Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Good luck Frosty and I’m annoyed we are letting u go.

On a positive note u will prob play more finals than us and will win a premiership before us too

Geez when the hawks want a player they generally get him. They seem to have a really good recruiting department and they  also seem to have elite medical staff too given what they have done with some injured players (with Patton on the way as well)

Then there is us  and that’s why we are where we are and the the hawks are successful.

Second half of our year was all about trying to find stability and be a bit more measured, so to me it seems the writing is on the wall about next year's game plan given Frost is on the outer and (IMO) replaced by Tomlinson. Our back half had no trust in each other this year, I'm not blaming Frost for that of course, but his style of play doesn't lend itself to predictability.

Sorry to lose him, always had a soft spot for him and loved his good bits, but I can understand the decision if things pan out similar to what's mentioned above.

This coming from someone who thinks Frost is leaving because he has little feelings hurt by May.

Melbourne supporters actually make me laugh

Well, actually I was just positing an idea that his on-field altercation with another player -an altercation that had a couple of articles written about it, mind you - might have played a role in the whole story. Not suggesting it was the principal cause by any stretch. Also I’m just sitting here, pondering a fairly insignificant-in-the-scheme-of-things story about a player in a team I support, and just generally passing the time.

I guess that’s cause for laughter?

Reckon we'll try and model our game style on most good teams. Predictability and slow/measured play from the back. Chaos in the forward 50.

Yes Steve what value should MFC put on resilience, the ability to get on the park for a club that year on year carries 10 plus on the injured/rehab list for as long as I can remember.

It’s a very valid question, Earl.

If May, Lever, Jetta and to a lesser extent Hibberd all have injury affected years once again we could be Swiss cheese down back all over again.

Sad to see him go but with four other key defenders vying for a spot not surprised he may be going. What irks me is that  he was one of few improvers this season. I just hope all the others just had an off season.

My biggest issue with this is that he's going to the Hawks.  [censored] the Hawks.  They refuse to release an assistant who by all reports was desperate to come to us.  They took our one and only AA-quality player when we were the worst side in the league.  $cully plays there.  I'd rather send him to Collingwood.

It's about system. If Buckley can do it, we can too. Down goes a troop, up steps another. Zone defence and assured, predictable play based on hard running and work rate.

Can’t stop thinking about that flare-up between him and May at the GABBA. I wonder if he decided to leave then n’ there.

May have been the other way round.  His complete refusal to follow team rules was so clear that May told him off.  Then he got all stroppy about it.  Would have been a signal to the coaches box that it was Frosty before team rules.  Not a good look.  Not when the player who wins best young player at the Bluey is his immediate replacement.

He would know at MFC he is third in line, and has limited upside.  Can’t really play any other position.  At the hawks, he is a potential cover and replacement for Frawley, and allows Sicily to go back to being an intercept rather than a man on man defender.

Lets get value from the trade (third rounder, second if we are lucky) and move on quickly.  Frosty has been absolutely spitted on this site for years, had a few good games when we had no one else, and now its time to go.  Thanks and farewell.  May you bring your intense lack of team first and desire to be the roadrunner to stuff up every time you play us in future.

Chaos in our forward line already exists.  Everyone panics and we choke in front of goal

Utter chaos I'd call it.

Not that it matters now but Frost should have been under instruction with us to run with the ball and then roost it deep into the pockets (Collingwood style) A better percentage play given his skill set.

The long ball should still exist for low skilled teams like ourselves anyway.  For all the effort we go to in trying to retain possession,  we may as well just roost it long for metres gained.  But not always of course.

Clarkson won't have Frost dinking the ball off with short kicks or handpassing it off whilst running at top pace.  He'll know how to use him.

Richmond do the same with a few of their players.  Except they've got 3 fabulous targets (Lynch,  Reiwoldt,  Martin)  that can mark a long ball in.

For sure. I guess I could’ve said “I wonder if that flare-up was the catalyst for a decision”. And yes, that decision may very well have been the club’s, not his.

With the quartet I mentioned out of the team, I very much doubt we have the skill nor composure and particularly not the depth to benefit from any rigid system of play.

Maybe but Collingwood had some pretty ordinary players filling in down back for them that got them to a Grand Final. If the system is solid, AFL level footballers should be able to play to it.

But Collingwood kick well to position where as we don't.  Their system works because of their collective skill set.

We on the other hand have system breakdowns all over the field because our blokes can't kick to position.  That's why we lose.

The Hawks gave up Ryan Burton for Wingard, now looking to trade for Frost... I would have stayed with Burton.

Frosty off to his third club, he’s fun to watch and gives his all but I’d be surprised if he had too much improvement in him, especially from a ability to use the ball under pressure.

I will miss him and his speed.

No. Their players work hard to position, making the kicking easier.

What us the stuff about needing frost's speed?

Again, we dont need quick key defenders. We need quick, skilled mids and forwards.

Everyone is raving about Richmond. Riddle me this - who is their super fast key defender? Or for that matter any other super fast key defender from ine if tbe four preliminary final team?

We are still a rubbish outfit with him gone.  Unless there is an influx of real talent and lots of it.

How many highly skilled players do we actually have?  Most of them turn the ball over at some stage during the games and a number of them do it multiple times.  So it isn't just Frost.  The problem will remain once he's gone.

There's your context rjay.  I reckon he's been badly handled and poorly coached.  But again,  that appraisal could apply to a number of our other players.

And the players don't help their own cause by not helping themselves.  Self improvement doesn't really exist at the Demons.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
