Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It’s good that they’ve faced this front-on. I think that one of the biggest fall-outs from this year will be memberships, after having done a good job in building the numbers up. I’d say a lot of members will find it difficult to get enthused for next year, during the off-season, so kudos to the board for organising this event.

I believe it is the brain child of Gary Pert and mimics what he did at Collingwood. It would be of interest if any of our Collingwood contacts remember this being done and how often along with the format of the meeting.

Here's the 2017 invite

Questions had to be pre submitted by the looks of things:

"You can also submit a question or topic you'd like discussed on the night. The club will endeavour to address all relevant questions."

So no then, stay hidden behind the safety of your keyboard

This is your big chance, you have been spouting on here for eons that you have a much better handle than the Chairman,  CEO, Head of Footy, Coach et al

Let's see you there raising the issues

I actually talk the players about other things besides footy, although I do get withdrawal symptoms during the off season......have taken to standing naked outside my apartment and howling in the direction of Goschs

You would be surprised what you get told when you can be trusted to keep it to yourself and not put it all over a forum

ZZZzzzzzzz

Linear growth, what a meaningless measure of success if you do not win a flag.

With 18 teams and a 8 in 18 chance on average of making the finals each year every Club should make the finals 4 in 9 years. We are at 1 out of 9 and I do not wish to go back longer than that. it is a cop out for the Club to just talk re-each new coach/Admin regime and to only apply the time of their tenure. We are a Club, not the pert regime, Jackson regime and so on.

So the AGM is separate? Why wouldn't you just do them at the same time, the anguished questions from the floor (that never turn into the punch up we all want) are the only thing worth going to the AGM for.

I tend to agree

I dont really understand this forum. It smacks of a circus sideshow. Actually  it reminds me more of a LXRA community  consultation process.

The genuine questions can be addressed  atcan AGM.

This sounds more to me upon reflection as a method to take the heat out of things. ..bit like the Paris accord...all sounds nicey nicey. ..all gets things off chests...nothing though is biding...and members go home feeling sated and listened to.. The reality is neither happen

Sounds like lip service to tell the truth.

The club is already on the front foot...the clever ones will realise how.

Interesting  off season ahead.

A simple stat that so many don't get.

This club is seriously underperforming the mean.

I assume you both realise that not every team starts from the same position at the beginning of each year? We had a VFL team in 2012/13. Matt Jones and Dean Terlich both finished top 5 in our B&F FFS. We've had to completely build the list up again from scratch. We probably should've made finals in 2017 but weren't a real flag threat. We should've made finals in 2019. Other than that we've performed at or above expectations.

We won't know until next year whether we have underperformed or not. All things being equal we should be aiming at a top 4 finish internally in 2020. Of course the aim is a premiership but the correlating aim is continual top 4 finishes giving you an opportunity to win a flag. Which is exactly what Pert and Bartlett (and Jackson before them) have indicated in their "5-7 years" comment.

I assume you realise when I said a nine year time frame should average four finals appearances I meant nine years. We have had one appearance in those nine years. Please do not make me go back further.

Spot on doc. We were close to folding as a club when Jimmy saved us. And after the neeld era we may have been a little bit better financially (just) but our playing list was a shambles.

It  takes sustained sucess over say 10-15 years to build really strong depth. It is one reason clubs like swans, cats, hawaks and eagles can stay up the top. And coversely why it is so hard to rise up the ladder.

We dont really start from the same position...it's  more akin to a Stawell Gift only the handicappers have forgotten to apply the handicaps.

Anyone  thinking some arent better off are kidding themselves.

I went to the post-186 AGM and the mid-2012 Members Information Session with Neeld and both times the audience (myself included) squibbed the opportunity to verbally punch on. I'm not nearly as upset about this season as many of the people on here but tempted to go just to see if we can finally get a stand-up argument between a fan and a club official.

Received the Following email from the club signed by Gary Pert and Glen Bartlett:

To our members,

We’d like to firstly take a moment to thank you.

Thank you for getting on board in what was a record-breaking year for our club’s membership. We reached 52,446 members for the first time in our history; an incredible show of support from our fans.

Thank you for standing with us, and for sticking by us. We know this season has been bitterly disappointing for us all; it’s hard to write this letter and ignore the fact we finished 17th on the AFL ladder, as it’s obviously nowhere near where we wanted to be.

Coming into this season, we knew we would need to improve just to make the finals again. However, this is a brutal competition and we clearly fell short of our own expectations.

But success is not a straight line. We have had five years of growth and whilst this year has been disappointing, the pain we have all felt will drive us forward into 2020.

We have always said that this is not just about one season. Our focus is to build a team that will consistently feature in September over the next five to seven years, and challenge for a Premiership.

It has taken a lot of work to get to this point, but there’s a significant amount still to do. In saying that, the belief in the football club is as strong as ever. We have complete faith in our players and football department leaders and know that together, we will find the required improvement. Yes, 2019 has been a major bump in the road, but not one that is going to take us off course.

The most important thing for us now, is what learnings we have taken from 2019 and what actions we are going to take to address our issues. There are some harsh lessons for us all, and we are under no illusion that every area of our club needs to find improvement.

This process has already begun. We did not wait until the end of the season to start making change, having restructured our coaching and fitness department mid-season. Since then, we have also appointed some key personnel in Darren Burgess and Alan Richardson, who will be incredibly important for us going forward. Further changes will be announced in the near future.

We are a member-based club, and for that reason we will have a Post-Season Member Forum every year. The forum will focus solely on on-field performance and the elements that drive our football program. This year it will allow members to hear from the leaders of the club about the specific dynamics that affected our performance in 2019. Members will hear our learnings and our planned response to ensure continual improvement. The forum will also give you as a member, the opportunity to ask questions about our performance in 2019 and our plans for 2020.

The details of this year's Post-Season Member Forum are:

Date: Tuesday 19th November 2019
Time: 6:00pm arrival and registration, for a 6:30pm start
Location: MCC Members Dining Room, Level 2, Gate 2, MCG.
Entry: Your valid 2019 or 2020 Melbourne Football Club membership card is required for entry.

Please register your attendance (Valid 2019 or 2020 Melbourne Football Club membership card required for entry) via this link: https://melbourne2.snapforms.com.au/form/2019-members-forum

As a valued Melbourne Football Club member, you are a critical part of the growth of this club. Your support during the good times, and not so good times, means everything to the Club. For this reason, we would like to formally invite you to attend the forum and hope you can make the time.

Thank you for being part of our journey in 2019, and for your ongoing support. Please rest assured, that we will continue to do everything possible to create a club that you feel proud to belong to.

We hope to see you on Tuesday 19th November.

That was the great night where my question about player mental health after 2011 and half of 2012 was being addressed and he said they didn't need a psychologist because any player who felt upset could talk to a coach (!!!?!). I'm still upset at not asking supplementary questions to argue how stupid his point was.

I assume the email was sent to every current member as long as the email address the club has on file is valid and active.

They also posted the letter on their social media accounts.

It is but not a very good one, it is a gerund a noun made out of a verb. It is part of "corporate speak" which signals that [censored] (uncensred -  bovine excrement) is to follow. The letter was a very good example with a sweetener thanking us, a vague admission of guilt and then the fog drifts in, with no clear defined remedies.

"What we have learnt" would be far better because it is direct and wouldn't have sounded like a spiv selling the Sydney Harbour Bridge

Disappointingly, it is recognised as a legitimate word (and indeed, a gerund). It sounds like something straight out of ‘Idiocracy’.

Goody likes to say it. ??

Holy cow. Are looking for a tattoo on your forehead?

And do you really think in 2017 we "probably" should have made finals? When we had to beat Collingwood in the last round (who were 13th) and yet we couldn't even lay a tackle inside the first 15 minutes.

I'm renaming you Neville Chamberlain, the appeaser.

And when you exhort people to have "faith" the evidence would strongly suggest that it is somewhat futile. We won 5 games this year, 3 under 1 goal! What are you pinning your faith on exactly?

Already asked a couple of questions before season end, but would not put reply on here, because I asked the question

Will wait with interest to see how many from here actually have the kahunas to stand up and ask a question, if past AGM are anything to go by, not many

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
