Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

In the OP's defence the relationship between Casey listed players and MFC could be better explained.

As I understand it on most occasions the Casey group train alone and have a separate pre-season. The fact that the Casey players are part time as against the MFC listed players dictates such an arrangement.

Nevertheless I would be interested to hear if that is the same with other VFL aligned/owned clubs.

At the next bargaining round/TV rights deal I would not be surprised to see the VFL comp re-organised at least as one often hears that they cost a lot of money to maintain.

Interesting to see that until this season WCE didn't have its own WAFL side.(Good wiki below.)

Didn't we also play in 2 of the 4 GF's in the VFL?

Are you a dill or just uninformed ?

We have a VFL side - its called the Casey Demons & we completely control every aspect of it including player development.  Get with the program.

Good luck until we get our own training base - which will be yonks away. How would we fit in our AFL, VFL and AFLW sides into AAMI park with the Storm, Victory and Rebels??? Also recall our VFL side being very successful for the better part of the last 5 years

Would love to have a training base that doubles as a VFL and AFLW stadium and have them all train and play together as much as possible but you can't always have everything.

By the way I'm sure the Tigers VFL guys don't train with the AFL players at all times, they have to work just like the Casey guys do.

Also I hope we get out to Casey more often in preseason to train on the full sized oval.

There's a tough solution to all our problems.

Turn Casey into our training base as well as our VFL, VFLW and AFLW home. Fair chance we could score enough money from the government to turn Casey fields into an elite facility with community links, as well as developing the stadium into a 20-25k seated venue. This could also raise the possibility of us arranging a deal with the City Of Casey to play a home game there every year, which could replace the Darwin game.

Hawks players drive out to Waverley, Saints out to Moorabbin, sure it's not ideal but my opinion is the players would prefer an actual elite facility that's a bit of a drive compared to sharing the showers with a bunch of other teams.

Yeah it's not the ideal answer, but how many more years do we roll with poor facilities while we wish away the time waiting for some kind of imaginary land to appear next to the G.

And just to put it out there, I don't WANT this, but I do want an actual solution.

Waverley is straight off the Monash and and 5 minutes from Eastlink.

Moorabbin isnt far down the Nepean when you live in Sandringham etc.

Casey is another 20 minutes past the back of my nuts.

I agree with the notion and it may well be the only answer we have...but geez it would make our club even less desirable to players than it already is.

Unless we buy Cranbourne, bulldoze it and set up a luxury secure compound for all players and families.

Wasn't saying they were all comparable from a geographic point of view. Just saying that those teams don't train in their actual suburbs, let alone near the CBD or the MCG.

As I said though, my opinion is players would rather drive 40 minutes than 10 if it means they get actual elite facilities. Just my opinion though, haven't done a survey or anything. ;)

Plus, being a professional organization who wins games would be more deisrable than just a great location, otherwise GWS and GC's situations would be reversed.

Did not work for  the saints at frankston,  they have state of the art facilities down there but have  abandoned those facilities to go back to Moorabbin stating that the drive was the Factor no one wanted to drive down there no matter how good they were.

Yeah good point mate, can understand that. But at the same time, it's not like they moved to St Kilda or somewhere close to the CBD. They're still a while out.

Just think the Casey option is one that could get a lot of financial support and gives us the most freedom, as opposed to trying to turn a small corner of grass next to the freeway into an elite facility, while still training on the same oval we're currently on.

I'm not pushing for it, I would much rather we have a home base close in, but it's just not happening for us and we can't keep falling behind IMO.

Aren’t we having a difficult enough time attracting players to our club? Telling them that they can add 1-2 hours total travel time to each training session might not exactly serve as icing on the cake.

As opposed to telling them they have to watch out for dog poo on the oval and share the showers with 80 other blokes?

Fair enough mate. I guess we just see it differently. Personally I would prefer the little bit of extra travel if it meant using elite facilities as opposed to training on a public park, sharing everything with other sports and not having the offices in the same building. I can understand what you're saying though. I guess I'm just sick of us having sub-standard facilities and spending our time wishing away things that either won't happen or are half-baked.

Sub standard facilities, it is not ideal,  but you need to get on a tour, there is nothing sub standard about the facilities, if you mean the gym, pool, massage and physio that is

The facilities at AAMI Park are fine, as one of Australia's most successful football teams the Melbourne Storm use the same facilities. Also Melbourne Victory use the same facilities, and they have been very successful as well. We already have our own team in the VFL as we control the Casey Demons.

I've been there mate. Sure the actual facilities are not at Arden St in the 90s levels, but compared to other clubs we are a long way behind AND most importantly we share it all with at least 3 other sporting clubs. It's simply not good enough.

Ideally Casey is not the answer. But we've gone decades without a true base and nothing has been properly resolved. We were told we would have a new base lined up by the end of 2018, it's still not even close.

Wouldn't put the NRL and A-League in the same category as the AFL in terms of being an elite level sport IMO.

How have the other tenants, the Dees and the Rebels gone?

The NRL and A-League are elite sports, and once more you can represent Australia against other countries. Rugby league and soccer are played worldwide and not just in small part of Australia.

I do not think that the facilities are totally to blame for the dees and rebels problems.

Totally agree. An upgrade is well overdue. I see moving to Casey Fields as very much a “buy cheap, buy twice” scenario though.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
