Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Weagles are a protected species in Perth. Pretty much everyone in the footy community over here knew what they were doing.  But I feel that because they were winning the club administration didn't care and the AFL didn't go their job right. Unfortunately the consequences of that neglect is still be played out by the players.

Merrett and Parish being show up for the soft players they are.

Not only his kicking 'Ethan', he doesn't mind the odd short step on tonights performance...

Looks good running free with ball in hand though.

It has been that way since their inception 72.

Margetts & Daglish say hi!  Still running around unchecked.

If Gawn had Nic Nat's numbers he would not even be considered for All Australian. I'm surprised the commentators & the AFL haven't crowned Nic Nat King of the Universe.

Nic Nat was brilliant last night and set the tone for the game.

Don't underestimate what he brought to the game, the numbers don't always tell the story.

His work around the clearances is his biggest asset. Opponents need to expose him around the ground

Was there a drink thrown on Merrett during the boundary side scuffle with Nic Nat? The replay showed liquid being sprayed all over the nearest camera.

On the game itself, Nic Nat’s tackling was scary at times. Not sure how the Eagles ended up 5th, there really isn’t a weakness in that team.

Nic Nat's run down of speedster Saad was awesome!

It would be a shame if NN is suspended for shoving Merrett.  Got what he deserved.  No room for hair pulling in football - a low act.

I understand where you are coming from, and also have my worries that the key members of the Football department are yet to realise the err of their ways.

However, raising Jack Viney's time off just doesn't make sense to me. Mental health experts and Elite performance experts will all profess to the importance of 'switching off' from the workplace, regardless of whether you are an office worker or a professional athlete. This year has been a horror show, and to think that the players haven't experienced that is nonsense, as is the belief that they should be made to refrain from a break as some sort of punitive action. I understand that these players have more time off than most, but they are also dealing with a level of public scrutiny and interaction that few others experience. To not allow them an escape is setting players up for burnout after a short time in the system.

I would much prefer that anyone not required to be at the Club is away and clearing their head in order to come back fresh and ready to go, and that includes the Captains.

But how can wild card ever work?

there is no incentive to finish 7th or 8th. None at all

You are merely rewarding mediocrity

so 10 or 11 win. They play September and get thrashed.

It just cheapens a tough season

I'm still in favour of the wild card weekend despite your arguments.

Top 6 should be the new top 8 and 7th and 8th can battle it with 9th and 10th for the right to play finals.

In my opinion finishing 7th or 8th is a very mediocre achievement as was proven by Essendon last night. Hawthorn would've beaten them in the hypothetical wild card weekend and been a much tougher opponent for West Coast.

Finally, it would've made a very dull Fathers' day weekend more exciting with a couple of games with finals on the line.

I don't mind the idea of a Wild Card weekend either, but also worry about diluting the of competition in the finals.

Maybe the solution is to require a minimum no. of wins in relation to the top 4: I.e. to qualify for the Wildcard playoff, a team cannot be more than a certain win % outside of the best teams. That way, ladder position is less important, and in looking at the ladder this year, I would suggest Hawthorn and even Port would provide more of a challenge to the top teams than Essendon.

So West Coast will add Tim Kelly to their midfield of Yeo, Gaff, Shuey, Sheed, Masten, Nic Nat, Lewis.

their fwd line is the best in the league: Kennedy, Darling, Ryan, Rioli, Cripps. not to mention their defence!

if they win the flag this year - they have zero injuries so I reckon they are a chance, they would easily go 3 in a row

I've been a critic of Nic Nat over the years but he was amazing last night. inspirational

Players can have a break CS, no problem. I just don’t like seeing the Captain on the other side of the world, looking like a Clown whilst the Finals are on.

Looks very amateurish to me

Masten is depth

Kennedy almost done, there's injury issues there, struggles to get up from week to week

Nic Nat as above, great last night and is a freak, but struggles to mmaintain strings of games together. He's to big to play that position long term

I think their biggest asset is their coach

You need to take a deep breath.

He is on holiday and doesn't look a clown at all.

Gee, if he had a beer in his hand, you would probably accuse him of being a rolling drunk.

Players have lives and people need to understand that. They are not robots.

Not saying we have to always follow other team sports LH but long hair is considered part of the uniform in NFL and up for pulling LH... not sure why we can't...

..."For years, the NFL refrained from making any rules about hair. But in 2003, it enacted the “Ricky Rule,” which deemed hair part of an athlete’s uniform. This gave players the green light to grab an opponent’s hair to pull him down. The rule’s namesake, Ricky Williams, is a former NFL tailback who has the dubious distinction of being tackled by his dreads twice in one game."...

Jack Vineys entitled to go on his honeymoon now our season is over. Wouldn’t have thought the finals series being on should impact.

Was a pretty lackluster game last night. Very low intensity for a final. The tackle count was 43-42. That’s extremely low by 2019 standards. Finals series last year the average tackle count was nearly double that. Here’s hoping we get a better game tonight as the quality of matches this year has been the worst in decades.

I don’t care that Jack is not at the finals.

Why is it a bad look? I would suspect most non finals players are on their break, as mandated by the AFL.

I would be pretty sure most Bombers players will be on their break, as soon as exit interviews are completed early this week just like the loser of Giants v Dogs.

Most players need their break, unlike supporters.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
