Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Jack Watts - let’s get him back

I’m not intending to stir the pot here, but I reckon we could use this guy’s skills and he’d still absolutely be in our best 22.

Watts is simply an elite user of the ball, he has great skills, and he is fundamentally an MFC man - something which I think is relevant to this club right now.

In short, there are tangible and intangible reasons to get him back to the club. 2019 was a simply pathetic season, and it was characterised by many poor decisions. Getting Watts back could demonstrate that we know we’ve made some mistakes, and that we’re above our own ego. I reckon it’d also improve our list.

As an aside, I was at the Swans B&F last night as a guest of a former Port Adelaide player who knows him. He confirmed that: (a) he’s a ripper bloke; (b) he has extreme skills; and (c) he’s much harder at the contest than a lot of spectators appreciate.

Completely unsolicited, he then told me that every club had him as the number 1 in his draft year. I know this is probably accurate because Gubby Allen also confirmed this to me a few years ago. We just developed him completely poorly.

Let’s bring this guy back to the club. We really need some more class.

PS. I rate our number 31 - I’d just like to see him and Watts operate in tandem for the red and blue.

I am ok with it but I'd be stunned if Goody undid that statement

Got some interesting feedback on Goodwin too.

He’s a super discliplined and hard-nosed man. He may in fact be an android. In this context, I agree that there’s no way he’d reverse his decision to trade Watts.

And this is perhaps also why we finished 17th. It’s possible he only has one gear.

Much as I think Jack Watts in probably a nice guy, he's rarely excelled in the hunger for agressive high level consistent performances on an AFL field. Still hasn't at Port, as far as I'm aware.

Pass.

We got rid of him because he didnt work hard enough. Was happy to be a good player and didnt want to put in the hard yards.

Whether this was our fault (product of environment) or Jacks is besides the point now.

He is gone and wont be back.

Pass.

He was unreal against us in round one - he’s a great distributor.

Then he did his knee.

I’d like to see him as the player responsible for delivering it into our forward 50. We lost a stack of games this year even though our forward 50 entry count was higher that the oppositions.

All of that hard work ethos took us to 17th.

IMO an effective group requires a broad range of skill sets and personality types - some hard working, some gifted.

One thing I’ve always observed is that poor managers always simplistically reward try-hardedness and diligence over effectiveness and talent.

It’s the very reason why Mark Neeld drove a Mack truck through our list - he loved the untalented C graders who tried their guts out over those with class.

Other than giving his opinion on the matter, what exactly did he confirm?

Or did he just confirm his opinion?

I think part of the reason we got rid of him was a ‘culture’ thing. Regardless of whether or not we’d like him back, it won’t happen.

Nail head

I have never professed to have inside knowledge... but Ive heard culture in afl circles is very highly rated.

What specific culture each club is lookong for i cant comment on.

Jack had a rough time at the dees and didnt deserve  lot of the criticism but i also think Jack had other prioritues which may not have helped his cause.

I highly doubt we'll see him as a player again at the dees. I am also worried for him.beyond 2020 at port. Needs a big year.

You're really trolling with this garbage.

You want to trade for a dud that came 21st in Ports best and Fairest in 2018?

I remember that Sheahan bloke who does the TAC stuff showing footage of Watts in his draft year, Clearly an elite athlete but his footage just showed him, clearly taller than his opponents leading for marks at abut 35 metres out and then kicking accurately. While he looked good I was underwhelmed for a number 1 pick as there was little or no pressure from any defenders and none of him getting his own ball. Clearly remember Sheahan saying he was a certain 10  year  player as a leading key big forward.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
