Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Something about it not being our ‘brand’... Well it was certainly our brand for the entire 2019 season. Perhaps a question is, in hindsight do you think you should have reviewed it Simon? (Personally I think he must have, for some reason he’s sticking to the story that he didn’t. If he really did not review it, then I’d consider that almost a dereliction or his duties).

Another question, what lead to so many players requiring post season surgery? Was it the game style, bad luck or something else? We had our fair whack of injuries this season too, but I’d put that down to underdone players (which apparently then were none...).

My view on the surgeries was anyone who needed anything done would all get sorted out last year knowing it would impact our 2019 campaign but getting everyone cherry ripe to for future seasons. I think the impact on 2019 was far worse than they expected though.

Perhaps Dlanders could prepare a list of questions. They could be refined through comment to ensure no Dorothy Dix answers and an insistence on answers from the club not from other Dlanders.

This can be done to allow those of us who are a bit remote and cannot attend an opportunity to have our question directed to the club.

Good idea dp. I won't be able to make it, but my queries are:

1. Joel Smith did not play all year after being left on the ground in a practice match clearly injured. Convince me this was not incompetence on the part of coaches/medical team.

2. Steven May turned up to the club unfit/overweight and missed more games this year than his last five years. How are we preparing both returning players this year and trade-ins/draftees alike given May was clearly not informed on expectations before arrival.

3. How was an even more immature forward line than last year with the loss of Hogan and Weideman part time allowed to be run under a first year line coach for as long as it was? In fact, what was the basis for giving Rooke the gig in the first place, I'd have expected a more experienced coach for a less experienced forward line.

4. If the board was forewarned before the season commenced that our pre-season was disastrous with respect to lack of fitness, why were the members not given ANY indication of this. Short term revenues gain from more members, upgraded membership categories including gf guarantees etc will now be more than offset next year with reduced memberships next year because we've got a board that are evidently not transparent and honest with their members.

5. Give me an example where we tried a Plan B in a game that wasn't going well.

No players came back underdone, they don't dare these days

I have continually said I thought the physical preparation was similar to every year and shouldn't be used as an excuse

To the first sentence, well done. You've just further indicated to me that no matter how many training sessions you attend, you genuinely don't know the intricacies of off-season preparation and what coming back 'underdone' means at this level.

And to the second paragraph, Goodwin has now stated numerous times that we had far too many players go through an interrupted pre-season which had a direct impact on our season.

For someone who consistently repeats the words of MFC coaches, it really doesn't make any sense whatsoever that you 'don't believe it should be an excuse'.

Disappointingly, it is recognised as a legitimate word (and indeed, a gerund). It sounds like something straight out of ‘Idiocracy’.

Goody likes to say it. ??

It's just a little bugbear of mine, along with people that write would of instead of would've or draw when they mean drawer. I think our sportspeople may have picked it up from their American peers. I watch Packers games when I can and many of the pre and post game interviews are peppered with the 'word'. Perhaps I should go along to this members forum just to get some clarity on the situation and find out how the club intend to address this going forward.

That was the great night where my question about player mental health after 2011 and half of 2012 was being addressed and he said they didn't need a psychologist because any player who felt upset could talk to a coach (!!!?!). I'm still upset at not asking supplementary questions to argue how stupid his point was.

What have you got planned for this time ?

I don't even want to punch on about this season, there's no point. If we're pox next year when everyone started the season fit and there are no excuses then bring the chaos.

Sorry for late reply. Come to think of it - no I never have. So why am I surprised that I never got this one. After such a season I thought we should all have received one.

Sounds like you either are not in the system or they have your email address wrong. Stop complaining and check.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
