views about Frosty,  O-Mac, AVB, Nibbler and the like, but Mahoney presented clear and logical reasons for immediate short term planning. Proof of the merits of this thinking will obviously not be visible until the end of 2020. I really liked the interview and like others I do not understand the lack of love for Lyon.

Short term means “ Save my Job” right?

Just missed that one....see above Trout.  One has to assume good reason/s and it's under control.  We know nothing of the inner workings.  Patience is a virtue.  What to do. Wait for the wash up at year's end and see what we're taking into 2020.

Yes let’s wait another 50 years

Can't wait to see O Mac bursting out of defence with the ball next year. I'm sure his delivery will be so much better than Frosty.

Let’s wait to see what happens first before we go making wild assumptions!

I would be worried if there are no more coaches in terms of the roles required.  It seems Richardson's role will primarily be supporting Goodwin and the other coaches.

What about other roles:

  • Forward Coach (Rawlings),
  • Strategy (Jennings)
  • Player Development (Macca)

We will have Goodwin with Plapp and Chaplin as line coaches.  Process that for a few seconds.

All 3 are first time incumbents in their roles with very little experience.  This year they struggled.  How will they manage with 2 or 3 less direct coaches next year?

If the reason, as some have surmised, is to save money in our sal cap we have our football spend all wrong.

My hobby horse all year has been to have an AFL level experienced forward coach.  It just horrifies me that we would not have one at all.

Mahoney hesitated for a while before answering the coaching question.  I'm praying that his response was just keeping his powder dry for now.

This is not sounding great. But it is October. If we are cutting back Coaches because of Budget constraints, it’s time to shut up shop.

This must be fully resolved

I can not conceive the club would not replace the departed coaches.   He may have just worded 'no more new coaches' poorly and meant the new coaches just haven't joined us yet.

Either way i am suprised they were not announced at The B&F if they are infact employed.

Lot of negative Nellies on DL.

Mahoney could recruit Chris Judd, Buddy Franklin and Dustin Martin all at once and the same negative nellies would still demand blood because we didn't recruit Sam Frost along with those 3.

One out of three. We could have recruited Dusty.

I'm not necessarily concerned. Too many coaches may confuse the players. I don't know what the right number is, but I just want us to have the balance right. I got a sense this year that the changes to the coaching panel made during the season suggested that there was something wrong with the coaching group. That's not to say the individuals weren't each appropriately skilled but, rather, they may not have been working smoothly as a group. To paraphrase a cliche, perhaps we had too many cooks.

* Letting go of Sam Frost - does it leave us thin? - they don't think so, expect lever & may and oscar to have full pre-season and play all year

* Understand fans will be surprised but we have lots of players that can play that role.

* May & Lever can play tall lockdown and mobile defender role

* Viewed the Langdon & Frost Trade as a package

* Ed Langdon - Langdon & Tomlinson bring running power, brings in a need we needed to address, pacy wingmen

* Won't explore small forward role in the trade period. believe our forward line in 2018 was good enough and hope it can do it again in 2020.

* Having those wingmen adds flexibility to midfield to not have to play midfielders on wing who can now go to half forward or half back

* Won't look at Brad Hill as the "other club"

* Asked about Braydon Preuss - see him as an important back up player. Have had enquiries about him but he will stay.

* Brayshaw - Freo briefly enquired and we were emphatic that he stay.

* Doesn't sound like there will be any more changes in the coaching staff

* Burgess started today.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
