Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I still love Hogan and want to see him do well but I think he has peaked. He just doesn't have the mentality to succeed which is a shame because I think he did when he first started. Everyone knows what he's had to deal with and it seems he is still working through it all. By the time he figures it out it will be too late.

I saw an instance on the weekend where he was ripping in to a teammate for burning him on the lead instead of turning around and impacting the next contest. If that's not out of his game by now its here to stay.

Cameron would be awesome - will never come to us, probably Collingwood or even Carlton or Essendon.

Daniher and Casboult? No [censored] way!! If the club signed either of those two hacks I would be done.

Gotta play with the hand you're dealt. We don't have much in the way of trade currency so it's likely to be a free agent we chase if we do. Those 3 are the best 3 options as far as key forwards go.

FWIW I think Casboult would be a great get for us. Excellent mark, good on the lead and seems to have worked hard to fix his kicking.

I agree.  I think now, he was too young to come across the country to play.

I agree with raising the draft age to 19Yrs,  but also academy players should be 16 or 17yrs,  from within your own local region.  So they stay at home with mum and dad.

A sort of U-19's comp.

Casboult is a very different beast to the unreliable, occasionally impressive forward-ruck of the past. He's been really good for Carlton this season and his one fairly poor game against us probably made the difference.  Unfortunately he's also now over 30 and has only once in his career gone a season injury free.  Plus, as I understand it he is pretty deep 'Blue'.

In-form Hogan is, tragically, the type of player we could use.  But so would be in-form Weideman or in-form Tom McDonald.

Yeah, my hope would be Levi could bridge the 'Weid/Jackson gap' where he covers us for a couple of years while one (or hopefully both) of those guys really come on. He almost left the Blues last time he was out of contract but then some weird contract clause kicked in from memory and they signed him up again. Having a genuine big unit who will lead hard and never drop the ball would be a godsend for us, plus the bloke literally hasn't missed this year; 8 goals straight.

Daniher is the savior. He's kicked 60 odd goals in a season and been an All Australian. I don't understand the hatred for him. He knows how to get the ball he kicked 7 behinds against us but his kicking has improved since Lloyd took him under his wing. He's definitely better than Casboult.

No. And trying to over simplify things in this way doesn't do anyone any favours.

We need a key forward who can lead and mark, that's pretty obvious. It's a role to fill, not a 'saviour'.

We don't have anything in ways of trade currency, so we need to look at free agents.

As far as free agents go Jeremy Cameron is without doubt the best option. Should we not get him we need to look at the other options.

One of those is Casboult. One of the best pairs of hands in the league, consistently leads and has not missed a shot on goal this year.

If you'd prefer to throw around some of the unrealistic ideas that always pop up then go for it, I'm sure we can trade the Wagners, Niteschke, Dunkley and Chandler in a package deal for Ben Brown.

LN that lot would get you one of browns legs.

If you want class you have to give something of value.

As we Have already given North our first pick this year which will be a good one we have nothing to offer.

Ask them for Brown and they would ask for Gawn in return.

No chance Brown is going anywhere and why on Earth would he want to come to us?

This is where both your logic and the Football Department's logic just don't make sense to me.  You're asking for a role player, not a saviour, which is not an unrealistic request.  You have then offered the name of Casboult as a possible target (your 2nd choice).

If that's all we are asking (ie role-player, not saviour), then I can't see why we wouldn't be playing Weid or Brown.  They are both as capable, if not more so, than Levi, and are both presently on our list.

The logic of the FD that I don't understand is that we clearly need a 2nd tall forward, yet they have two of them running around in a scratch match that can do it but refuse to pick them.

I agree we should already have one of Weid or Brown in the team at the moment, but IMO neither of them are anywhere near Casboult as a player currently. Not even close.

Usually here if we play on a Sunday the pattern goes:

Sunday & Monday - Anger
Tuesday - Confusion moving into sarcasm
Wednesday - Productive thought
Thursday - Hope, leading to confusion again at about 6.25pm
Friday - Head shaking
Saturday - Hope again

Its time to look elsewhere for a key fwd.. its to hard to get one out of another club.. they are out there.. Ben Brown was swinging away in teh VFL..  You just want to get a player who is capable of taking a big mark.

If thats not available.. then we might have one in our midst.. if things keep going teh way they are and teh season is done early.. then Swing May fwd and see how he goes.  Tom can go back.. its worth a try..  even if its just for teh last 4 weeks of footy to see if there is something in it.

Of course it won’t but the discussion show what we lost when  he left. No replacement of the 50 goals he kicked in 3/4 of a season in 2018.

You know those things that win games.

Brown kicked 21 goals from 16 games in 2019, Casboult kicked 15 from 20.

Brown had a reasonably solid preseason, then got the [censored] after our Round 1 game.  Has kicked bulk goals in every scratch match since.

You will predictably show me their stats for 2020, and it will somewhat give your argument a great deal more substance than mine, but it's why I also questioned the logic of the Football Department.  Their selections this year are absolutely disgraceful, so much so that you are able to use stats that would support why Casboult should be someone we target.

I wanted Casboult 2 years ago when he was on the scrap heap and was up for trade. Got howled down for it. As you say, best hands in the comp and would have taken an extra big body to relive McDonald and Weideman at the time. He won't win you game, but he's a hard working competitor.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
