Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lol @praha

You're just posting whatever suits your doomsday, hyperbolic, OTT negative outlook.

No Brisbane in the frame = we can't prise him out of Collingwood. Then Brisbane show up = Brisbane has "gone past us".

If we were Brisbane you'd be critical of our 0-2 straight sets home finals exit. You'd note that we had no injuries all year (which probabilities suggest won't happen again in 2020), and you'd note that our fixture only had one repeat game against the top 8 and in our 9-game winning streak we only beat two top 8 sides, one of which was a faltering Geelong by 1 point.

Brisbane looked good this year. We looked just as good last year. Both young, both taken ages to make finals.

Never mind the inaccuracy of calling Tomlinson a Frost replacement (by the way, if the media reports are true we'll be paying Tomlinson less than what Frost wants, and we get a draft pick out of trading Frost with no pick needed to get Tomlinson).

The first post strengthens the argument of the second.

1. I don't think he'll be leaving Collingwood.

2. If he does and he choose Brisbane over us, it's an indictment.

How hard is that to read? Way to build your own narrative for a few forum likes. Didn't take you for a Gestapo lapdog.

Says the poster who's developed a "doom spiral" narrative and takes every opportunity/topic to repeat it.

I just can't stand the way any piece of news is, for you, another example of the club being on its knees. Maybe you've just gone off a cliff in terms of your optimism/confidence in the club, and whilst that's understandable I find your arguments at times to be anything other than convincing.

Yep it really isn’t. Let’s not forget he’s not leaving a basket-case, he’s leaving Collingwood, the second biggest club in the land. He’s leaving for the club that offered him the best contract in terms of length and money. No indictment at all.

I'll try and avoid being a smart [censored].

But in my opinion it is a completely ridiculous assertion that if Elliot cthose lions over us it is in any way an indictment on us.

Elliott is a RFA so Collingwood have the right to march a rivals offer and retain Elliott. There’s reports that Collingwood have increased their offer, are these perhaps incorrect given the above or are they attempting to get Elliott to re-sign before he accepts a rival teams contract?

Yes titan, I have. Great clubs don't lose the battles we lose. It's as simple as that. Very happy to be proven wrong by yourself and others. I mean that. Go back if you can be bothered and see my posts after our round 1 loss to Port. I was very much in battle with the likes of SWYL and a few others who constantly belittled the club at the time. This year has completely broken me. It arguably started after our loss to Hawthorn in round 4-5 2018 but 2019 was a huge burn for me and this club. I'm sorry but the burden of expectation and proof and risen for me now.

Apologies I should have said Nixon’s report. I suppose my point was that I don’t believe Collingwood would have increased their offer as they know Elliott is exploring his rights as a free agent.. Surely they’d hold off and see what offer he accepts then match it if they want to. Therefore I don’t believe Collingwood have increased their offer.

Not necessarily. Ideally Elliott wants to stay a Pie. Say the sticking point is just the 2 to 3 years. Collingwood might offer 3 at 500k per year and hope he accepts rather than have to match 3 (and maybe option for 4) at 600K per year.

Gut feel is he would stay at Collingwood for less (per year), and word gets around in AFL circles so Pies wouldn't be in the dark about his other offers as they come in. Would think they would up their offer as part of the negotiation, knowing that as long as it's not massively less he will want to stay. Then at the very end they can match the final offer if they wish.

Sorry ET but he is unrestricted according to afl.com So pies have to join the bidding if they want him

I thought that could be the case and slightly covered off on that in my initial post.

So if an RFA announces they are going to explore free agency their current club can make them an offer anytime? I thought they had to wait and see if he accepted a rival clubs offer then match it.

Edit: Irrelevant now as grey wolf has brought to my attention Elliott is a UFA.

I think he’s gone from Pies judging by the cover of the UNO cards. I see numbers 2,3 and 4. No number 5, wild card is tricky to decipher though.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. Sunny, though a touch windy, this morning, 23 of them no emergencies.  Forwards out first. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
