Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Thoughts?

Massive no from me.  I don't think we need to recruit key position players unless it's someone of high quality to play alongside T Mac.  Outside run and small forwards should be our focus.

No from me, too. Outside run, small forwards, and Langton. Nice mix - after a smashing pre-season of skills, fitness and variation in the game 'plans' - and I do mean these to be plural.

I'd be backing in Weid and McDonald. and hoping for better kicks inside 50 and better forward craft. the realistic outside key forward that i would be chasing is Ben King who i think genuinely wants to come back to vic but the Suns probably won't let him go.

but if they said they'd trade him for pick 3 i'd do that for sure.

I rate this guy.  He's one of the best "down the line" marks in the comp.  Other than Gawn, since we lost Hogan we don't have anyone else who  does this role. I'd certainly look at it.

With the amount of up the line kicks and bombs inside 50 ... what a perfect fit.

Marking i50 and taking set shots sadly missing this season.  Even if his conversion stays ordinary (but not as bad as early career) it allows your mids/defenders to recover aerobically and set up the zone or press more effectively thereby improving likelihood of more repeat entries and less slinghots by the opp.

AND he doesn't necessarily need to mark everything.  Get the ball to ground for the quality smalls we are about to recruit ?

His goal kicking was much improved this year. Levi could be Earl Spalding in reverse. Is he a free agent?

Very much improved FT.  Similar age too i would think.

He only needs an average season with one decent finals campaign.  Win the premiership and who cares after that.  Could be our version of Tom Boyd.

Worth a serious look.

Its a hesitant yes from me. I'm not that interested in Levi but i'm interested in scoring and it's been the crux of how we have performed throughout the year.

We have moved around forward plans and even tried adapting a faster play style to get the ball in 'quick'  (Some memories of this years queens birthday still make me cringe). The 'get the ball to the ground' approach hasn't provided much fruit either.

Balls goes in - ball comes out. Story of our year. McDonald gets double teamed and we can't rely on Weiderman to kick a bag.

Another tall forward provides McDonald flexibility to run around and cause havoc and eases impact from injury.

Belief in winning the ball and being able to score seems to make or break the team. I don't care about Levi too much but If we don't add something to our forward line then I'm strapping myself in for another rocky year.

I'm getting it from the most recent source, which incidentally is in the OP.

It's also been explained a couple of times in posts in this thread.

Worth a read mate.

Which teams in the top 8 have a big lug of a player in the forward line who managed to play 20 games but only kick 15 goals? 1/5th of those goals were against us as well.

Casboult is the 2nd forward option, sometimes even 3rd. He's also played in defence and in the ruck.

For a comparison within your limited context, here's some of the second key forwards with similar outputs from top 8 teams:

Geelong - Ratugolea: 12 goals in 17 games.

Brisbane - McStay: 19 goals in 22 games.

Richmond - Riewoldt: 16 goals in 10 games.

Collingwood - Cox: 19 goals in 14 games.

Bulldogs - Schache: 23 goals in 13 games.

Bombers - McKernan: 17 goals in 15 games.

That's a combined average of 1.1 goals per game for those teams.

So I would say 6 teams out of the top 8 have similar output from their second key forward.

He played most of this year down back Ethan,

I'd take him on the cheap can take a grab and keeps a defender busy opening it up for Tmac and Weid

His first game down back was round 10 vs St Kilda after Jones went down with concussion. He played there until round 13 when he was moved forward again then Carlton had a bye in round 14. Round 15 he went back to defence and round 16 he played forward against us. Rounds 18, 19, 20 and 21 he played forward before Jones went down again for the last two games where he was moved back to defence.

So that’s 14 forward and 6 in defence.

He played a little more in defence than what I thought but in no way is that most of the season. By all reports, he definitely played better down back as well. As far as forward targets go, I just think we have to aim a little higher, he’ll also be 30 before the start of next season.

Fair enough. I’d prefer if we targeted him it was for the backline so May can become a swing-man and have a go up forward. The Carlton supporters I’ve spoken to think we’re crazy if we target him as a pure forward. The games he played down back this year proved he’s a better defender than forward. We’ll see what happens I suppose.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
