Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

If, by some miracle, Gold Coast don't get Pick 2 PP, than I'm dead set of the opinion that we keep it. Anderson is a player we need. And while I was more inclined to trade our pick earlier, with GWS now into the Grand Final, unless they can offer us Pick 12 and Hawks First Pick via Trade, I'm less inclined to Trade Pick 3 now.

Im with you Ash, I think its got to the point that it would be irresponsible to trade the pick even if its pick 3. At a minimum we need to retain a top 10 pick, and that's the only way i would do it.

Anderson at 2 / Young at 3. that's how i would go.

It is difficult to see a team being able to come up with enough to justify splitting pick 2.  They may be able to come up with enough to split pick 3.  GWS now are compromised by their high finish - the mid-teen pick is approaching pick 20 with academy selections, F/S opportunities.  So is not much better than a second rounder.  They (or someone else) is going to have to go hard to have enough currency.  It could be someone like Geelong after they finish dealing trading Kelly.  GCS could also be a factor with Martin on the way to the blues - if they dont get pick 2, then maybe they trade up to it to ensure they get the dream pair of Rowell and Anderson to stay together?

The only other option is for future picks, but this has a risk based in unknown ladder position.

I'm glad we didn't trade our first-round pick last year, thinking it might be about pick #15-18. ☺️

Good point.

That said, we could probably get a lot for next years first round pick.

Let's get in on this, @Macca. Who do we go for? Trade pick 2 or 3 this year and next year's first rounder.

Wasn’t the AFL Commission making its decision on the GC PP today?

Who knows. They'll probably keep it all hush hush up until the draft, Jason Taylor will be all set to announce the #2 draft pick, then Gil will butt in with "selection 2.........Gold Coast"

I read Knightmare say in his phantom draft, that he wouldn’t trade pick 3 for anything less than 2 picks within the top 8. He said pick 2 was (obviously) worth more, can’t remember exactly what he said though, he did say it should be 3 picks though (maybe an early 2nd as the 3rd pick). That’s as best I can remember off the top of my head. Can’t see anyone coughing up picks like that for our 2/3

Trade 'em all !

Not being serious

I'd start off by trading out those with currency who are surplus to needs or those who might be expendable.  And sometimes you have to make some very tough decisions in order to get what you want (or need)

But I might want to draft a player in the region of picks 11 - 16*  If our recruiting staff know their oats we might be able to unearth a gem in that draft area.  No pressure on the kid either.  Expectations tempered.  No messiah mentality

But trade the other picks (bundled up if necessary) for quality players ... and we should have any number of players lined up.  In the player managers ears with no let up.  Persevere.

And even with that 11 - 16 pick I'm still primarily trading for talent.  We can round it off with a couple of speculation 3rd round picks.  Plus a couple of RFA's (Tomlinson & Elliot?)  Maybe even 3 RFA's?

*With the accumulative trades,  we can find ourselves with a pick in that area (11 - 16)

We need to add talent and depth to our midfield like Brisbane did with Neale and Lyons in the one off season.

I'd trade our pick 3 and future first rounder for Matt Crouch and Brad Crouch. Matt is exactly the sort of player we need. Accumulator, good foot skills, good decision maker and may want out of AFC after their season. Perfect age bracket (24 years old). Brad's out of contract next year and like his brother (both Victorians), would provide immediate ball extraction and add depth to our midfield.

Langdon and Tomlinson on the wings. Oliver, Brayshaw, Brad Crouch / Matt Crouch with Petracca, Viney and Harmes is starting to get places.

Discuss.

We certainly need to add some ready-to-go talent to the 22.  Any number of very average players were getting game time this season and it reminded me of the Neeld years.

Oddly enough,  I thought we were building a terrific list before that ill-fated prelim final loss against West Coast.  We got exposed and we haven't recovered.

We went from having 12 - 15 good to very good players to less than 10 in an instant.  As previously stated,  we are now just a good team on paper AF.  Reality bites.

In terms of adding talent our best year in recent times was 2014 when we added Brayshaw,  Petracca & Harmes.  An ok player in Frost as well but he looks like he is on the move.

Time for that do-over.  And let's see if we can add 5 or 6 best 22 players (from the get-go)

Matt Crouch is the last player we need! He's a decent extractor and excellent accumulator but either handballs or chips the ball short, very low metres per possession and low impact. Plus slow to defend, both at the contest - 3.4 tackles per game is awful and around the ground. Why did the Crows midfield struggle so badly this year - because of the Crouch's being not very good.

We're already struggling to fit Viney, Oliver and Brayshaw in the one midfield, we don't need to add Matt Crouch!

Brad has a bit more juice with taking the game on and providing burst around the stoppages, but his skills are more up and down and injuries have possibly robbed him of going to that next level with improved skills and consistency in his game. He's going to cost a lot and require shifting one of our centre square players out of the side or probably out of the club. 700k and a top 10 pick for him. I can't see it.

Petracca needs to become a genuine midfielder and Viney/Oliver/Brayshaw need to get back to their best. Otherwise we should be looking for guys who can play on the wings or flanks and then rotate in to the midfield not the other way around. A Shane Edwards style outside-in mid is what we need. Someone to feed off the handballs that Viney and Oliver will dish out.

Agree that Petracca needs to become a genuine midfielder and that we need a Shane Edwards-type, but who is that?

Not an easy one to find, someone with the smarts, skills and speed/agility to mix it with the big boys and contribute around the ground. Melksham in to the midfield as well is an option.

This might be too bold or premature but if we're looking for tackling and agility to compliment Gus/Clarry/Viney then I'd love to see Kade Chandler given some midfield minutes. He's a keen tackler with good evasive skills and creativity. Played as a midfielder as a junior and some of his best higlights come around the packs. He could do a little of what Parfitt has done for the Cats providing some defensive pressure

lol I thought the person that said matt crouch was joking. yikes, he was serious.

he is literally the exact opposite of what we need. Slow, inside mid. ffs, have you not seen us play?

I'm surprised we didnt chase papley. he is exactly what we need.

So back on topic if we are stuck with pick 3, then the Giants have picks 12 and 18 or 19. That's not enough to do a deal IMO. I think we'd ask them to get future picks or players involved to bump that pick 18 up at least to pick 10.

The Giants run of finals success has hurt the chances of splitting the pick.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
