Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Serong is certainly right up there in terms of inside mids (pushes forward at times as well).  Is there a place for another on our list i wonder?

NO but an outside mid like Stephens Yes Please

Not sure I agree with that.

serong is a gun!  If he is available at 8, it would be a steal.

Serong or Kemp at 8 are a steal. ( or Stephens or Flanders or Ash or Jackson ... in that order). One will drop and we should get Young plus another top quality youngster.

And to add more context to Twomey's selection of Weightmen at 8, it is because they were acting as recruiters and Sheehan had selected Jackson at 7, as a Freo recruiter so he was off the board for Twomey at 8.  He desperately wanted Jackson at 8.  And they didn't make any adjustment for matching bids on Academy players.  It was a bit of a game really; not really an expected draft order.

Here's how I think the draft will pan out.

The draft night trades i've got occurring due to teams getting in front of academy bids is:

Adelaide trade pick 4 to GWS for pick 6 + 2020 first round pick

Melbourne trade pick 8 to Freo for pick 10 + pick 22

1. GC - Matt Rowell

2. GC - Noah Anderson

3. MELB - Hayden Young

4. GWS - Luke Jackson

5. GWS (Sydney bid) - Tom Green

6. SYD - Sam Flanders

7. ADEL - Dylan Stephens

8. FREO - Devon Robertson

9. FREO - Lachie Ash

10. FREO (Carlton bid) - Liam Henry

11. CARL - Brodie Kemp

12. MELB - Caleb Serong

If Kysaiah Pickett is still there at our pick 22 we will snap him up, if not Elijah Taylor would be a nice alternative who has a ton of x-factor, reminds me a lot of Daniel Rioli. I'd also like to see us package up our 2020 fourth rounders to get into the third round of this years draft to take Ned Cahill, and then take Sam Lowson in the rookie draft. Suddenly we have Serong, Taylor, Cahill, Lowson all to fulfill our small forward/forwards role and then there is still room for Bedford, and Spargo to improve, our small forward stocks will be looking nice.

Knightmare’s educated guess today is that we take Jackson at 3 and either Young at 8 if he’s still there, otherwise Ash.

Young won’t fall outside the top 5. It’s 3 or nothing.

Interesting how the latter part of the top 10 pans out. Could be some surprises there with proven players like Serong and Ash seemingly on the outer.

Champion Data top Mock draft is:  https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-mock-draft-2019-champion-data-rankings-pick-1-prospects-matt-rowell-tom-green-noah-anderson/news-story/e8b5be824b0695bda92ce6a7869dd570

  • 1. MATTHEW ROWELL
  • 2. THOMAS GREEN
  • 3. NOAH ANDERSON
  • 4. LUKE JACKSON
  • 5. HAYDEN YOUNG
  • 6. CALEB SERONG
  • 7. SAM FLANDERS
  • 8. LACHLAN ASH
  • 9. DEVEN ROBERTSON
  • 10. WILL GOULD

Interestingly, Green is ranked as 2nd best.  Surely, we must bid for him at 3?  Are we afraid GWS won't match?

I see no risk in bidding for him - we either get one of the top 3 draftees (Green) or we select the player we would otherwise have chosen currently predicted to be Jackson.

We must nail pick 3 and if Green is best available we go for him!

We won’t get him even if we bid.  Champion data’s rankings are usually rubbish.  Caleb Daniel was ranked 1 from memory in his draft year

Its a mock draft, no-one gets them right.

We should bid on Green even if we don't get him.  Let GWS sort out their draft points.  They played in the GF for goodness sake, they don't need anymore help to build their list.  Make them pay the going rate for Green.

Knightmare has posted his phantom draft today.

Has us taking Jackson at 3 and Ash at 8.

So we take Jackson then wait for West Coast and Fremantle to come after him, face that same Jesse Hogan/ Tom Scully talk everytime he is out of contract.

Young is a player we need, footy smart and kicks the ball extremely well

This. Are we drafting for the future or are we drafting for now. Young plays R1 and impacts with great skills. Jackson might play R1 but history will say big blokes take a while.  Draft the kid who can kick, after all its is called football.

I'm no draft expert but surely we are not taking a Ruckman with our first pick. We have a top 2 Ruckman in gawn and a handy back up and a project ruckman.

We have holes everywhere but the ruck.

Trade 3 to Freo for 7 and 10 or just take young.

Young@3 and serong@8 best outcome

Can we just assume that if we take Jackson with what could be the first live pick, it is because we think he is special. Young is probably a safe pick, but Jackson is obviously seen as more than a ruckman. If he can play as a key forward as well, we have solved 2 areas in one pick.

We get our 3rd key forward, who can also be Max’s eventual replacement. If Bradtke keeps developing he can hopefully also play forward and share the ruck with Jackson when Max is gone.

We can get another running defender or mid with 8 and that leaves small forwards as the last target.

I can’t believe we take Jackson unless we see a future star and if he is, we will have done well.

Personally I am not a recruiter and know very little of these guys, so as with Oliver, I trust Taylor to get it right with both picks under 10, as they are too valuable to get wrong.

A couple of guys however who know Jackson well, claim he will be a star. These big guys who can play are like diamonds, as proved by Essendon keeping an injured one, because they had no replacement. BTW I spoke to him last night and he is a nice guy.

i'd say we're 100% taking Jackson with pick 3.

High Risk, high Reward, we haven't won a flag in 54 years, I say go for it...

And what position will he play?

We have a pretty good ruck already, and Jackson can not play forward.  He will be useless to us

There is no Lochie Whitfield in the top 3- 5. That would be great. We can do with another excellent outside Mid.

Tom Green is looking superb. But we have plenty of inside Mids.

Hadyn Young? Even if he was another Basher Houli its a lot to spend on HBF.

Luke Jackson? How many very good talls have we got from Centre to FWD? 2 - TMac and Gawny. It just makes sense to take Jackson even if Weid, Pruess and Bradtke come suddenly very good. Luke says he is ready to play Round one. His highlights are very good. Left and right foot, great groundskills and solid pack marks. 12 year player probably. I dont see whats not to like.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
