Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A few articles popping up this morning after talk on the radio that Laird "may be available" although contracted.

At 25 he is a super star half back which could allow us to push Salem up the ground and also cover the loss of Lewis from our backline.

I would assume a first rounder would be a minimum cost to acquire him, possibly more given his contract status.

Laird would be the first player I’d take from the Crows if it was at all possible. Jetta and Hibbo aren’t getting younger and he would be perfect back there next to his old mate Lever and May for the next 5 years.

He is a 25 year old 2 X all Australian who is contacted until 2021... I really think a first rounder is this absolute starting point if we had a chance of getting him. I'd say a pick between 8-15.

Let's stay we split our first round with GWS for 11, 13 and a player (Hately, for example).

Would you trade 13 for Laird?  And end up with Pick 11, Laird (if the Crows did that deal) and Hately to go with Ed Langdon?

Understand, but for where the MFC sit currently, I'm not sure giving up a first round pick for back pocket/flanker would be the best list management call given the obvious holes we have elsewhere.

Late first round worst case if we could acquire one.

I just couldn't stomach giving up a top 15 pick for him.

Fair enough.

Having him off a half back flank would be superb though, and he has one thing we sorely lack - good foot skills.

I doubt the Crows trade him but adding someone who can hit regular targets isn't something I'd say no to (for the right price).

More pressing needs in the forward half.

I think Hibberd and Salem have plenty  more to give before rushing out and coughing up more first rounders for defenders from other clubs.

Handy player but it’s a know for me.

If we split the top pick, then trading 13 for Laird is not a bad move. All our small defenders are near the end (Jetta, Hibberd) and Laird would fill that hole and provide good dash and kicking from the back half for years to come.

Not the most pressing need, but a need none the less.

Think Laird moving all comes down to what comes out of the Adelaide review, have heard he's one who's not happy with Camporeale so if he stays Laird is more likely to go. If we split the pick with GWS then pick 15 is more than fair, in fact Adelaide will probably ask for more. He turns 26 in December, has average 30 or close too disposals over the last 4 years, been All Aust twice.

If we got him then Salem could move permanently to 1 wing, plus we'd have Langdon on the other. 1 with great speed and endurance while the other offers more precision.

Starting next year with Laird and Langdon completely transforms the ball movement within our team, plus we could still go to the draft with an early pick in an even draft.

Pick 12 for Brad Hill, pick 14 for Laird, pick 21 for Langdon ... plus big Jonno Patton.

Think how much better we’d be. We simply have to get aggressive and bounce back next season. It’s worth it.

If we end up splitting the pick with GWS I really hope we go for Brent Daniels as part of the deal.

13 for Laird would be a no brainer, would add some serious dash and rebound ability in on our half back line.

Yeah I just put Hately in there as he was the first player that came to mind.  Obviously we wouldn't get a top line player to go with those picks, but someone with potential who could fill a gap for us would be ideal.

Agree steve.

Not because he is not worth it (though I'm not convinced he is, it would have to be late first rounder).

But we are not going to give pick 2 or 3. And if we split one of those picks we need to use it to bring some young talent into the club or else we risk unbalancing our list in terms of age profile.

What are your thoughts on getting king and gc's pick 17 for our pick 2 or 3?

I'm not sure but it would give us a top young forward with some AFL games under his belt and a crack at a first rounder (note: this assumes that for whatever reason we are not taking Anderson or Rowell, either because gc get pick to as a priority pick, they get 10 as a pp but a deal has been wirh us to give them our pick 2 or we want to bring in two young talented players)

Thats exactley what i would do and we should, the Crows want to refresh their list, they would take pick 13 for him. As long as when we split the pick, we get a player from the Giants, we also need to refresh the list a bit so we need to get new faces in. I would do it in heartbeat, use pick 11 on the young fella from Norwood , Stephens, who looks a really good type and exact player we need.

We would still need a coach with a decent plan.

We could recruit Jesus H Christ and look like a spud under goodwin

I'm not surprised.  Reading his scouting report, Jesus was too soft and kind to people.  Had no mongrel in him to play AFL.  He would lay a tackle and hug them straight after.

I really think you are forgetting about the salary cap bud... Unless you plan on trading out at least two of our higher paid best 22 players there is zero chance of this happening.

You also need to use a minimum of 3 picks in the draft, do you really want us to be having to draft into the 4th/5th round taking up a senior spot?

I know we all see things differently which is great but IMO i think Hibbo and Jetta are almost done and Laird would be amazing for us.

I’d have no issue doing just that.

Re the cap, other clubs manage these types of things. There are ways.

The fact is we’ve recruited in recent years for a period of success now. We’ve got a talented midfield group that will be wanting a shot at glory in 2020 and beyond.

We are not in re-build mode.

salary cap management would be interesting; you'd think given that we're bringing langdon in then at least one mid- to premium-tier play would have to depart...or would it?

lewis was on a sticky wicket, and jones is going from of our best paid players to one of our lower of the mid-tier players; so would we have the cash to bring laird in?

pick 3 to gw$ for (what will end up probably end up, due to priority and academy selections being) pick 13 and pick 15, plus bonar

pick 13 to adelaide for laird, pick 24 to freo for langdon, future second for amon

go to the draft with 15, which is less than ideal, but bringing in laird, langdon, and amon in one off-season would be an AMAZING result

B: Jetta - May - Lever
HB: Laird - Frost - Hibberd
? Salem - Harmes - Langdon
HF: Petracca - T Mac - Melksham
F: Fritsch - Weideman - Hannan
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Jones - Brayshaw - Petty - Amon
Emerg: Preuss - Hunt - Neal-Bullen - Bonar

if kk, vandenBerg, or joel smith were ever fit i'd have probably at least two of them in the 22 ahead of jones / brayshaw, amon, and / or petty, with spargo, hunt and bonar out of the squad...

i'm VERY keen on laird and langdon being two players we bring in this off-season, while amon is a better than average acquisition too - would definitely be in our side as it stands

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
