Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Mahoney traded away our 2020 1st round pick to North , banking on us rising up the ladder next season.

We need to take ready made kids at 3 and 8 who can impact immediately.

Kemp will miss all of 2020.  We will not be drafting Kemp.

Having said that, I would take him at pick 3.  He has star power unlike Young, Ash, Serong, etc etc.   Im just saying that I doubt we will take him as Mahoney and Goodwins (and others) jobs are on the line in 2020

And i thought a week was a long time in footy RR!

From the story.......

Kemp might’ve sat out on the draft combine due to his knee injury, but it didn’t stop Sydney asking the utility a puzzling question during the interview process.

“(There was) a fake spider, big blue ball where you squeeze it, jelly, a puzzle and one of those slap bracelets,” he said.

This sort of garbage would have me walking out of an interview. Psychobabble has invaded far too many areas of the AFL, and if it helped you identify a future champion i would be absolutely flabbergasted.

Only people who rate Mission Statements would believe a question like this could help identify a future champ. A 17-18 year old male has tons of mental development left, and his answer would change practically every year. Word wankery at its best.

Cue the triggered Psychologists..........................

I'm really keen on Kemp.

He was setting himself for a strong year prior to his injury and may have been a late bolter like Bontempelli in 2013, who shot up the rankings late in his U18 year.  Trading out our 2020 first pick and collecting a (potential top five this year) to be primed by 2021... seems like it was meant to be.

Obviously there’s no guarantees but Kemp has all the tools to become a Bontempelli/Fyfe type of player and the only reason he won’t be a top 5 pick is due to his knee injury. I’ve watched several of the U18 matches in their entirety and I can see the Bont/Fyfe resemblance.

I just feel that if he is there at pick 8, we take the long term view and pick him. Hopefully the club feels the same.

Mate, it’s not rocket science.

The draftees enter the interview process armed with carefully crafted and rehearsed answers to the standard lineup of questions. The “weird” questions are purely designed to “throw” the kids off their game, make them think laterally and begin to reveal their true personalities. It’s all about getting honest answers to the later questions. The immediate answers to the weird questions are not taken into account one iota.

See ball get ball. Takes first option. Plenty to learn here Ding.

i think it's more to do with indecision from a psychological point of view. No wrong choice, just backing yourself to make one.

I would've gone with the slap bracelet myself!

But what if you choose nothing?

I think @Mach5 has it sussed. Seems to be the only point to it, as the test would immediately reveal that @ding has a schitty temper that makes it hard for him to make rational choices.

It’s a great test, pressure, no obvious solution, do they freeze or shoot..?
Could/would be critical in the heat of a game...

Yeah, so the better footballer gets rejected because he picked the Jelly. Instead, they should have picked him because of his superior footy ability.

Time wasting rubbish.

In the highlights does he appear a lot bigger than those around him to you? He does to me, and clubs have been hurt in the past selecting someone who developed physically earlier.

Read Mach5 post again.

I think he has the right idea. It's possibly to throw their mind off the pre-prepared answers in the hope of giving away something revealing about themselves.

Makes sense to me.

Haha yeah because questions like these are totally unexpected these days.

These kids go in well prepared for random questions so the original aim of this "surprise" questioning has been badly eroded.

Dusty probably wouldnt have ever been drafted if this approach was a deciding factor in a player being drafted or not.

There comes a time when organisations just get a bit too clever for their own good. This is one of those times.

In under 12-16’s maybe. Highlights are from U18’s NAB cup etc, he’s playing against other elite kids who are a similar size and development. He might look taller when playing in the midfield because he’s 193cm, playing against some that are only 178cm etc. ?

Should have set off alarm bells when Petracca picked the jelly and then asked for seconds.

You’re still not paying attention. It’s about engaging the left side of the brain and getting more honest answers to the subsequent questions. The weird questions themselves and their answers are irrelevant. What’s the harm?

Assuming Ding really is who he says he is as depicted in his profile pic - then in my experience being confronted with a fake spider could lead to all sorts of harm, particularly for briefly amused karma-baiting bystanders.

From a seventeen year old future football star I'd be happy if they could grunt the words 'I like football and girls'. The rest we can work on over the years.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
