Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Todd Viney Leaving Confirmed

I reckon Todd Viney is a legend, and I absolutely appreciate his involvement with, and effectively his life-long commitment, to this club.

We need more of his type, not less. Strong clubs love these types. In this context, I can’t believe some of the comments and criticisms of him here - they’re genuinely pathetic.

I hope Todd gets to enjoy a beer on the farm each weekend next year watching this club return to finals action, purely as a supporter without the pressures of his (now) former role.

100% Agree Ron.

Todd bled red and blue for the MFC and has always come across as having a great team first attitude in the way he wend about his business both on and off the field, as does his son Jack.

If the timing was right for both Todd and the MFC to part ways to start the next chapters, then well and good, but any true Demons supporter should be celebrating and expressing gratitude for his contributions.

Any MFC people here expressing criticism at this time should be made to stand in the path of a charging Todd Viney hip and shoulder.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that Viney and Rawlings leaving on their 'own terms' is just coincidence given the season we've had.

The old  saying "when you're on a good thing" also applies when you "feel" you aren't Steve.  It's no different at any professional club or workplace really.

People get attracted to success in sport, or even the smell of it, like bears to a honey pot.  The converse can also be true.

And it goes without saying that people often do things and make decisions for particular "said" reasons that are a fair way from the truth.  Diplomacy is often the path best trodden from a career POV, especially in such a constantly moving feast that is the AFL.

He has been with us for the best and not so best times of the last decade and by all accounts has been successful in the various roles he has had at the club.

Roos sang his praises on OTC the other night.  He said Todd is an excellent operator and gave him great support while our coach.  Given that Roos is a relatively independent voice I put great store in his comments on Todd.  So his replacement will have big shoes to fill.

This line was deleted: Hope, that as List Manager, he stays till the Draft (late Nov) or at least the Trade period (late Oct.) Thanks Lord Nev for correction in post below.

Regardless of how you interpret it (not replacing staff who have left (and they have) and not replacing those who've been chopped (i know of at least one) there have been cuts within MFC's admin post end of season.

Until, the last few weeks the club listed all Staff on its website under 'Club'.  It showed Football and Non-Football Staff.  It has disappeared!  The coaching staff appear under the respective groups but I can't find any other Staff info.

Maybe it will come back up after all the changes are done...

I don't think he's been list manager this year. From what I've read he's been more of a list management team member and provided general support for coaches and fitness staff.

That being said, he's not officially leaving until after the draft anyway.

Thanks.  Link now goes to 'Out of Bounds'.  I wasn't sure when it disappeared as it was a few weeks ago that I last looked.

Hopefully, it will come back when all is said and done.

Who has been our List Manager this year?

It couldn't possibly be that after nine years Todd has had enough in the job and football, and wants a complete tree change.

No, we have to conflate it with Rawlings leaving at the same time, up the ante on the conspiracy theories, speculate about rifts in the management and coaching panel, and even blame Todd for the state of the club.

Typical Demons supporters. It's not even a veil of negativity now, it's a full-on burkha.

Cutting deadweight (in incredibly harsh terms) is not the same as “cutbacks.”

People have been removed for not having the requisite skills for their post, or simply to bring in a fresh voice/perspective. Others have left of their own accord. But change is needed regardless.

Good god man.

Conspiracy theories?!

How do you think the footballing world, (media in particular) would react if the club released reports that Viney and Rawlings were encouraged to seek opportunities elsewhere because of a rift/disagreement/didn't meet the standards of the board etc etc?

We would be met with a bombardment of further negative news and unwanted attention. All giving rise to further disharmony, disconnect and pressure on the playing group, Goody and club as a whole.

Clubs have a right to protect themselves and full truths are not always told for absolutely good reason in an industry where the microscope is forever over your shoulder watching your every move.

It's absolutely fascinating that you would think such a thing is a 'conspiracy theory'. As if such scenario is so unimaginable and unfathomable to you.

I can only imagine how you reacted to the time we were caught manipulating the equalisation system. You know, that word 'tanking'. Is this current scenario more or less believable than that?

Man, if you think this is a 'conspiracy theory' and that it is complete coincidence that Rawlings and Viney have left post season on their own terms..  (on the back of one of the most embarrassing season we've dished up, a year after making a prelim, with other assistants already out the door, after the club mooting there'd be major change)...

.. Then it must be quite a cosy bubble you live in.

You just don’t see the big picture do you...

It frightens you.

2019 was a complete F$&@ up and significant change must occur.

More will be happening, so put your seat belt on and take your medication

I think Tim Lamb was looking after the TPP/List???

Thanks.

Below is the club's staffing under 'List Management'.  Your description and the second part of the Lamb role, below, sounds a like the admin side of list management.

I was looking for the person in the more traditional role of 'List Manager' (if it isn't Viney as @Lord Nevhas suggested) that has primary responsibility for setting the medium and long term strategy/needs for the list, against which trades and draft are evaluated.

They haven't updated the list online for a fair while last time I looked. There's some info in this article:

"Viney’s role changed for 2019. He provided support for coaches, fitness staff and remained a key plank in the list management team. He was previously the manager of player personnel and was interim coach after Dean Bailey was sacked in 2011 for five games."

Hmmm...I'm in the camp of "a camel is a horse designed by committee", so would still like to know who our List Manager is, if we have won.  Otherwise, who is driving the list strategy?  Coach.  Recruiters. GM Football. CEO.

Many on DL have commented on the imbalance of our list and lack of certain types and that can easily happen if there is a 'committee' or 'team' approach without one person having clear authority with a clear direction.

I'll ask DL's if anyone knows who the List Manager is.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
