Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Seems a long shot.

Not sure why clubs would have a 'gentleman's agreement' on who is taking who during trade week. It's far too early.

You might be right that we're hoping he'll be there or that chances are good that he'll be there. But that's about it I reckon.

Yeah don't think so.

Sydney will bid on Green as they are desperate for an inside mid. Once GWS select Green they will turn their attention straight to Kemp who they are big fans of.

The thing that might help us is clubs might be reluctant to use their first pick on a boy who can't play for a year. Club fans may be more impatient and want to see their boys playing at some level right away.

For us, he would be our 2nd pick after 3, which allows a bit more understanding from the fans.

Then again, a strong club wouldn't worry about what the fans think and the Swans are a strong club.

Interesting times.

If there are no pick swaps in the top 8 it could go something like

3 Young

4 Serong

5 Flanders

6 Green

7 Jackson

8 Kemp

On the above Ash is still there to help Kemp get to our pick.

As I said Interesting times.

Any recruiting dept that made decisions based on this factor is totally derelict in their duty. Should never be a consideration.

Even less of an issue for us, given that we have no first rounder next year. Very few have an impact year 1 like a Selwood or Walsh (don't even think Cripps or Fyfe were that much chop in year one).

yes but there is massive massive pressure on clubs to improve for memberships, sponsorship and to move up the ladder. I have no doubt most clubs are impatient and for instance its much hard to prize a first rounder this year than next year from any club.

If we traded to 8 to take a shot at Kemp - and I believe we have (taking Jordan early last year provides a clue to our approach) - and Kemp is off the table: it will mean there's something solid still available.

There's about ten decent players being bandied about who appear to be considered quite even after the top 4, and then there's a sharp drop-off - trading to 8 is really hitting that 'sweet spot' of the draft.

If we're not interested we can start live trading down for freebies - possibly more than once - and maybe down to Weightman territory. These are the clubs below us. Let them fight it out for the last scraps.

I don't know if Kemp is the one, but I think we are really looking at someone at 8. I think if they are gone we might go talking during the live trade for (say) a couple of mid teen picks.

That said I hope we don't. I hope that we do what we have done over that last couple of trade / draft periods - know what we want and make it happen. I think we have a better team and admin than the average supporter gives us credit for. 2019 was a blip for many reasons, so I'll back the team to be better and smarter in all parts of the game from now.

What? You don't know the rules? You have to discredit the poster you disagree with, not do all that fact stuff. Troll them and then claim the win no matter how stupid your plan was. Sheeesh. I't in the T&C here somewhere.

It could just be that we think the top 10 this year are better than the 15-20 range next year. Given we're backing ourselves to climb the ladder next year, we would hope we'd be looking at a top 8 finish next year, therefore 15-20. Once you take into our account the alleged compromised nature of the 2020 draft, it makes enough sense.

That is why I put in the 3rd line of my post.

My line of thinking wasn't down-trading for two picks in the teens. More that we'd be dangling for a Carlton/Adelaide 2018 type deal to get us to the the top end of next year. Failing that we could slide for one pick in the teens and pick up something for next year similar to what we sold to get to 8 - scoring a free/cheap pick in the teens.

I asked a draft watcher today his thoughts on next year’s draft...he was...not complimentary

Also said that he doesn’t believe a thing that is said in the media about Melbourne’s trade / draft plans as - since the regime change and Mahoney’s role change - “they don’t leak”

He thinks we might trade pick 3 still but if we don’t then we’d be crazy not to pick Young

I think we might just bid on Green with 3 and GWS will match it and then we will select Young. I do not see us splitting pick 3. Pick 8 will be interesting. I think that Kemp might be the one we want and if he is not there come our pick I think we might be open to the trade of picks. Maybe with the Freo. Our pick 8 for their pick 10 and 22. Effectively dropping one or two picks and picking up an early second round.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
