Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The calumny of the AFL's priority pick policy

SWYL I agree they need mature players which is why I think picks 1 and 2 provide good currency to trade with. They could potentially turn those two pics into 3-4 A grade players that could provide some leadership. Older sides like Hawthorn, Adelaide, West Coast and Collingwood for example would consider moving on a 24-26 year old or two to get some young talent in and relieve salary cap pressure.

and so they take a mature player that a big power club or a GWS can afford to move on and the power club gets salary cap relief and a chance to refresh at the pointy end of the draft. Is it any wonder the power clubs dominate.

Worked out great sacrificing Kelly for Salem and two blokes that aren't even at the club anymore.

made this point on the trading thread. Over there they seem to think splitting the pick is the smart thing. I think its the dumb conservative move.

I wish people would stop calling other clubs power clubs. Why is MFC not a “power” club? We should be but we won’t be as long as this attitude prevails: that MFC is full of weak, gutless loser gentle players and an administration that has no idea and doesn’t have any pride. Where is our home? Where are our facilities? Where is their heart?

okay... who is our 27-28 year old player who is paid very well that we could move on in such a trade.

Essendon have Hurley for example and I am sure we can go through each of the power clubs and list similar players.

Even our magnificent crop of youngsters...Oliver Brayshaw and Petracca are being questioned. Last years draft does not look like world beaters. May and Lever are well they're May and Lever and one could go on.

2020 is a BIG year.

This is a shallOw draft. If we move outside of the top 6 we are absolutely bonkers. Let me guess, some bolter inside mid that no one had heard of a month ago is currently in our sights?

All these AFL.com articles are foreshadowing GC getting pick 1 PP, talking about a PP as if that before R1 PP were the only option rather than something more reasonable like an end of R1 PP, like the lions got when they were rubbish. Look at where they are now with a decent coach. Ditch that fat [censored] Dew.

Remember this is just the start...

The CEO of GCS was interviewed on this subject mid year and he was saying they needed systemic preferential treatment. Priority picks and then salary cap relief (think COLA) so they can keep their players. Given that its AFL money which pays the salaries this is so ironic.

Plus they have asked for NT to be their exclusive zone/academy.

Dew's coaching them very well. They are just super young and super injured, neither of which is his fault. But yes, as long as they stop leaking players like crazy they'll bounce back. The thing is they have way more talent than when Melbourne or Carlton were bad.

In 2 years a team that has: Bowes, Ainsworth, Fiorini, Brodie, Ballard, Miller, Weller, Powell, Wright, Ben King, Rankine, Lukosius and pick 1 will be incredibly well placed. That's 13 players taken in the top 25 or so draft picks.

When Roos took over we had Hogan, Viney, Nath Jones and not a lot more.

Angus will become a very very good player, I don't want to see that in an opposition jumper.

My mail is really strong that the Suns will not trade any of Pick 1 & 2 and that both Rowell and Anderson want to be drafted together, great mates and more than happy to go to the Suns. The AFL see this as the Brisbane model and a way of genuinely keeping them together at the Suns.

So its pick 3 and we take the best skilled player available the one who is the best kick, probably Young from all reports. The next thing to look at is to see how we can get another top 10 pick.  And i genuinely think this will revolve around Brayshaw. he is currently our most expendable top end talent worthy of trade bait. I believe in the coming days we will hear this to be true and that Brayshaw will very much be  on the table to the likes of Freo, and also St Kilda.

I think it would be a massive mistake to trade Brayshaw.  I can understand why he is expendable when he plays both an outside and inside role.

Why do they need 2 top 10 picks?  We have pick 2 or 3 and a Brayshaw is a top 10 pick himself.

They would want to be landing a big fish rather than just getting in kids.

Yes it's a bit unfair but I can't believe it's gotten to the point we're upset we're getting pick 3 instead of pick 2. Those days should be well and truly behind us.

The days of relying for help from the AFL (ie. getting pick 3 as compo for losing Frawley) should be well and truly behind us.

Yeah they should be behind us, but if you have a good look at our list and lack of deapth, we need every pick we can get and we cant afford to stuff them up or there will be several teams we wont catch for another ten years.

Same deal.

Wasn’t a genuine suggestion... BUT GC do need players who actually want to live in Qld. Miserable if they’re all homesick. They have culture problems more than talent problems.

The Wagner boys are good footballers, at their ‘peak’ and well liked guys. They’d be a good addition to the GC squad.

So more seriously, both Wagners plus 2020 first round for King?

They surely don’t need another 2019 draft pick, and no high level player is going to GC.

What will St Kilda offer that’s better?

I don't mind trading down for 2 picks, still some good players available who I have seen and been impressed with

Jeremy Sharp good run and carry player who uses the ball well could be played off a HBF

Elijah Taylor small/medium forward who IMO is better than Liam Henry with more upside

Fair enough. Super young super injured, super talented are all reasons we were knocked back a few years ago for a PP when our record was far worse than GC's. Double standards, but that's the AFL I 'spose.

So dees supporters who think we are entitled to pick 2 should hang their heads in shame.

We’re entitled to pick 2 because we finished second last. Would I prefer we actually did what most of us here expected to do and back up last year with finals? Of course.

But the team that finishes second last gets pick 2.

Gold Coast getting another top 2 pick isn’t surprising but it’s not going to solve the issue. They should’ve instead been given multiple additional picks lower down (say top 20-30) that they’d have to trade and go after senior players that can help build something there.

They are a rudderless ship and to send another top two draft prospect there not going to fix their larger issues.

and this is more or less why i'm not concerned about them getting two high picks

it's not going to change any of the underlying issues

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
