Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Worse than 1997 and 1999, about onpar with 2003, but not anywhere near as bad as 2008, 2009, second half of 2012, 2013 or 2014.

Given the high expectations on the club, I would say only season 2013 was worse (and less enjoyable) than 2019.

At least in 1999, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2014 we knew we were crap.

I think this is the example which shows there was NO conflict of interest. It is well known that Jack and Ollie were great mates, yet the decision was to recruit Toumpas who was disappointing.

So you agree with me.

Good point Red.

Though we weren't forced to take the Toump. Who was next on the draft list?

Ironic that the Toump also ended up at Port (and ended at Port).

I know you can stuff up picks, but surely a club should get a top 5 pick right.

Imagine if we drafted a Bontempelli type at that pick how much better we would be.

Well I beg to differ here, Conspiracy theorists and Im one reckon there could have been an  elephant in the room because one may just have tipped the other out of the side. I would have Ollie Wines anyday of the week over JV! AND over Jimmy Toumpas as well as I said often enough at the time of this draft!

Funny film ?.

It had it's moments Mr Leg.  Neilson always pretty good value.  Some might say the easiest role of all but i thought Hagerty played her part superbly as well.

Viney's new wide-ranging duties will see him provide support for Melbourne's fitness, recruiting and coaching staff, while still being an authoritative voice on list decisions.

Melbourne's national recruiting officer, Tim Lamb, will have an increased role and take over some of Viney's former tasks, with senior coach Simon Goodwin keen to get him more involved.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-02-06/offfield-role-tweak-for-demons-great-viney

The question is what are we losing if Todd goes? And who replaces him? If Todd's been a big part of flooding the list with unskilled unfit players and neglecting skill and run then he's made some big mistakes. But if he's taken a backseat in that area and is more of a manager then maybe he's an experienced head in a young footy department.

Do we need to make changes - yes. Do I really believe there's some kind of Goodwin cabal that's been holding the club back - nope, sorry.

Pert seemed to undermine Buckley and chop and change the support staff (losing Malthouse - thankfully, losing Eade, losing Balme) and Bucks was on eggshells. I'd hate for an already nervous coach in Goodwin to end up that way. Pert leaves the Pies and suddenly there's a whole new confidence to Buckley and his players.

If Pert's working to provide new faces and support alongside Goodwin this will work out. If he's got an ego as big as his head and thinks it's clear the decks and ramp the pressure then he won't make the right changes and he'll be left holding the bill.

I have posted this before, but my son saw Cook training with us pre season and came home and said to me that he would never play for us in the Seniors. I laughed at him as he was an AA CHF . I stopped laughing very quickly.

The point of that was, how can full time recruiters get it so wrong, when an amateur can see that he wasn’t up to it in one training session. Worst of all he was our first pick .

Who chose the recruiting team Red?  That might explain it.

I'm also hopeful that we add Yze to the coaching mix as well.  While we're hoping for a few wins in terms of the players we bring in, I think our biggest change for 2020 may be what happens off the field.

These are our senior players that had uninterrupted preseasons and a good run with few injuries during the season:  Gawn, Fritsch, Salem, Frost, Lewis (?), Spargo, Hunt and ANB.  That's it.

These players either had significantly interrupted preseasons or injury interrupted seasons: May, Jones, Harmes, Petracca, Viney, Lever, Brayshaw, KK, Hibberd, Stretch, Melksham, Hannan, AVB, JKH, TMac, Weid, OMac, Hore and Jetta.

We made, against all expectations, the PF playing fantastic footy coached and managed by the group of FD staff that is now undergoing significant change.  My very strong view is that most of our issues this year were bourne out of our PS and injury status,  the names above show that.  The major change we will have next year is a fit list and a good preseason.  If we have that we can match it with anyone.

Our issues this year were not those in the FD who had proved their abilities with a reasonably fit list in the previous year. I think change is good for the club, new voices and different views,  but I suspect much of that change would have happened anyway.

Thanks to all those that stuck by us when we were awful and helped form a serious club = Macca, Misso, Craig, Todd, Jade and others I may have missed.

Yep, I agree with all of that...That's 18 of our best players hampered by injury and post 2018 season operations...

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
