Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Honestly leaking this is just a way to soften us up for losing pick 2.

I'd trade pick 3 for a couple of quality first rounders but they better be good.

The Kelly for Salem-Tyson trade was a balls up because we didn't get near enough value. If it was Billings for Salem at 2-9 that's fine but we had to give 20 for Tyson as well and only got a late pick back. When we traded out pick 2 we should've got a fortune for it.

The same applies now for pick 3. If a team isn't willing to give us 2 top 10 picks then forget about it.

If we could somehow get Ash and Flanders for what would have been pick 3 i think that'd be a fantastic result.

Ash in particular has a lot of the attributes we need and i really rate Flanders as a player. reminds me a bit of Jack Steven, powerful midfielder with a serious burst of speed.

Ash, Flanders, Langdon, Amon, Newnes via F/A into the club and suddenly our midfield has a much better balance to it and great depth

Why not. Worked so well last time. #facepalm

I'd agree if the conversation was around trading a pick that could land us Noah Anderson.

but i don't think there is a clear drop off after the top 2 in this draft and not a huge cap from about 3-15

Rowell and Anderson are 100% GC bound. Green will be snapped up by GWS as an academy selection. That's the likely top 3 IMO and we're no chance at getting any of them, so I don't mind the possibility of trading the pick. Wonder if we'd be looking at either North or Port's first two picks as a swap, meaning we can trade our second rounder for Langdon and still have first and second round picks?

No...

one will go to GC and one will go to a power club who will trade a 28 year old to GC and get salary cap relief at the same time.

You have to love this game.

Nah, lock it in mate, both are off to GC.

perhaps but as an aside and following the logic on this thread why wouldn't you split them for two more etc etc

Brings back memories of Sylvia and McLean not to mention the dynamic duo of Scully and Trengrove

If they do, and I reckon it's a big if, I reckon it would be because as I mentioned above the first 3 are already locked away, we might be looking at Serong or someone else for a specific need and be happy to slide a little bit given it means we keep a second pick despite trading one for Langdon. If that makes sense?

Edit - Wait, were you meaning GC's picks? Sorry, bit confused....

Coniglio has just re-signed on massive $.  GWS have to be stretched to the limit of their salary cap now.  Whitfield is a restricted free agent end of next year.  They wont get anywhere near pick 2/3 as compensation if he left. We will never be in a better position to have a real go at the exact requirement of our team. We have to explore this possibility to the hilt.

restricted free agency does not involve compo picks.

It gives GWS the right to match any offer made by another club.

The idea is good but Whitfield will have the pick of the comp if he wants to leave

yep... in the sense that four is better than two and then trade their high second round pick for a player

Haha yeah I guess you could take the 'logic' to that extreme if you wanted to. But the context comes in to play, and you wouldn't see it when someone has picks 1 and 2, especially when they're clear ahead of everyone else and are best mates.

I'm warming to the idea of splitting the pick. Our list has that many glaring holes in it, a highly talented U18 player won't help, especially in their first 1-2 years. Look at what Lukosious, Rankine & King did from picks 2-4 this year..jack s$#t.

With picks 13 & 17 hypothetically instead, we can trade one or both in for talent that can make an impact, and possibly still get a 1st round draft pick.

Oh OK, but the fact remains he could leave then and from a GWS perspective they can get a guaranteed 2/3 pick and salary cap relief now. Of course we have to convince Lachie but....

Well GCS are a very weak team. On the other hand Port bought in three first year draftee, Rozee, Duursma & Butters  who played 22, 20 &19 games respectively. This is an excellent return on an investment in youth. One would hope with the core group of MFC regulars high draft picks could flourish with us

Stuff that.

Get Young with pick 3 & Langdon swapped for pick 20.

FFS if you're relying on him/her to provide any valuable input don't hold your breath.

This is the same poster who wanted us to use pick #2 on Liam Henry

You really think if we had a pick in the teens from the split Freo wouldn’t bend Mahoney over for it like they did last year?

Also Liam Henry is exactly the type of player we need, a small forward who kicks goals and pressures, right now Jones is our leading goal-kicker at the club after Garlett is now gone. An AA small forward who is part of another clubs academy will cost us. As will Langdon if we split.

If you go back to the Oliver thread, I got shot down for suggesting we take him at pick 4, when Carlton were looking at him around pick 12-13. Look how that turned out, but yeah that doesn’t suit your narrative.

Anyway continue pot shotting and insulting those whose opinions you don’t agree with over the internet, must make you feel tough mate.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
