Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Welcome to Demonland: Taj Woewodin

You would think he'll be at the Dees if drafted as it would be the best for Taj's Deevelopement.

I'm sure bygones will be bygones as past administrations are long gone.

With Taj being a Melbourne supporter he would have dreamt of playing in the Red and Blue.

If he's good enough and warrants a gig then im sure the club would be all over it.

Shane is more then happy for Taj to be drafted by Melbourne.

How does it work (not saying it's going to happen but more to understand the system) if Taj and our NGA prospect Mac Andrew are both rated in the 20s?  I.e. no one elects to take them or nominates them in the top 20.  Do we need to choose one or is it just a matter of having enough picks (points) to cover their position if another club nominates?

Expanding on @daisycutter

Taj: He can be nominated wherever and we get a 20% discount on the 'points' he costs. So if he goes pick 17 it is about 1000 points, with a 20% discount it is 800 points which can be matched with picks 25 and 51. It doesn't matter where he is nominated, we can take him.

Mac: Needs to be bid on pick 20 or lower. So lets say pick 21 (878 points - 20% discount, so 702). We would need pick say 42 and 48 to match the points.

This is where it gets harder though. We would need to have 4 list spots open to be able to have 4 picks in the draft to use the points. So we then wouldnt have a pick in the draft and have 2 list spots open for SSP (like we did with Daw and Smith). We can have more rookies etc. so it is a little easier to manipulate, but you cannot stockpile picks like teams used to.

If Taj got so good in the championships that he went number 1, we could go into deficit and pay the points with next years pick moving back in the draft based on the number of points we owed.

In short - we can have them both as long as Taj proves he is good enough to get drafted and Mac proves he is not a top 20 player. What a weird situation to be in.

I would say the recruiters have been in close contact for sure.

Taj was down in Melbourne for a week and trained with the club.

Shane has also lived in Perth and Brisbane in recent years. One as an assistant coach for Brisbane, and also doing some Academy work in Perth. I would think his time has been consumed with this.

I'm also going off what Shane said in the podcast btw.

Shane is coaching at North Freo in A Grade ammos, doing some academy work with winning edge and is one of the development coaches at Wesley College in Perth.

Interesting PSA fixture this weekend where Wesley host Aquila’s College where Taj plays

Just to keep this thread going, I've screenshot Taj Season so far stats wise.

Looking at this he obviously wins the footy well and likes to tackle. Playing midfield I believe after being moved from half back.

I am wondering though if he is trying out the for WA state squad?

Is Jahmal Stretch someone we should know about? Not a common name (and other stuff from older discussions about Steve and Billy, which used to constantly pop up in my suggested Demonland threads ).

Raw talent wise, yes.

Production and output wise, no.

I also believe we are well resourced in the small forward area now and he is no relation to Steven/Billy.

I guess it was a bit of a Stretch to think they were related.

My understanding from chatting with a part time scout for another club is that he’s rated enough to be picked up later in the draft by us as we love his attitude, professionalism, competitiveness and hardness.

His overall play/skill set is a bit vanilla and seen by other clubs as a limiting step in his potential. Seen as a HBF type.

Sounds similar to his old man…. And blokes like Hibberd who had to ply his trade in the VFL as he was seen as not having the required skills and athletic profile to succeed.

Really, Pennant. What's more important, your son's education or updating Demonlanders on Taj's progress and form ??

The question answers itself

Get on it !!!

Shane was a HBF but ND pulled a swiftly, I think at Western Oval in the 2000 preseason as a midfielder.
No idea about Taj, (other than it being a great surprise word in Word or Scrabble) but not doubt JT will make the right call one way or the other.

Congratulations to Taj on his selection but just before anyone gets carried away, Aussie Rules Draft Central’s Ed Pascoe has previewed how the West Australian team may look 2021 West Australian Under 19 squad announced and he has him down as an emergency:-

FB: Jack Avery (P) – Rhett Bazzo (SD) – Finn Gorringe (EF)

HB: Jed Hagan (EF) – Jaiden Hunter (P) – Judd McVee (EF)

C: Corey Warner (EF) – Matthew Johnson (S) – Max Chipper (SD)

HF: Ethan Regan (EP) – Jacob van Rooyen (C) – Neil Erasmus (S)

FF: Jye Amiss (EP) – Jack Williams (EF) – Jesse Motlop (SF)

FOL: Jake South (S) – Josh Browne (EF) – Kade Dittmar (EP)

INT: Zac Fleiner (WP), Kaden Harbour (EP), Brady Hough (PT), Lochlan Paton (WP), Luke Polson (PT), James Tunstill (EP)

EMG: Oscar Armstrong (EP), Eric Benning (C), Ed Curley (EF), Richard Farmer (S), Jarrod McIlvinney (PT), Angus Sheldrick (C), Jahmal Stretch (C), Bryce Watson (SD), Taj Woewodin (EF)

That said, father Shane had to make it the hard way. He was overlooked in the 1996 national draft and was picked up late in the 1997 pre-season draft at selection 18 (out of 20). He was Melbourne’s third pick in that draft with the Demons taking Albury ruckman Leigh Newton at #3 and former Magpie at #13. Woewodin won the Brownlow Medal three years later in 2000.

I should’ve added, my mate doesn’t expect any teams to bid on Taj at this stage.

I just thought I’d mention that we like some of his intangibles and think he’s a great kid. ?? he can get on our list for nothing and turn out like his old man.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
